As a member of the National Rifle Association of America, you know exactly how hard this organization works to maintain high firearms instruction and safety-education standards. Now, anti-gun lawmakers in some state legislatures around the country are redoubling their efforts to dismantle the Second Amendment by sponsoring legislation that removes NRA from state statutes as a recognized group to certify instructors to teach firearms safety courses. |

For the most part, gun owners know which federal agencies they need to keep an eye on. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) needs to be watched for its role in concocting new firearms regulations and its heavy-handed industry enforcement operations. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) must be monitored for its often-unsatisfactory administration of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Further, astute gun-rights supporters, including readers of this journal, know about the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) incessant desire to use tax dollars to create anti-gun propaganda. |

President Joe Biden’s proposed ban on “assault weapons” would not have prevented the Monday school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, that killed three children and three adults, experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation. Transgender shooter Audrey Hale, 28, was carrying and an AR-15 military-style rifle, a Kel-Tec SUB2000 pistol caliber carbine, and a Smith and Wesson hand gun when she attacked the Presbyterian church-affiliated Covenant School, killing six people, police said, according to CNN. President Joe Biden has since renewed his call for Congress to pass an assault weapons ban, but experts who spoke to the DCNF said such a measure would not have stopped the tragedy.

This May will be the first spring turkey hunting season in Suffolk County, as the wild turkey population here has ballooned in recent years. Turkeys had all but disappeared from Long Island in the 19th and 20th Centuries, as the lands here were cleared, first for agriculture and then for the eastward march of suburbanization.

Imagine a long line of people—men—winding down a city street. Of various race, age, background, and education, all are heeding their country’s call. After the war, they will not think themselves brave. They merely fulfilled their republican duty, that of a citizen-soldier. It is a proud American tradition rooted in the free societies of the past. The Second World War has often been called “the last good war” our country has fought. It was also the last typified by the citizen-soldier.

It seems like when many of us are young, nothing can stop us from doing what we want to do. We attack things with everything we have and have little worries. I know I was that way. Growing up I was one of the shortest in school and looked younger than my classmates. When I was 12, everyone thought I was 8. I really hated it. Now that I’m sort of all grown up, but still small in stature, I want everyone to think I’m younger than I am. Life is truly a battle sometimes.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
For, in principle, there is no difference between a law prohibiting the wearing of concealed arms, and a law forbidding the wearing such as are exposed; and if the former be unconstitutional, the latter must be so likewise. But it should not be forgotten, that it is not only a part of the right that is secured by the constitution; it is the right entire and complete, as it existed at the adoption of the constitution; and if any portion of that right be impaired, immaterial how small the part may be, and immaterial the order of time at which it be done, it is equally forbidden by the constitution. [Bliss vs. Commonwealth, 12 Ky. (2 Litt.) 90, at 92, and 93, 13 Am. Dec. 251 (1822) |
