"Paul Bucher, the district attorney for the Wisconsin county where a man opened fire in a church service last month, killing seven people and himself, has one answer to the deadly mass shootings around the country in recent weeks: more guns."

" 'The problems aren't the guns, it's the guns in the wrong hands,' said Bucher, a Republican who recently announced his candidacy for Wisconsin attorney general. 'We need to put more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens. Whether having that would have changed what happened is all speculation, but it would level the playing field. If the person you're fighting has a gun and all you have is your fists, you lose.' "

UT: Gun laws don't protect (Letter)

FULL TEXT BELOW:

I agree with Clark Aposhian's comments (“Gun laws won't protect you from someone bent on violence,” March 26) regarding guns in schools. Criminals, by definition, have little regard for the law (including gun laws). Restricting the use of firearms by law-abiding citizens has no effect on the bad guys. Gun restrictions in schools, churches and places of employment only make us defenseless against violence, and they even advertise that vulnerability.

I often wonder how many lives could have been saved at Columbine or Red Lake if adults (including teachers) with good judgment and a bit of training could carry concealed firearms on campus.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing)
