"The Second Amendment Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit against the Warren County, Illinois Housing Authority, seeking an injunction against the WCHAs ban on personally-owned firearms by residents of government-subsidized housing."
"The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Ronald G. Winbigler, a resident of Costello Terrace in Monmouth. Mr. Winbigler is a physically disabled former police officer who wants to have a handgun in his residence for personal protection. The lawsuit seeks equitable, declaratory and injunctive relief challenging the WCHA ban. It was filed in U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois, Rock Island Division." ... |

... "This is important and hardly splitting hairs. For many in the television audience, the talking heads do so with apparent authority, so if the professionals dont know enough to provide accurate reporting, how can we reasonably expect their viewers to know the difference? And if the reporters are this clueless about such basic and easily verifiable information, how can we expect they will be versed enough to report on any aspect of the gun issue, including about rights and laws, and not expect the same sloppy results?" ... |

"The New York Times has weighed in on the Trayvon Marin shooting. Unsurprisingly they are opposed to relaxed gun laws in general and Stand Your Ground (SYG) in particular. Before I start my dissection lets get one thing perfectly clear: SB436, the bill which created SYG, changed nothing in the standards for the lawful use of deadly force." ... |

"As the fifth anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre looms with an eerily bizarre coincidence to the National Rifle Associations upcoming annual convention, and just days after a campus shooting in California, and one day after two Kent Lake High School students were arrested for having a gun at school, one might ask whether laws prohibiting guns on school grounds hinders or enables school gunmen." ... |

"Like so many religious arguments (revolver vs. semi-auto, AR vs. AK vs. FAL) the concealed vs. open carry debate arouses strong feelings and passionate discourse all around. So Im going to throw that hand grenade out and see who jumps on it. There are two different imperatives driving the decision of whether or not to open carry; tactical and strategic. Now, when I say tactical Im not referring to bayonets or picatinny rails on your carry weapon but tactical in the sense of whats going on when the SHTF. And from that kind of a tactical standpoint open carry is mostly a bad thing . . ." ... |

"In my column this week at The Daily I argue that it's time to give up on a strict second amendment interpretation and allow for states and municipalities to decide on their own gun control laws. Since I grew up with guns, I'm actually sympathetic to states that want to have concealed carry laws or or that want to allow unregistered gun ownership (like former home state, New Mexico)."
"But, it makes no practical sense to me that in a country where you can have countries where alcohol can't be sold and towns where strip clubs can't be built, but that you cannot have a town or state where gun ownership is banned, even if that's what the residents want. ..." ... |

"Weve heard a lot in the last month about Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old man who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a self-appointed, gun-toting neighborhood watch captain. What we havent heard, as Markos Moulitsas recently pointed out in a tweet, are the calls from the conservative gun lobby to expand our Second Amendment rights after all, shouldnt Trayvon have been armed to protect himself?" ... |

"I dont 'get' gun-free zones. Not to go all triple negative, but forcible disarmament of a given population is no guarantee that someone who doesnt adhere to the law/security procedures wont slip through the net. But it IS a guarantee that those who abide by the law/security procedures will be unarmed in the face of a deadly assault. Hospital doctors are reasonably intelligent people whose livelihoods depend on risk analysis. They can figure that out all on their own. Meanwhile, they encounter the dregs of society on a daily basis (including wounded gang-bangers with pissed-off enemies). So theyre forgiven (by me anyway) for feeling particularly motivated to carry a concealed weapon ..." ... |

"According to The Waukee Patch, Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard is going to be challenged for his seat in the June 5 Republican primary by Jim Romar. Sheriff Leonard is a friend of the gun rights community, having been a 'shall issue' Sheriff before it was mandated statewide in 2011. Dallas County residents have spoken highly of Sheriff Leonard in regards to how he deals with holders and applicants of the Iowa Permit to Carry Weapons, and it is hard to find anyone who is dissatisfied with his overall stance on gun rights issues." ... |

"The states top court is poised to rule on Cook Countys assault weapons ban Thursday in a case that will determine the fate of one of Illinois signature gun-control laws."
"Attorneys challenging the ban argued that the countys ordinance enacted in 1993 and extended in 2006 is too vague, based on faulty information and should be reconsidered in light of the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court case that overturned Chicagos ban on handguns." ... |

"On March 8, 2012, President Barak Obama signed into law H.R. 347. While the President is often signing bills into law, this one is of significance in that it is essentially a 'gateway' law and is the fault of the Republican Party." ...
"... In a legal analysis by KrisAnne Hall of Americans United for Freedom, she states that this bill 'has nothing to do with improving landscaping around federal buildings [but] is a No Trespassing bill designed to suppress dissent against an increasingly tyrannical government.' In simple terms, this bill allows the government a wide range of discretion in deciding what is a felony in terms of a legitimate use of First Amendment rights (free speech, freedom to assemble)." ... |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by one enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom.
