Smith & Wesson slid into our best-selling handgun spot for the month of March with the M&P9, while a pair of Glocks in the G19 Gen 5 and the G43X MOS filled the number two and three spots, respectively. The G19 Gen 5 adds some notable upgrades over previous generations, while the G43X's Slimline grip and short 3.41-inch barrel make it ultra-concealable. Both are frequent flyers on this best sellers list and reliable choices for concealed carry. |

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) vetoed an assault weapons ban that passed the state Legislature last month, alongside multiple other gun control bills, in a 30-bill veto session on Tuesday.
“I swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of Virginia, and that absolutely includes protecting the right of law-abiding Virginians to keep and bear arms,” Youngkin said in a statement after vetoing the bills. |

More than 68,000 illegally trafficked firearms in the U.S. came through unlicensed dealers who aren’t required to perform background checks over a five-year period, according to new data released Thursday by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives.
That represents 54% of the illegally trafficked firearms in the U.S. between 2017 and 2021, Justice Department officials said. The guns were used in 368 shooting cases, which are harder to investigate because unlicensed dealers aren’t required to keep records of their sales that could allow federal agents to trace the weapon back to the original buyer, said ATF Director Steve Dettelbach. |

According to Harmon, the driver claimed self-defense, yet she contests this assertion noting that the driver appeared unharmed without any signs of a dog attack.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the distress call at Harmon’s residence. According to the police, the delivery driver reported being attacked by the dog, prompting him to defend himself by firing a shot that resulted in the dog’s death. The police statement mentioned that no criminal charges have been filed and the case has been closed, with no further parties being sought after in the investigation. |

The Fix NICS Act, which became law with Emmer’s support in 2018, requires the FBI to process appeals for these individuals. However, there is still no private right of action to enforce this requirement.
The Firearm Due Process Protection Act gives Americans the ability to seek a court judgment to correct invalid information if the FBI does not act on an appeal within the two-month deadline. Additionally, the legislation increases congressional oversight by requiring statistics regarding the total number and nature of appeals be reported to Congress annually. Emmer previously introduced the legislation in 2019 and 2021. |

What about a ban on assault rifles? More to the point, is the support Maryland voters can bring by writing to their lawmakers, asking them to please vote for the Gun Industry Accountability Act of 2024 (Senate Bill 488 and House Bill 947). This bill would hold the gun industry responsible in court. The gun industry should not be able to evade basic principles of civil justice that apply to all others in society, and that’s exactly what the Gun Industry Accountability Act of 2024 would ensure.
I do not feel we and our children should be at the mercy of gun lobbyists and manufacturers. |

The 2024 election is less than six months away, and the incumbent President is pushing for a sweeping ban on the sale of many popular guns. This should be driving gun sales up. But it isn’t.
In fact, gun sales in March were down not just from 2020’s record levels but even from last year. They’ve even fallen behind several pre-pandemic years. I examine why that’s so surprising and what might be causing it. |

Last year, Alabama lawmakers unanimously adopted the Personal Privacy Protection Act. That law protects Alabamians from having their personal information abused or improperly disclosed when supporting nonprofit causes. Specifically, the law prohibits state agencies from demanding or disclosing the personal information of nonprofit members, supporters, and volunteers, except where required by current law. Supporters and opponents of the Second Amendment, abortion, and gambling alike are equally protected under the law.

In a remarkable decision that has stirred up both controversy and incredulity and is gaining traction on social media sources such as Reddit and others, United States District Judge Terrence Berg ruled against a third-grade girl who was asked by school officials at Robert Kerr Elementary School in Durand, Michigan, to remove her “Come and Take It” hat during a “hat day” event. The hat, adorned with an AR-15 image and a historic slogan, was deemed inappropriate by the school, citing concerns over the implications of violence and the potential for disruption in the educational setting. |

An April 1 article in The Atlantic reveals what appears to be a newly re-energized effort by the medical community to stick its stethoscope where it doesn’t belong: In your gun safe.
Headlined “The Doctor Will Ask About Your Gun Now,” the 1,793-word report by The Atlantic’s Nancy Walecki opens by discussing Northwell Health, which “is part of a growing movement of health-care providers that want to talk with patients about guns like they would diet, exercise, or sex—treating firearm injury as a public-health issue.” |

A bill introduced by the Arizona state Senate would allow people to carry a gun on university and college campuses if they hold a valid concealed carry permit. If the bill is passed, it would trigger changes to rules at colleges and universities across the Grand Canyon State that ban firearms on campus grounds.
ASU, University of Arizona, and the Maricopa Community Colleges Faculty Association, which oversees 10 community colleges, have policies in place banning firearms on school grounds.
The concealed weapon bill known as SB 1198 was introduced by Republican Sens. Wendy Rogers, Dave Farnsworth and Republican Rep. Leo Biasiucci. |

A bill working its way through the Tennessee legislature would give school districts the power to adopt a policy allowing select school staff to carry a concealed firearm on school property.
The proposal would allow one employee to carry a gun for every 75 students at the school. That means a school with 1,050 students may have 14 school staff members carrying concealed firearms.
The bill would require those staff members to keep a state-issued handgun carry permit. |

In honor of production ramping up at the company's new flagship facility in the Volunteer State, S&W has a new series of M&P9 pistols for 2024.
The special series of four models all carry a laser engraved Tri-Star emblem on the barrel, while the pistol slides bear the company's new Maryville, Tennessee. As such, the handguns are a great follow-up for Smith's new Volunteer series ARs, so named in obvious tribute to the 16th state.
This new Tennessee pistol variants includes two (with and without a thumb safety) 3.1-inch barrel M&P9 Shield Plus micro-compacts, a 4-inch M&P9 M2.0 Compact, and a 4.25-inch M&P9 M2.0 Full-Size. Other than the cosmetic enhancements, they are standard models. |

Tennessee law stipulates you can openly carry a handgun in the state, but soon a new bill from Rep. Monty Fritts (R-Kingston) could change that. It would change the term “handgun” in law to “firearm.”
Democrats had one word for it.
“Nuts,” House Democratic Caucus Chair John Ray Clemmons (D-Nashville) said.
He declined to elaborate further, saying, “That’s it.”
When the bill came up in committee, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) testified against it, saying it’ll end up causing unnecessary panic. |
