Zogby Poll Shows Overwhelming Rejection of Gun Bans as Terrorism Solution

"The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) today released the results of a recent poll it commissioned, conducted by Zogby International, which shows overwhelming rejection by likely American voters of the notion that banning guns would be effective in the fight against terrorism."

"Asked whether they agreed or disagreed that banning guns would reduce the threat from terrorists, respondents to the poll disagreed by a margin of 75 percent. Only one in five respondents supported the notion, and five percent were not sure. Zobgy polled 1,009 likely voters chosen at random nationwide with a margin error of plus/minus 3.2 percent. Polling occurred between March 30 and April 1."

"SAF Founder Alan Gottlieb said the results of this poll clearly show that anti-gunners trying to use terrorism as an excuse to pass more restrictive gun laws are out of step with the American public."

"Probably the easiest way for Second Amendment supporters to make their presence known to Congress is to keep buying firearms. The continued purchase of firearms and firearm accessories sends a clear message to our legislators that: a) firearm owners exist in great numbers; b) they are actively engaged in exercising their rights; and c) any further anti-gun legislation would most certainly lead to unemployment, or worse yet, a real job, for our Senators and Representatives." ...

"Buying firearms and firearm accessories en masse at certain significant times of the year, such as Tax Day, is also a way for Second Amendment supporters to demonstrate strength and unity. Clearly a rise in activity of National Instant Criminal Background Checks will raise an eyebrow at the federal level. Those lucky enough to live in a private-party transfer state, may wish to purchase some accessories to go with their new firearms."

"A VPC propaganda sheet titled 'Voting From the Rooftops,' that supposedly targets .50 BMG rifles, shrieks about 'the severe and immediate threat that heavy and intermediate civilian sniper rifles pose to public safety and national security.' Read that again, dropping the 'heavy' part, and you'll see what the future holds for your tack-driving magnum big-game guns, varmint rifles and target guns."

"The VPC demands that these guns--your guns--be brought under the control of the National Firearms Act. Failure to register your guns--semi-autos, bolt actions, falling blocks, Trapdoors, you name it--would become a federal felony. ..."

"The measure essentially extends a right Floridians already have in their home or car. Under present law, however, people attacked anywhere else are supposed to do what they can to avoid escalating the situation and can use deadly force only after they've tried to retreat."

" 'I'm sorry, people, but if I'm attacked I shouldn't have a duty to retreat,' said the bill's sponsor, state Rep. Dennis Baxley. 'That's a good way to get shot in the back.' "

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small, complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd. — Alexis de Tocqueville
