"Had it not been for a Seattle ordinance that forbids police officers from routinely ascertaining a suspect's immigration status, Monday's murder-suicide at the University of Washington might have been prevented because the perpetrator would have been deported months ago ..."

"Seattle newspapers reported Thursday morning that gunman Jonathan Rowan had been living in this country illegally for more than ten years. Stopped for drunken driving last June 30 by Seattle police, his residency status could have been determined, were it not for Seattle's ridiculous policy. Generically called 'Sanctuary Laws,' they tie the hands of police and allow foreign nationals a free pass to stay here illegally." ...

"Editorials encourage Texas Governor Perry to veto the bill because it would mean a return to the Wild West, and that more guns would put more people in harm's way. As I said, they fail to understand the concept."

"The clue is that these anti-liberty positions basically say that gun owners are the aggressors. Projection. Interference with a civil right and family and personal safety is aggression. Meanwhile, most Americans understand that editorial boards and public officials under oath have no say-so in opposing a civil right - more aggression." ...

It's meant to serve the people, not the other way around. FULL TEXT BELOW:

By all accounts, Rebecca Griego did everything right to protect herself from her stalker. But it wasn't enough. According to "Paper can't stop person hellbent on doing harm" [page one, April 3], court orders of protection are pretty much worthless in the face of a stalker bent on homicide.

It's clear that victims of domestic violence need to take a few more steps to protect themselves: Get a firearm and a concealed-weapon permit; learn to use the gun and carry it with you at all times; be prepared to use it when your stalker shows up.

The court order will then have some retroactive functionality — it will help prove you acted in self-defense.

An eighth-grade Ohio County student has been removed from school after school officials said the student brought a soft air pistol to school.

They said the student was showing it in class and at lunch.

The eighth-grader allegedly told deputies he didn’t know he had the air pistol until he got to school.

Superintendent Lawrence Miller said he is taking this incident very seriously. He said administration will make changes to the district’s safety policies if it feels changes are necessary.

In fact, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Haynes v.
