As Liberty Park first reported earlier this week, the number of active CPLs in the state has actually declined in the past month. There is no doubt that the drop is because sheriff’s departments and police agencies have suspended fingerprinting for private citizens, which is required to complete a CL application.

While revolvers aren’t for everyone, those who like to carry them for personal protection look for a few must-have characteristics. Among those are size, hammer configuration (smooth vs. protruding), and—yes—capacity (five-shot vs. six-shot), a consideration usually reserved for semi-automatics, but it matters to revolver carriers, too. Here are five of the best revolvers for concealed carry that fit the most common criteria. All of these revolvers are double action, most double-action-only (DAO) and small enough to easily conceal in a holster, pocket, or bag. |

Turkey season opens Monday in most of the state and there will be fewer turkeys out there, and perhaps fewer turkey hunters, as well, because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Many Oklahomans undoubtedly will be going turkey hunting next week. Frankly, being isolated in the woods or at the lake is one of the safest places to be. Ticks will be a bigger risk while turkey hunting than COVID-19. |

Officials with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said this past week its not ruling out the modification of hunting and fishing seasons around Oregon if people fail to comply with Gov. Kate Brown’s “Stay Home, Save Lives” order. The ODFW said in a press release distributed late this past week that staffers planned to monitor recreational use of fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing locations while performing their regular duties. Although the organization said it can’t enforce the governor’s order for social distancing — keeping 6 feet from people outside the household — it also said staffers can make recommendations based on what they see in public. |

Many aspects of firearms—from how they perform to what happens when they are employed in self-defense to when they sell well—are counter-intuitive. In other words, what actually happens is contrary to what a reasonable person would expect due to unforeseen factors. This being the case, I thought I’d irregularly touch on some of these aspects of guns and the business of shooting. Some are small matter; others have considerable import. In any event, do really have anything better to do right now?

The National Rifle Association sued Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo for closing gun shops during the coronavirus pandemic, saying the restriction is unconstitutional and leaves citizens defenseless while prisoners are being released early as a result of the crisis. Gov. Cuomo’s March 20 executive order that included firearms retailers as non-essential businesses which must close is a “pointless and arbitrary attack on the constitutional rights of New York citizens and residents,” the NRA said in a complaint filed late Thursday in Syracuse.

Fear of civil unrest and chaos in the streets is prompting a spike in gun and ammunition sales nationwide as people in the United States prepare to defend themselves. Firearm-related purchases were up in March as the coronavirus spread through the country, and more than two-thirds of the population were ordered by local officials to stay at home to slow its spread. The U.S. has yet to see civil unrest, but looting and rioting are possible as the pandemic sets in for the long haul, according to crime, economic, and behavioral experts.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) told reporters he is “immune to NRA lawsuits,” and wishes New Yorkers could develop a similar immunity to the coronavirus. “I think I’ve been sued by the NRA — must be a dozen times. I didn’t even know I was sued this time. You become sort of lawsuit immune,” he said. “I wish you could become immune to this virus the way I’ve become immune to NRA lawsuits,” Cuomo said during a Saturday coronavirus briefing.

Hollow point bullets come in an amazing array of styles, and among them is the boat tail. The hollow point boat tail bullet (HP-BT) – also known as the boat tail hollow point or BTHP ammo – is primarily a rifle ammunition used for hunting big game at long range, and is sometimes used as a coyote and wolf ammo. Like other hollow points, the bullet expands rapidly upon impact, creating a large wound channel and typically stopping most creatures in their tracks with that single shot.

Formal bullseye target shooting with revolvers appears to have begun soon after the end of the American Civil War, coincident with the advent and improvement of self-contained metallic cartridges. For those who require absolutes, Smith & Wesson’s New Model No. 3 Target revolver of 1886 appears to be the earliest purpose-built target revolver, and so may reasonably be considered the start of Bullseye—now called Precision Pistol—competition.
