Quick … “The first big bore, cartridge-firing center-fire sixgun in the old West.” What gun would you think of? Why, the Colt Single Action of course. And you’d be wrong, of course. Here’s why — History at S&W had them developing the No. 1 revolver in 1859 using the ground-breaking .22 Short RF cartridge. This was the first time a metallic cartridge was chambered in a bored-through cylinder and it was an instant hit. The idea of a .22 Short as a defensive gun seems quaint today, but think about it — no muzzle loading chores, fewer mis-fires and the convenience of easy loading and more “cartridges” right at hand. |

The political calculus on the gun issue has changed

Most gun control measures get broad public support, including requiring background checks for private and gun show sales (83 percent in a 2019 poll), a ban on the sale of high-capacity ammunition magazines (61 percent) and a ban on the sale of semi-automatic weapons (57 percent). But what matters politically is intensity of support. Getting gun laws through Congress has always been difficult because of single-issue voting by gun rights supporters.
The gun issue drives their votes; for most other voters, it doesn't.
Submitter's note: I'm a one issue voter. I figure that if someone is too dumb to understand gun rights, then they're likely to be just as stupid on other issues. |

The Trophy Bonded Tip bullet is used in a few Federal Premium Ammunition lines – the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, Trophy Bonded Sledgehammer Solid, and the Trophy Copper. While each of these ammo lines differs slightly, there’s one thing they all have in common, and that’s the tip.
This bullet and its tip were created for one purpose – to take down large, thick-skinned animals (we’re talking African game). These bullets have great features that enable massive penetration and expansion, like a large and very accurate hollow point. |

The debate around guns has once again flared across the nation, and Indiana is no exception. The Indiana House of Representatives passed a gun bill on Feb. 22 that would remove the need for a license for open and concealed carry. Given Indiana’s Republican supermajority, which is strongly in favor of gun rights, House Bill 1369 passed 65-31.

Columbia County’s updated Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance will get a legal review to see if it will hold up under legal pressure. Voters passed Measure 5-278, a Second Amendment Sanctuary initiative, in 2020. It prevents Columbia County from “devoting resources or participating in any way in the enforcement of any law or regulation that affected an individual’s right to keep and bear arms, firearm accessories, or ammunition,” according to election office documents.

You may be seeing new Remington 870s, 700s, and V3s for sale again soon. By far the biggest employer in the upstate New York town of Ilion, Remington, which filed for bankruptcy last fall, is now one giant step closer to making guns. It’s an encouraging development not just for Ilion’s 7,700 residents who depend on the factory for jobs, but for firearms enthusiasts everywhere who have depended on Remington guns since 1816.

There is a central hypocrisy at the heart of the gun control effort. High-profile gun control-supporting politicians, the Hollywood elite, and billionaire tycoons, will advocate to strip ordinary Americans of their right to defend themselves and their family, all the while enjoying the security that armed men with guns provide. As Hunter Biden’s 2018 firearm incident shows, this hypocrisy extends even to incidents where a high-profile individual has taken the step of procuring their own firearm. The message from these elites could not be clearer: Gun laws are only for the little people.

Americans probably hate and love the 6.5 Creedmoor more than any other cartridge. The irony is that until the Creedmoor, Americans never really gave two hoots about 6.5mm cartridges. The well-respected 6.5×55 Swedish Mauser has been around for more than 125 years, but no one really cares. The .264 Winchester Magnum was lauded with greatness when introduced in the early ’60s, but it’s now living, unloved, in the old folk’s home. And the .260 Remington was introduced in 1997, but was mostly ignored in that void between the .243 and the .308 until folks started claiming the 6.5 Creedmoor was better.
