And on & on it goes....
"The boy, 16, apparently fired the gun accidentally on Tuesday as he put it back into his pants pocket, authorities said. The bullet left holes in his pants and the bathroom floor. ... After the shooting incident, the boy took the gun home, then returned to school and turned himself in, Police Officer Chuck Distelhorst said."
KABA Note: Apparently, nobody ever taught this boy basic gun safety. What a shame. |

Under the school district's zero-tolerance policy on violence, school officials notified police, who filed the charges against the boys after interviewing them for nearly five hours at a precinct station. The boys were also suspended for one day.
Hamadi's father called the charges overzealous and an inappropriate reaction to recent school violence across the nation.
"It was crazy," Ron Alston said. "You can't hurt nobody with a piece of paper." |

A Common Pleas Court judge convicted Dominique's 24-year-old mother of involuntary manslaughter for allowing her son access to the loaded .38-caliber weapon he fired at his sister.
But in Family Court, 13-year-old Lakeisha Graham was judged delinquent for accidentally firing the rifle that killed her friend. Her foster grandfather, who had waved a handgun in front of the children earlier that night and left the loaded rifle in plain sight against his bedroom wall, was not charged. |

The .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun had remained locked in a jewelry box for the better part of 10 years, he said. But a week ago, his teenage daughter saw a prowler's hand coming through her broken bedroom window. Her scream chased him away and the family pulled out the gun. Later it was placed in the nightstand drawer. When Leslie, whose nickname is Rudy, came over, "(My wife) had forgotten that it was in the nightstand drawer," Bennett said.
KABA Note: While we don't normally post stories that outline gun owner stupidity, this story serves as a reminder for us to be responsible with our weapons, and to teach our children basic gun safety! This tragedy need not have happened! |

This editorial appeared on the 3rd of April. She advocates asking the kids what is wrong, but as we know from resent polls, kids don't know it all.
KABA Note: She also watches too much network TV. She writes, "School shootings with fewer than 5 dead might not even top the evening news if Alan Greenspan made a peep that day." But she doesn't mention the fact that the media is playing-up these "school shootings" to make them look like a huge nationwide problem, when they are actually quite RARE, especially in comparison to children who die or are injured from medical mistakes, car accidents, drownings, falls, burns, and ingestion of hazardous household chemicals. |

A Juvenile Court judge decided Wednesday that two teen-agers accused of stealing Clark County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury's car at gunpoint will stand trial as adults. "Your counsel says you are not a sophisticated criminal. Well you just graduated," (Judge) Steel said during Odom's (criminal) fitness hearing.
~~Good to see a few good judges are still around. |
