Charlton Heston, the Oscar winner who portrayed Moses and other heroic figures on film in the 1950s and '60s and later championed conservative values as head of the National Rifle Association, has died. He was 84. With age, he grew more conservative and campaigned for conservative candidates. In June 1998, Heston was elected president of the NRA, for which he had posed for ads holding a rifle. Heston famously used to say that the only way his gun would be taken away is "from my cold, dead hands." The National Rifle Association of America's Wayne LaPierre said, "America has lost a great patriot."

Apparently those of us who stock away for a rainy day -- or worse -- were trendsetters all along. What was considered fringe behavior, is now becoming all the mainstream rage.

“Your safe haven must be self-sufficient and capable of growing some kind of food,” Mr. Biggs writes. “It should be well-stocked with seed, fertilizer, canned food, wine, medicine, clothes, etc. Think Swiss Family Robinson. Even in America and Europe there could be moments of riot and rebellion when law and order temporarily completely breaks down.”

"Survivalism, it seems, is not just for survivalists anymore."

This is being done by Americans who instinctively know the lessons of the Warsaw ghetto without ever having read a book about it. They are girding themselves, just as the American arms underground prepared the way for the founding of the state of Israel, with the sinews of war. Robbed of a presidential candidate whom they trust with their liberties, they are voting with their wallets in the one way they know that their opinions may someday, in extremis, be heard.

Retain gun ban in parks

There's a good chance the Interior Department will soon weaken a regulation that restricts visitors from bringing loaded guns into our national parks and wildlife refugees. We'd rather it didn't. Since 1983, a Reagan-era ban has outlawed citizens from bringing readily accessible, loaded guns onto lands overseen by the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The ban does not apply in national parks where hunting is allowed. Now, after heavy lobbying by the National Rifle Association, 50 senators are calling on the Interior Department to overturn the gun ban, even as park rangers praised the ban for making our national parks safer.

Facing the barrel of a sawed-off shotgun on a dark West Baltimore street, Roland Scott fought back. He pulled out his own weapon - a fake handgun - and wrested the shotgun away from his attacker, city police said.

Scott ordered the man to strip naked in the middle of Laurens Street, took $800 from him and forced him to march into the laundry room of a nearby apartment building.

"He starts beating him, telling him to get more money, saying, 'Get me a cell phone or I'm going to kill you,'" said Sgt. Dennis M. Raftery Jr., a supervisor in the Police Department's homicide unit. "He is beating him with the butt of a sawed-off shotgun."

He feared for his life during a recent trip there with the UN, and was held at gunpoint and robbed by child soldiers..stopped at checkpoints by machine gun-wielding..

"It was in southern Sudan and as we were going through checkpoints, there were all these young kids with AK47's. They went through the car and just took what they wanted. We hid all the tapes and stuff, but they pointed guns at us and stole what they could. It happens all the time. They obviously didn't know who we were. They don't have great TV out there."

It's hard to imagine anyone would go after George. He's such a great guy, and he was there to do such important work. Hopefully the soldiers will know who is for next time.

Heston Was the Regal Face of Scrappy NRA

As Moses, Charlton Heston thunderously rallied his people with the Ten Commandments in hand. The tablet of his political life was carved with something else — the Second Amendment. Heston was not just the public face of the gun-rights movement but a good deal of the fire in its belly during a transformational time in the decades-old debate. He lived to see Democrats running away from a cause they once embraced, scared off by the likelihood that they lost the 2000 presidential election in part because of their gun-control advocacy. For a conservative champion like Heston, that was pretty close to the Promised Land. His death Saturday night brought tributes from public figures whose fortunes were linked in some way to his.

Almost one million California cops, judges, prosecutors, and other high-paid parasites have special license plates that make them immune to road tolls and traffic-ticket cameras.

Submitter's note: While not directly kaba related, it is just one more example of the 'Us' vs. 'Them' mentality that grows like a mold in a petri dish (or bacteria in a stagnated pond) in the halls of government. Read it and get angry!

Barack Obama did not hunt or fish as a child. He lives in a big city. And as an Illinois state legislator and a U.S. senator, he consistently backed gun control legislation. But he is nevertheless making a play for pro-gun voters in rural Pennsylvania.

Georgians with weapons permits will be able to carry guns in far more places under a bill that passed both chambers Friday night.

An amended version of House Bill 89 allows holders of concealed weapons permits to carry guns into restaurants, state parks, and on MARTA trains and other public transportation. The legislation, which gun-rights proponents hailed as a major victory, also allows employees to leave weapons in parking lots as long as it's okay with the company.

Submitter's note: Since it was passed on the last day of the session, if Governor does not sign or veto it prior to May 30 it is an Act.

"The FFL allows dealers to buy and sell firearms; revoking it would doom the store. Horsley also recalled that when the BATFE first tried to revoke the FFL, it claimed that Red’s was a 'threat to public safety' but turned around and said that Red’s still could sell the 1,000 or so firearms already in stock—as long as it did not order additional guns to sell.

'You see what I’m up against?' Horsley said. Horsley’s attorney, Richard Gardiner, told AFP that Red’s largest number of clerical errors on BATFE Form 4473 involved something simple, such as not listing the county of residence of the gun-buyers."..

Apparently The Post-Star has decided that while the public may have a right to know the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in Warren County, they aren’t going to be the ones to tell them. After months of wrangling with the county for the release of the names and addresses of concealed carry permit holders, The Post-Star has apparently abandoned its quest.

In the basement of Gaylord’s Northland Sportsmen’s Club, young shooters learn the fundamentals of firearms safety and marksmanship while aiming for National Rifle Association (NRA) honors. Every Wednesday night between October and March, area youth gather at the basement indoor range, don safety goggles, earmuffs and shooting jackets, and participate in the club’s Junior Civilian Marksmanship Program. Under the supervision of a range officer and club members, the young shooters — between the ages of 10 and 20 — meticulously fire .22-caliber rifles at targets 50 feet away.

The more everyone can apply common sense to the Second Amendment and spend less energy arguing over how to interpret it, the better the nation will handle its gun issues. While many gun issues dance around various aspects of the Second Amendment, the recent case argued before the Supreme Court came as close to hitting the nail on the head as any other. Justices heard arguments over Washington, D.C.'s ban on handguns. To a great extent, judging from the questions posed by the justices, most observers concluded the court is leaning toward asserting the right to carry weapons.

A rifle manufacturer asked arms dealers nationwide to make extra safety inspections after discovering it had accidentally shipped four guns loaded with live ammunition. Henry Repeating Arms, a maker of lever-action rifles like ones used in the 1860s and 1870s, said a thorough round of inventory checks revealed no other loaded weapons. "We would never want anybody to get hurt," the company's president, Anthony Imperato, said this week.

As Insp. John "Rick" Capece strode down Lakewood Avenue Friday afternoon, passing cars slowed, windows rolled down and heads emerged, staring. People clustered in the front yards of homes in this Roosevelt neighborhood openly gawked at the sight of the uniformed officer and several police academy recruits stopping in at local stores and residences, handing out fliers promising cash rewards for tips on illegal handguns. All the better visibility for GunStoppers, the Nassau police department's latest anti-illegal-handgun initiative, officials said. Tipsters can call 877-4-GUN-411 anonymously.

You’d think it was a handgun.

It has the shiny black barrel, snap-into-place ammunition magazine and the mark of a famous gun manufacturer on the side.

Only the bright orange tip identifies it as a pellet gun - legal to buy for those 18 years and older and legal to sell at sporting goods stores.

But pellet guns and rifles – like paintball and BB guns – are considered firearms by Verona and Cedar Grove police. Get caught shooting them anywhere in town or carrying them underage, and you’ll face a maximum $500 fine and/or a 90-day Essex County Jail stay for each offense.

The first thing I would like for everyone to acknowledge is that the residents of Greensburg, KS, were forced to evacuate in the aftermath of the horrible CAT 5 tornado that ravaged and destroyed that town and that, in and of itself, was an illegal action as martial law had not been declared. There were many people who wanted to stay and they were threatened with arrest and forcible removal if they did not leave as ordered. The tornado happened at 9:46pm on Friday evening, May 4, 2007 and they were forced to leave within a couple hours of it, being given no time to collect themselves or assess the damages or even try to pick up anything such as guns and valuables.

Vladivostok police are investigating the criminal case launched against former deputy head of Primorye Traffic Police Vasily Goncharuk who killed three people in two separate traffic accidents but so far has not taken any responsibility.

Goncharuk left his position with the police only a year later citing ‘health

the relatives of the killed men agreed to accept damages and withdraw their suit against Goncharuk. The prosecutor’s office did not appeal the ruling which gave no punishment for the traffic police officer who killed two men in a traffic accident. It was not even ruled that Goncharuk’s driver’s license should be revoked. The only question remains – how many killings is the limit for a high ranking official to be prosecuted?
