"What are the reasons and the motives for this sudden surge of American pride? Are we proud of the fact that we became independent from the British monarchy with a Constitution that gave us a number of freedoms too numerous to mention here? Just what do Americans stand for when they put that flag on the back of their vehicle?..."

"The case of an Ohio woman who was charged with ... anonymously passing out leaflets ... is being argued as an example of how campaign finance laws violate free speech."

"The freedom to publish anonymously is protected by the First Amendment, and extends beyond the literary realm to the advocacy of political causes," the U.S. Supreme Court ruled.

"So why does the new campaign finance law signed last month by President Bush outlaw anonymous political speech by private citizens?"

"It's ironic and a bit unfair that "vast right-wingers" like me are still hounded by individuals who insist that we drop the entire Bill and Hillary issue because "it's time to move on." A walk past the newsstand with a pensive Bill Clinton plastered on the cover of Newsweek seems evidence enough that it is not we who refuse to move on."

"Parents sending their kids to college in Colorado this fall will have a whole lot more to worry about if House Bill 1410 passes. HB1410 would require colleges and universities to allow concealed weapons on campus - in dorms, classrooms, athletic facilities, dining halls, libraries - everywhere. In fact, guns would be acceptable in more places in the state of Colorado than cigarettes, alcohol or, for that matter, small children." -- Diane Carman, Denver Post Columnist

"It’s time to declare war. Not against terrorism. Leave that to the White House. This is an intra-state battle. From where I sit, the northern half of the once great state of Ohio is being held hostage by conservative looney-tunes holding sway downstate. ... What could possibly be the impetus for concealed carry in Ohio other than the deep pockets of the National Rifle Association?" -- Marilou Johanek, Blade editorial writer

"TEL AVIV - Near a sign declaring 'Winchester, what America shoots,' Gil Furman loaded shining rounds into a Colt .45, preparing to fire his newly refurbished pistol at targets whose silhouettes were black on white but whose real identity was obvious to anyone. "My father tells me that if I go to the West Bank, I should carry it," Furman, a 38-year-old teacher, said late last month, sheepishly cradling his gun. "If I need it and I don't have it, I'll ask myself why I didn't bring it."

The topic of the hearing: Should law-abiding Ohioans be able to carry a concealed weapon after obtaining a permit?

"Thank you for asking for my recommendation for the Board votes. I'm making no recommendation at all. Because of the power of the Nominating Committee and the two $60,000 ads in the NRA magazines, the only ones that will be elected are the choices of the Nominating Committee. So you don't have a meaningful vote." -- Neal Knox

"The idea that the government might treat law-abiding citizens with the degree of suspicion desired by Del. Mark Shriver and Sens. Brian Frosh and Chris Van Hollen is anathema to the spirit of American freedom. Mr. Alzona's fliers, distributed during recent gun control hearings in the General Assembly, are attempting to defend freedom by depicting Nazi behavior before the Holocaust."

Designating herself a Confederate soldier, Hailie picked up an Oak leaf and pointed it like a gun at the other girl, the so-called “Yankee soldier.”

“This was done in a role-playing scenario,” [Marty] Whatley said. “She said ‘I was just playing.’”

That type of play, ... earned the girl ... a one-day suspension and loss of her safety patrol duties.

Assistant Superintendent Hannah Foster said people need to understand what it takes to maintain secure schools.

"Activists ... claim agents overstepped their bounds and are now using the FBI to cover up civil rights abuses. The residents' complaints included allegations that agents randomly stopped them on the streets and demanded proof that they were in the country legally."
