"Considering that there are an estimated 80 million gun owners in the United States, it should be no surprise that local organizations devoted to protecting and promoting gun rights - especially in the wake of the 2008 Heller ruling and the 2010 McDonald decision by the U.S. Supreme Court - have been springing up, growing in numbers and gaining political clout." ... |

... "We’re further told that it’s 'virtually impossible to obtain a carry permit,' and that a tax must be paid every three years to own a gun legally. So naturally, nine of the estimated 17 million guns in Brazil are unregistered."
"And naturally:""Although Brazil has 110 million fewer citizens than the United States, and more restrictive gun laws, there are 50% more gun deaths; other sources indicate that homicide rates due to guns are approximately four times higher than the rate in the United States." ... |

"Compared to the price of fingerprinting by the King County Sheriff’s Department, the cost of getting fingerprinted in New York City so one can subsequently pay $340 to exercise the right to keep a handgun in one’s own home is astronomical."
"A check with King County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Urquhart this morning revealed that the agency charges $15 for a set of fingerprints. That is paltry when stacked against the $94.25 being assessed against New York City residents, which is an issue in a lawsuit filed Tuesday against New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the city, by the Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation. ..." ... |

"Missouri and Illinois residents currently face no restrictions with regard to the ammunition capacity of their firearms, although in Illinois, that's not due to lack of effort on the part of the gun-haters. Illinois is, in fact, the state where several years ago, state Senator Dan Kotowski went so far as to hijack a bill intended to protect children from sexual exploitation, and tried to turn it into a law banning 11-round and larger magazines." ... |

"As you know, you can’t buy a gun without a dealer punching your particulars into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The good folks at the FBI run the system. If the federal government shuts down, it’s entirely possible that the NICS system will go dark. ..." -------
Submitter's Note: Actually 18 USC §922(t)(5) only provides for sanctions against the FFL if "the national instant criminal background check system was operating". Mind you, merely following the letter of the law has never prevented the ATF from slamming a dealer. |

... "The right to bear arms and rights of the LGBT community, including same-sex marriage, are covered by the same ideological principle. It is time for a political compromise to put both of these issues to rest once and for all."
"Generalizations should be considered a bad thing — but let’s face it, without them politics in America would come to a complete standstill. Gun rights versus gay rights unfortunately boils down to the cliché conservative versus liberal battle just like every other issue." ... |

"I read with great interest your editorial 'Middle-ground sham.' I disagree with your opinion. The Second Amendment to the Constitution states in part that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed; it does not say guns."
"Therefore, if I wanted an M1-A1 tank, which is an arm1, I should be allowed to have it according to strict interpretation of the Second Amendment. No one on either side of this issue thinks that I have a right to an M1-A1 tank, nor a TOW anti-tank missile, nor a mortar, nor an RPG2. All of these are arms. No one on either side of this issue thinks I should be allowed to possess a .50-caliber machine gun." ... -------
Submitter's Note: Okay, 1 'arms' means weapons carried by a soldier, so it does not include tanks or TOWs. 2 Don't try to speak for a 'side' you are completely ignorant of. Many of us on the side of liberty do believe that we have the right to own "swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier". Which includes pistols, rifles, .50 caliber machine guns, RPGs, LAWs, MANPADSs, Claymores, etc.. |

"A man wears a red shirt with a graphic of a large handgun over a Bible."
"He’s at a Republican-sponsored forum on the county budget. At first glance, one might think the wearer is advocating the 'Second Amendment remedy.' That is, if you don’t get your way in the voting process, get an armed crowd together and attack the elected officials who voted your side down." ... -------
Submitter's Note: Or maybe he's making a statement that the Second Amendment protects the First. |

"Reno police said a 32-year-old homeowner Wednesday night shot and killed a 19-year-old man who drove up to his home and confronted him with a gun while demanding his property." ...
"[Lt] Rafaqat said he discourages dangerous confrontations, and asked that residents be 'good witnesses' and immediately report suspicious activity to police." ... -------
KABA Note: I think the homeowner's method of 'discouraging dangerous confrontations' will work better than the Ell-Tee's method. |

"The most recent controversy on my Pittsburgh university campus has been whether to create a police department with armed cops. The question has divided the campus. Some believe armed guards would provide more safety in our downtown neighborhood; others believe there is a negative image from the perceived need to have armed police on a campus advertised as safe. Some question whether an officer would be tempted to use a gun simply because he/she has it. But I suspect most of us on this campus would agree that it is foolish to let students and others outside of the police carry guns on campus." ... |

"'I've got three guns and one dog,' he told the Alliance of California Law Enforcement."
"Brown spokeswoman Elizabeth Ashford declined to say Wednesday afternoon what kinds of guns her boss possesses."
"'We don't discuss the governor's arsenal in detail,' she said." ... -------

KABA Note: Seriously? Three guns is "an arsenal"?!? |

"TTAG started the week with a post reporting that Mexican President Felipe Calderon’s silence on the ATF Gunwalker scandal—in which agents of the United States government let smugglers transport some 3000 guns into the hands of vicious Mexican drug thugs—was down to the fact that his administration was in bed with the Sinaloa drug cartel. And that the U.S. DEA was also giving the Sinaloas a pass. As predicted, Sinaloa member Ismael Zambada has filed a brief in federal court fingering the feds for their involvement in his gang’s activities. ... And here’s the kicker . . ."
