"The gun smoke had barely cleared at Fort Hood last Wednesday afternoon when word of an assault by an armed serviceman spread like wild fire. Even before the exact dimensions of the shooting spree were known, news outlets around the country carried scary messages about the latest active shooter situation."
"Until very recently, the term 'active shooter' — crafted shortly after the 1999 Columbine massacre — was relatively obscure. The term is used mostly in law enforcement circles for SWAT training exercises. But within the past year, fueled by catastrophic mass murders at a Colorado cinema, a Connecticut elementary school and a Washington, D.C., navy yard, 'active shooter' has become widely feared as the modern-day boogeyman armed with a gun." ... |

"If, as libertarians believe, every individual has the right to own his person and property, it then follows that he has the right to employ violence to defend himself against the violence of criminal aggressors. But for some odd reason, liberals have systematically tried to deprive innocent persons of the means for defending themselves against aggression."
"Despite the fact that the Second Amendment to the Constitution guarantees that 'the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,' the government has systematically eroded much of this right. Thus, in New York State, as in most other states, the Sullivan Law prohibits the carrying of 'concealed weapons' without a license issued by the authorities." ... |

"A number of years ago when I got into shooting in a major way, I was eager to run out and get my first handgun. I had spent a good bit of time shooting long guns earlier, but never a handgun. Without much thought, I bought a used GLOCK 22. I loaded up the G22 and blazed away at a torso-sized target at about 20 feet. I think I may have even hit it a few times. Maybe . . ."
"Since then I’ve moved from handgun models to handgun models: SIG, HK, Ruger, Smith & Wesson, Remington, FN, probably others, and I’ve purchased and used striker-fired and DA/SA semi-autos. I’ve given them all a decent workout at the gun club and at the range and training center I frequent. Revolvers too." ... |

His big idea, apparently, was a high-tech gun tracking bracelet. I bet an extra step or two to keep our eye on those guns that 'walked' across the border (with DOJ authorization) would have been a good idea."
