A Portland teen was arrested after police allegedly discovered that he brought a loaded sawed-off shotgun to school.
Michael Anthony Canell, 17, was charged with one count each of a felon in possession of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a short-barrelled firearm.
In a conversation with a school counselor on Tuesday, Canell mentioned that he was carrying a gun inside his coat. He was arrested shortly after at a bus stop.
Officials say the gun was used in at least one nonfatal shooting, said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, Portland Police bureau spokesman. |

A 15-year-old student at Northwood High School near Blanchard, LA was arrested after a loaded .45-caliber handgun was found at the school.
The School Resource Officer, Keith Cornelious, responding to a tip, questioned the girl about the gun. She told him that she had hidden it in a trash can at the school. Cornelius investigated the claim, and found the gun in the trash can.
The girl, who is suspended from school, was sent to the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center charged with illegal carrying of a firearm on school property. |
