The New Mexico state director of the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action, Tara Reilly Mica, on Thursday released the following statement in response to New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lugan Grisham's announcement regarding mandated gun store closures.
"The governor's announcement today was a first step toward restoring the self-defense and Second Amendment rights of New Mexicans -- rights she unlawfully, unilaterally and carelessly stripped away when she ordered the closure of all gun stores last month. The NRA will not stop until the rights of all law-abiding New Mexicans are fully restored." |

The U.S. District Court granted a preliminary injunction blocking California’s new law requiring background checks for all ammunition purchases with a ruling on Thursday, April 23, that characterized the law as “onerous and convoluted” and a violation of the Second and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.
The ruling was made by U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez of San Diego in the case of Kim Rhode vs. Attorney General of the state of California Xavier Becerra, seven months after the law went into effect. The injunction went into effect immediately. |

Federal’s “Train + Protect” ammunition line is being expanded to include more cartridges. Previously available in 9mm Luger, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP, this ammo is loaded with hollowpoint bullets but is priced lower than “premium” defensive ammo… so you can afford to practice with the same stuff you carry for self defense.
Pictured above is the new load & bullet in 380 ACP. |

Whether sport hunting, target shooting, or using firearms in the line of duty or for self-defense, gun owners expect their weapons to discharge every time without fail. However, this requires proper firearm cleaning and lubrication after virtually every use. Failing to do so can not only decrease firing accuracy but also lead to unexpected lock backs and misfires at the most inopportune – even life threatening – moments. |

On Friday, the justices will hold their regular conference — by phone — to consider adding cases to next term’s docket. Up for consideration: a challenge to the state’s law governing licenses to carry firearms outside the home. That law allows local authorities to make applicants demonstrate the need to carry a gun because they have “good reason to fear injury to the applicant or the applicant’s property.”
That case, as well as a challenge to the state’s assault weapons and ammunition ban, had been put on hold by the court while it considered a New York public-carry case. On Monday, the court dismissed the New York case as moot because the law had already been repealed. |

The long and complicated history of the powerful gun rights organization known as the National Rifle Association merits a serious examination by an author not handpicked by the group to tell its story. The journalist and gun enthusiast Frank Smyth has nominated himself for the task. The result, “The N.R.A.: The Unauthorized History,” is an earnest and refreshingly even-tempered, if not entirely thorough, account of the most feared lobbying force in America. |

The Mississippi Justice Institute, a non-profit constitutional litigation center, has filed a lawsuit on behalf of pro-Second Amendment State Rep. Dana Criswell (R-Mount Olive) against Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba's executive order prohibiting the open carry of firearms in the city. This legal action, filed in the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Mississippi, challenges both the constitutionality and legality of the mayor's open carry ban. Your NRA-ILA reported earlier this week that the mayor's actions violate both the Mississippi Constitution's right to keep and bear arms provision and the state firearms preemption law. |

Humans have a tendency to seek acceptance. Cartridges, on the other hand, are inanimate objects; they seek nothing. However, for a cartridge to be accepted by humans, at least American humans, it first needs to be accepted by SAAMI. I’ve written about SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc.) here before. It’s the organization that makes sure there’s an established level of safety in commercially manufactured firearms and ammunition. |

Former Vice President Joe Biden has been coronated “2020 Presumptive Democratic Nominee” but it looks like gun control groups will get to decide his vice-presidential pick in a gun control beauty pageant. It’s no surprise. The only thing left to do is place a tiara and hang a sash.
Just in time for millions of new gun owners to start paying attention, two gun control groups funded by former candidate billionaire Michael Bloomberg, Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action, announced they will host a series of “virtual town halls” with prospective Biden running mates. |

The Mississippi Justice Institute is pursuing a lawsuit against Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba and the City of Jackson after he signed an executive order temporarily banning open carry of firearms in Jackson. The mayor signed the order on April 22 as the capital city struggles with two concurrent public-health crises, COVID-19 and gun violence.
The Mississippi Justice Institute filed the lawsuit on April 27 on behalf of Mississippi Rep. Dana Criswell. The lawsuit argues that the mayor’s executive order violates Mississippians’ constitutional rights and the Second Amendment. |

One thing Second Amendment supporters can take to the bank is that they will not get anything close to an honest study out of HR 4740, the TASER Access, Safety, and Effectiveness Review and Study Act, or TASERS Act. For starters, the bill’s sponsor should be a huge red flag in and of itself. This bill was introduced by Representative Bobby Rush (D-IL), who also is known for the Blair Holt Firearm Owner Licensing and Record of Sale Act. |
