Just one day after the U.S. Supreme Court chose to hear an important Second Amendment case out of New York, the National Rifle Association and the Association of New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs asked the Court to hear another crucial case, this one involving gun-magazine capacity.
In this case, Association of New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs, Inc., v. Gurbir S. Grewal, plaintiffs argue that New Jersey’s ban on ammunition magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds is unconstitutional. |

Senate Bill 256 repeals Colorado’s preemption law that prevents localities from passing their own gun control. This law has ensured that all law-abiding Coloradoans have the same rights regardless of where they reside and has also ensured that adults licensed to carry a handgun for self-defense are not prevented from doing so just because they seek a higher education. Without it, there will be a confusing patchwork of laws that are difficult to know and obey, and an expansion of arbitrary boundaries where law-abiding citizens are left defenseless. |

Armed people have a power advantage over unarmed people. People do not want others to have a power advantage over them. It makes them uncomfortable. To prevent this, the voluntarily unarmed often want everyone else to be unarmed.
It is why many who are voluntarily unarmed dislike concealed carry but violently abhor open carry. Open carry presents them with a reality they cannot easily ignore. It destroys their comfortable fantasy. |

“… Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose …”
The Supreme Court is the final word on what the Second Amendment says. Not the NRA, with its bumper sticker distortions, and certainly not our governor or some county commission. |

And while the quick response from some, namely the left-wing mainstream media and liberal politicians, is to ban weapons and become more restrictive, it appears to me that we have serious mental health and poverty issues contributing to gun violence. I don’t believe that banning guns will result in any significant decline in shootings attributed to these two categories. |

A Franklin County jury decided Friday that a 32-year-old man with a concealed-carry permit was acting in self defense when he fatally shot another man during a confrontation at a Far East Side gas station.
Nehemiah Martin of the Far East Side was acquitted of murder charges in the Jan. 22 shooting death of 31-year-old Brandon Clark.
The jury deliberated for less than three hours before returning the not-guilty verdict to Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Colleen O'Donnell. |

I can’t tell you how many times I have heard the same outrageous quip: “I would just shoot’em.” Or, equally troubling, “I carry a gun so I don’t need to fight.” This will ruffle some feathers, but if you carry a gun so that you don’t need to know how to fight, the gun is a talisman rather than a tool. The operative word in “gunfight” is fight, not gun. A firearm is only a force multiplier, a tool to more effectively accomplish a given task. |

House Bill 1927 has passed the Texas House and Thursday passed a Senate committee advancing it to the Texas Senate floor. Rep. Matt Schaefer said in an interview Friday he is hoping his bill on permitless gun carry will be passed unchanged in the Senate.
Schaefer said the Second Amendment grants the constitutional right to bear arms for self-protection. He stressed this bill’s aim to help those law-abiding citizens who would carry a gun for self-defense.
The bill would allow vulnerable Texans, such as a woman who feels “insecure in that dark parking lot”, to carry a handgun in her pocket or purse for her own safety, according to Schaefer. |

The Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) has filed a lawsuit against the Illinois State Police (ISP) for failure to process firearms permit renewal applications within the lawful 30 days, which they call a Second Amendment violation.
Holders of expired Illinois Firearms Owners Identification (FOID) cards or Concealed Carry Licenses recently received another 150-day extension because the ISP is still trying to overcome an extensive application backlog. |

Senate Bill 1382, as amended by the House, protects firearm dealers, manufacturers, distributors, etc., from frivolous lawsuits for the criminal or unlawful use of their product. While federal law currently has this protection, as the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), President Biden has promised to repeal the PLCAA as a main part of his assault on the Second Amendment. Prior to Congress passing PLCAA in 2005, 34 states passed similar laws on their own. With this measure, Arizona can add an additional layer of protection to prevent anti-gun extremists from attempting to bankrupt law-abiding businesses by suing them for the third party, criminal misuse of their legal products. |

With gun sales on the rise, Second Amendment advocates in New Hampshire are divided over a bill that would eliminate the state’s role in conducting background checks for those purchasing handguns.
The House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee held a public hearing Wednesday on a Senate-passed bill that would abolish the state police “gun line,” and instead put the FBI solely in charge of performing background checks using the National Information Criminal Background System. |

A new Washington Post-ABC News survey revealing support for Second Amendment protection has risen by 9 percent, while support for new gun control laws has declined 7 percent, shows Americans are waking up to the importance of gun ownership, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.
“This public awakening to the importance of protecting the right to own a firearm may be largely due to the energetic advertising campaigns we, and our sister organization, the Second Amendment Foundation, have been conducting over the past three months,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. |

Gun sales hit record highs across the United States in the last year, with more African Americans buying guns than in years past, specifically Black women.
Some believe political unrest is driving higher sales. Others say it’s the new presidential administration threatening to tighten gun laws.
For the 1770 Armory and Gun Club that just started towards the end of 2020, it was about creating a welcoming safe space to learn. |

“This is a humongous loss for anti-gun Democrat State Attorneys General,” said Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “They consistently attack Second Amendment rights any way they can. This legal debacle was led by Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson, who became famous for suing the Trump administration in a series of partisan legal actions that cost taxpayers millions of dollars."
The Ninth Circuit panel remanded the case back to the district court with instructions to dismiss. |

Somehow, the folks in Little Rock have become convinced that negating future federal laws is within their power, all because of the so-far unrealized fears that a Democrat in the White House translates into the probability of door-to-door searches for individually owned guns of every kind. So HB 1957 simply declares them "null and void." Isn't that handy? |

One of the most closely-watched pieces of legislation before the General Assembly this year came up for initial debate in the Senate chamber on Tuesday. Senate Bill 39, otherwise known as the Second Amendment Preservation Act, would exempt Missouri from federal laws that restrict our right to keep and bear arms. This bill has generated more calls and emails from the district than any other issue this year. The individuals calling about this bill have shared their impatience with passing this legislation, and I’ve heard concerns from law enforcement officials who are worried that the bill could limit their ability to effectively do their jobs. |
