The fickle nature of firearms sales and its effect on stock trading was on full display again Monday. Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. reported after the market closed a 4.5 percent decrease in first-quarter net income to $22.2 million, along with a 3.3 percent drop in net sales to $167.3 million. Yet, Ruger’s diluted earnings were unchanged from a year ago at $1.21 a share — exceeding analysts’ projections by 23 cents. |

A 49-year-old Lexington man was indicted Tuesday on firearms charges after Lexington police seized 83 guns and 10,000 rounds of ammunition from his home during an investigation into allegations that Robert Ivarson racially harassed his black neighbors. A Middlesex grand jury on Tuesday indicated Ivarson, 49, of Lexington, on charges of possession of a large-capacity firearm (two counts), possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card (three counts) and possession of chemical mace without an FID card. |

Loves Park Police are investigating after someone broke into a gun store and stole some firearms. Police say KAP Guns, 7307 Edward Drive in Loves Park, was burglarized around 3:30 a.m. Monday. Police say someone broke in and stole guns, however it is unclear how many guns were taken.

The Iowa Department of Corrections has fired a prison captain after finding that he purchased ammunition for his and other employees' personal use through its supplier at the tax-free government rate. Iowa Medical and Classification Center supervisor D.J. Quinlan was fired Feb. 17 after spending nine months on paid leave during a disciplinary investigation that the department had ordered him to keep quiet. His firing became public last week when Quinlan appealed it to the Public Employment Relations Board. An inquiry by the Division of Criminal Investigation into Quinlan's alleged misconduct remains open.

Big Lake Schools found itself in a dust storm over a decision to not allow this year’s trap shooting team photo in the yearbook because guns were in visible the picture. It made headlines across the state. Rep. Nick Zerwas, R-Elk River, sent a letter to Big Lake School Superintendent Steve Westerberg to encourage him to do what he could to overturn the decision. |

The North Providence School Committee has joined about 20 other school boards in supporting proposed legislation that would prohibit guns on school property. At its April 26 meeting, the board voted for a second straight year to unanimously support a gun-free resolution sponsored by the Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence in support of two bills before the Senate and House that would prohibit anyone, including visitors, teachers and staff members, from carrying firearms on school campuses, at sports fields, on buses and on field trips. |

Metro is investigating a deadly stabbing early Tuesday morning. The scene is located on 960 North Sloan Lane which is near Bonanza Road. Metro was called out to the Pleasant Hill Apartment complex at 1:30 a.m Tuesday. Officers say they found a man in his 50's dead from a stabbing. Metro says a roommate also suffered a stab wound and will likely survive. |

Bob Owens, a longtime Second Amendment advocate and editor of the website Bearing Arms, was found dead Monday in North Carolina. He was 46. Leading with an item titled, “We Are Diminished,” Bearing Arms co-editor Jenn Jacques on Tuesday expressed “deep regret and profound sorrow” that Owens’ “life came to a tragic end.” “We did not make an announcement on Bearing Arms because it was more important to us to give the family a day to grieve than to break the story and get clicks,” Jacques wrote, adding that Owens was “a huge part of the 2A world, he was first and foremost a son, brother, husband, father, and friend.” |

Forty-six people were charged in a major New Jersey drug and gun bust this week — the second big roundup near schools in two weeks, police said. Police announced Monday that they arrested 46 people, recovered four firearms — including one replica — and confiscated 383 decks of heroin in an operation that was largely based in Newark. Police also recovered 309 vials and/or bags of cocaine, 50 plastic bags of marijuana and 38 pills between Thursday and Sunday.

The Chicago Police Department warned its officers Monday about gangs armed with high-powered weapons, after three people were shot to death over the weekend and two cops were targeted in an ambush last week. Anthony Guglielmi, a police spokesman, said three people who were killed in shootings Sunday were all members of the same street gang. Two of them died while attending a memorial for the earlier victim. |

Shares of gun makers surged on Tuesday after Sturm Ruger & Company Inc's quarterly results suggested demand is recovering following a steep sales drop after the election of Donald Trump as president. Sturm Ruger shares jumped as much as 16 percent and were still up 10 percent at $63.15 in afternoon trading. Shares of Smith & Wesson's owner, American Outdoor Brands Corp , were up 4.4 percent at $21.95.

A Glendale homeowner caught men stealing his guns Sunday morning, and the police chase which followed put an entire neighborhood into lockdown. Adam Rocha, who lives in a quiet neighborhood near 43rd and Northern avenues, walked in on the crime early Sunday morning. He says two young men woke him up offering to do landscaping work.
