A recently qualified Olympian got his start with a discovery of his keen eye, a steady hand and a desire to excel at the Montana Matters Youth Outdoor Event held each May in the Bitterroot Valley.
Marcus Klemp was recently awarded his Olympic National Team uniform for the 2023 Junior World Cup and Junior World Championship teams.
Klemp, a junior at Big Sky High School, started his shooting adventure in Hamilton at the Montana Matters Youth Outdoor Event.
MMYOE Organizer Thomas Powers said youth from across Montana attend the event held every May.
“That's where they get to shoot at the Mule Deer Foundation's pellet gun shooting trailer and then sign up for the shooting event at Whittecar [Rifle Range],” Powers said. |

Yesterday, the House Committee on Community Safety reported out House Bill 2744, legislation which restricts the Second Amendment rights of young adults aged 18-20 by prohibiting them from purchasing most semi-automatic rifles. At age 18, citizens are eligible to vote, be drafted, serve in the military, serve on a jury, enter into contracts, sue and be sued, get married, and own property. Restricting their right to purchase and own firearms is unconstitutional and will not reduce crime. It is critical that you call and email your State Representatives TODAY and urge them to OPPOSE HB 2744! Click here to find your Representative. |

Florida made headlines when it became the 26th state to pass some form of constitutional carry last month, but the Sunshine State isn’t stopping there in its defense of our Second Amendment rights. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) recently signed into law a bill that explicitly bars financial institutions from “discriminating against customers for their religious, political, or social beliefs … including owning a firearm.” |

Several states are moving to enact legislation cracking down on paramilitary organizations after a years-long rise in organized political violence across the United States. In Oregon—where members of movements such as Antifa have regularly clashed with right-wing militant groups in cities like Portland—lawmakers recently proposed legislation to expand the state's definition of "civil disorder" in terms of unlawful paramilitary activity, both in response to recent activity in the state as well as incidents like the right-wing takeover of the state's Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in 2016. |

Only days after the Second Amendment Foundation and founder Alan Gottlieb filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson, two of the nation’s largest sporting goods wholesale distributors have petitioned Thurston County Superior Court for declaratory and injunctive relief over civil investigations mounted by Ferguson’s office involving their businesses. |

Are you thinking of competing in an action handgun match? Look at CZ’s Shadow 2. Graceful, lean, and colorful, this handgun is ready for competition straight out of the gate. Complete with three magazines and ambidextrous features, all you will need is a holster and belt to experience fast-action fun. My review of this beauty will put the gun through a few tests and show it to be a racehorse of a competitive gun.

The XPB series is a line of ammo created and distributed by Barnes Bullets (well known among reloaders), an ammunition manufacturer based in Utah. These bullets are only used in large caliber handgun ammo, from the .357 up to .500 S&W and everything in between. The Barnes XPB features various nose shapes, but one thing is standard across every bullet type – the hollow point. This allows for maximum expansion on impact and phenomenal stopping power, no matter what you’re shooting. |

The thought leaders in the realm of self-defense have become more fervent in the advocation of carrying less-lethal defensive weaponry even if, perhaps especially if, you carry a gun. Years ago, tools such as OC Spray (pepper spray) were considered a poor alternative to a real weapon. Concealed carriers often thought that pepper spray was made only for those who wished to have a magic talisman of a weapon with them but did not want to commit to carrying a lethal tool. |

The red flag bill about to be signed into law by anti-gun Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer won’t become effective until next year. By that time, courts will likely have ruled such laws are unconstitutional. In New York, anti-gun Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul sees the same handwriting on the wall and has issued a directive to the state police to ramp up use of the state’s red flag law before it is declared unconstitutional. |

Shooting Illustrated readers can take some comfort in the fact that during this shaky economy with an increasing number of bank failures, their firearm collection and ammunition does not rely on an under-funded FDIC to maintain its value. The financial turbulence, however, has resulted in at least one company launch a new investment strategy aimed directly at gun owners.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
I now think the only way to control handgun use is to prohibit the guns. And the only way to do that is to change the Constitution. — M. Gartner, then President of NBC News, USA Today, January 16, 1992, pg. A9 |
