Scenes of armed demonstrators towering over lawmakers during a protest at the Michigan Capitol two weeks ago have prompted calls to ban firearms inside the historic building and thrust a little-known commission into the middle of the debate.
But Michigan Capitol Commission members, a majority of whom serve at the pleasure of leadership in the Republican-led Legislature, do not think they have legal authority to regulate firearms despite Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel’s assertion they do.
A 2013 state law gives the unpaid, six-member commission the power to “operate and manage” the public building in Lansing. The statute does not detail that power, however, and leaves some decisions ... |

Buried in the text of a Reason online essay about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s recent announcement banning some 1,500 models and variants of firearms in reaction to the murder rampage in Nova Scotia—a crime that allegedly would not have been prevented by the proposed restrictions, say critics—is a critical point gun grabbers habitually ignore. |

The gun rights group Young Americans for Liberty sued Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried claiming she’s depriving Floridians’ rights. The suit aims to lift a suspension of online concealed weapons permit applications. “Nikki Fried thinks that your right to self-defense is negotiable. She’s wrong,” said Cliff Maloney, YAL President. “This is a blatant disregard for the rule of law, and I will not idly sit by while Nikki Fried uses this crisis to enact her gun-grabbing agenda. I encourage all Americans to join this fight for our rights. We either believe in liberty in times of crisis or we do not believe in liberty at all.” |

The soft point cutting edge bullet (SPCE) is essentially a modified semi-jacketed bullet that’s been designed to expand in a very controlled fashion. Unlike a standard soft-point or hollow point where the core is often bonded with the casing, this bullet doesn’t lock the lead core in completely. Some call it “water bottle” ammo, because the point of the bullet is vaguely designed similar to a pet hamster’s water bottle. The core isn’t bonded to the casing, allowing a different style of expansion and penetration.

The number of membership applications have surged since early February at the Newport Rifle Club, though the motivators driving applicants are nuanced. If you were to ask 12 different people why they applied for membership at the country’s oldest continuously operated rifle club, “you’re gonna get 12 different reasons,” said President David Jones. “Even [among] those who have bought [firearms] because of the pandemic, there’s a whole spectrum of reasons.” |

After an investigation three individuals have been arrested for the April 13 burglary of the American Arms gun store in the 4500 block of W. Ind. 45, according to Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo. Two men, Jesse Kortea, 38-years-old, and Joshua Deckard, 37, gained entry to the gun store by using a cutting torch to gain entry through the rear door at approximately 1:40 a.m. They were documented on surveillance cameras running through the store, and taking several fire arms before fleeing. Their alleged get-a-way driver, April Miller, 38, the girlfriend of Kortea, had driven the men to and from the store. The two men were identified by confidential informants, according to the police. |

At a time when folks are donning sweats to work from home but still want to conceal carry in the house just in case, or you need a holster you can just throw into your waistband for a quick run to the store (where you might have to wait in line 6 feet apart just to get inside), a clipless holster that doesn’t require a belt or a lot of planning can be a great option. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The supposed quietude of a good mans allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside...Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them... — Thomas Paine, I Writings of Thomas Paine at 56 (1894). |
