It's Time to Arm Airline Pilots

"Arming airline pilots is an issue that should pack the wallop of a .44 magnum with grassroots organizations. In March the Coalition of Airline Pilots Associations [CAPA] issued a report card assessing aviation security in our country. Aviation security is a complicated subject but on several vital subjects CAPA has assigned low grades to the Transportation Security Administration [TSA] and the airlines. The TSA received a 'D' for its Federal Flight Deck Officer [FFDO] program, which arms pilots but has been minimally effective because 'poor operational policies' restrict the number of pilots who should be trained and armed to handle terrorists."

"Veterans of World War II, the Veterans of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War could legally register firearms brought home as war trophies under a bill introduced May 4 by Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev."

"The bill, HR 2088, allows veterans and their heirs to register firearms that troops were allowed to bring home under U.S. military policy in effect at the time. It would not change existing policy for combat veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan who are barred from bringing back any captured weapons."

"I am tired of gun-control laws, their supporters and their tired lies. The assault-weapons ban is dead. You cannot breathe new life into it with the same lies and emotional diatribe that gave it life initially. My opinion is unchanged by the most recent reiteration."

"There are good cops, and there are bad cops. But national press outlets, predisposed to harp on law enforcement as an inherently racist and reckless institution, hype the hellions at the expense of the heroes. Case in point: the hysterical feeding frenzy this week over reports of a cop shootout gone awry in Compton, Calif., and of a Seattle officer who reportedly Tasered a pregnant woman over a speeding ticket."

"Gone awry?" "Reportedly?" So that's OK?

"Law enforcement officers visiting Washington for National Police Week will tell Congress it's getting more dangerous for police on America's streets, not safer, because of new firearms that pack a devastating wallop and the return of formerly banned military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines."

"Unfortunately, instead of doing anything about the higher threat level, Congress is going in the opposite direction, preparing to move legislation that protects gun corporations from being held accountable for acts of negligence."

"Local police officers would have the power to arrest and effectively deport people living in Arizona illegally under a bill passed by the Legislature on Tuesday and sent to Gov. Janet Napolitano."

"Currently, such powers are restricted to federal agents. Senate Bill 1306, approved by the Senate by a vote of 16-11, is based on the belief that the state has too few federal agents to deal with an increase in the population of undocumented immigrants."

"Opponents have said the police officers do not want the added authority and that the deportation of undocumented workers is a federal issue."

"'There was an admission on his part that the accusations against him were true,' Goin said. 'I heard about it late this morning. It's shocking. I don't know what's happening. I don't know why. What would possess you to carry a concealed weapon? We're just not going to live with that.'"

What??? What part of "shall not be infringed" results in "I don't know why?" The Corry part of UC is crime ridden, and maybe that's why.

For that matter "I don't know why" college campuses infringe on the right to self defense.

"The NRA vocals have a lot of nerve. They are constantly crying that their rights are being violated under the Second Amendment."

"It's too easy for such special-interest groups to focus on what they feel are their individual rights under the Constitution, and forget about the rights of the "whole" for the common good."

"When it comes to public protection, providing for the 'common good' is the job of law enforcement."

"Responsible gun owners, step away from your computer keyboards. Whittenburg is the first to acknowledge that the nasty e-mails and telephone messages surrounding Maine's never-ending debate over firearms come not from mainstream hunters or target shooters or collectors. Rather, she blames them on 'the bullies' who attack anything they consider a threat to their beloved Second Amendment."

"But lately, those bullies have Whittenburg worried. Last week's story out of Augusta - that state Sen. Ethan Strimling, D-Portland, had forwarded three pieces of hate mail to the Attorney General's Office, including one from the 'No Warning Headshot Photo Lab for Freedom' - is but one example of what Whittenburg calls a stepped-up offensive against anyone who dares submit a bill containing the word 'firearm.'"
