"An electronic billboard touting 'Guns Save Lives,' bought by a Bellevue organization, will be seen by thousands of New Yorkers and visitors in Times Square this month."

"Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), as well as executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, both of Bellevue, wouldn’t say how much CCRKBA paid for the Times Square billboard, but said he envisions the electronic sign will be seen by 'hundreds of thousands' of New York residents and tourists this month." ...

... "In a complaint filed this week in federal court, Lane and a gun rights advocacy group, the Second Amendment Foundation, claim their constitutional rights have been violated."

"'These provisions not only have the effect of barring District of Columbia residents from acquiring handguns, but also, generally, unjustifiably frustrate and make more expensive all Americans' attempts to obtain the handguns of their choice,' the complaint says."

"The complaint claims the federal prohibition on individuals transferring handguns from state to state themselves violates their Second Amendment right to own a gun." ...

... "While passage of an anti-gun global treaty by the Constitutionally-required congressional supermajority seems politically unfeasible at the present, an Obama victory in 2012, where he does not need to worry about reelection, could significantly amplify the threat—particularly if Democrat-Lite Republicans continue squandering the gains they made in the last election and alienating their core constituencies." ...

... "However, I got to thinking I might have to take back all the ungenerous things I’ve ever thought or said about McCain when she took Maddow to the NRA convention. It turns out she’s a Second Amendment fan. Of course, that doesn’t make a person conservative either. Ted Kennedy owned guns."

"While wandering around the convention floor with MSNBCs cameras lingering on little kids handling handguns (gasp) Maddow grilled McCain on her thoughts about reviving the assault weapons ban. My hopes for McCain were finally dashed against the rocks with her reply." ...

"Too often, it seems city officials in Washington would like to forget they must operate under the Constitution. The District has gone out of its way to deny residents any meaningful ability to protect themselves at home with a firearm, prompting the Second Amendment Foundation to file a lawsuit on Tuesday to allow gun purchases in the nation’s capital." ...

"On April 27 in this blog, commenting on training at the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, I pointed out that some of the instructors saw 'Mumbai coming to the USA' and mentioned the roles of both first-responder cops and armed citizens at mass-murder sites. Since then, Osama bin Laden has been whacked, and the wire services have reported, 'Al-Qaida’s plots are usually large-scale and involve planning over months or even years. But Western intelligence officials say they are seeing increased chatter about cheap, small-scale attacks – perhaps by individuals or small extremist groups inspired to take revenge for the killing (of bin Laden).' It turns out that those ILEETA instructors were prescient." ...

"You may recall that TTAG scribe Chris Dumm and I had some 'issues' with the 1894c’s Marlin sent us for our competing project guns (retro-funky vs. Cowboy Assault Rifle). In specific, my unfired lever action 1894c broke in two (the stock and the action had a dramatic parting of the ways). Chris’s 1894c had some oaf marks on the screws and various other fit and finish problems. Before posting the pics and video of the unintentional folding-stock lever gun, I contacted Marlin’s spinmeister for comment. She demurred, pending contact with the appropriate product managers. So I pressed play on the Marlin brand slam and called my main man Len at Grizzly Custom Guns, to whom the 1894c was supposedly headed . . ." ...

"Along with the M&P pistols and rifles, the Smith and Wesson folks brought out a few other goodies, ranging from flashlights to press kit USB devices shaped like ear plugs. An item that caught my particular attention: their Pro Series 1911 in 9mm. Ever the gun junkie, I approached the Smith rep about carrying the pistol for the morning. Ever the ballistic crack dealer, he happily obliged. Galco fit me with a holster and mag carrier on the spot. It rode my hip and I put the Smith and Wesson Pro Series 9mm 1911 through it’s paces. More pictures and some YouTubery after the jump . . ." ...

II, § 26 of Arizona’s state constitution ('The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself or the State shall not be impaired'), the legislature recently named the Colt 'Peacemaker' revolver Arizona’s official State Firearm. ... "... With 90 guns for nearly every 100 people, the U.S. is the most armed nation on the planet, and we have shocking homicide statistics to prove it. The second amendment is used as a pretext for an astounding level of gun proliferation that is unheard of in -- and incompatible with -- a stable democratic society. But we know that the National Rifle Association, which, by the way, is increasingly allied with right-wing extremists, militias and domestic terrorists, is funded by the gun industry to the tune of millions of dollars. This, as illegal firearms ravage our urban communities." ...

"Military Times semi-confirms reports that Heckler and Koch supplied the rifles that the Navy SEALs used to kill terrorist Osama Bin Laden. Word is that the bullet(s) that ended his life was a Black Hill’s 77 grain Match round. The cartridge is part of the continuing process to 'fix' the 5.56 x 45 mm rounds for greater lethality. I prefer the new 6.8 SPC round that Special Forces are trying out in a Jacketed Hollow Point, a la Silver State Armory-but so be it. The big news here: the AK-47 style piston drive is catching on in a big way." ...

Why is Mexico Prez. still blaming U.S. gun shops, not 'Gunwalkers'?

... "Perhaps the real surprise here is that Calderón still lays all the blame on 'lax gun laws' in the U.S., and none on the criminally corrupt, evilly murderous conspiracy, in the guise of gun law enforcement, that is 'Project Gunwalker.' Or then again, perhaps that's not so surprising after all. As discussed here before, the only sensible explanation for the motive behind 'Project Gunwalker' is that it was intended to justify more restrictive gun laws, including a new, permanent, and more comprehensive federal 'assault weapon' ban, and more power and funding for the [ATF]. Calderón is almost obsessively in favor of more American gun laws, especially a new AWB." ...

Well, the NRA rep, John Hohenwarter, and GO-NH, are urging the Senate to 'amend' HB330 by replacing it with a completely different version. Their version attempts to make our carry licenses more difficult to obtain ... But never mind these things: what's most important is that the House HAS ALREADY REJECTED this version ..." ...

"When it comes to firearms laws, the Bay State is bonkers. An otherwise law-abiding gun owner faces 10 years in jail for the simple possession of a post-’94 magazine capable of holding even one bullet more than ten rounds of ammunition. That’s courtesy of the Massachusetts legislature. And now lawmakers in Lowell, Massachusetts (a.k.a. Spindle City) want to pass a law that would require homeowners owning ten or more firearms to store all the weapons in a locked safe. That’s alarmed. Connected directly to the police. Those who don’t follow the storage procedures would face their own lock-up, for five years. According to lowellsun.com, it all started when . . ." ...

... "The statute criminalizes receipt of a firearm after indictment. Even assuming that one who possesses a firearm necessarily received it first, receipt is a discrete occurrence while possession implies a continuous act. A person who acquires a firearm and is later indicted continues to possess the firearm, but he does not receive the firearm again by virtue of that possession. A person under indictment who accepts or takes possession of a firearm after the indictment has both possessed and received a firearm. When the indictment charges only possession, either scenario is possible, but only the latter violates the statute. ..." ...

"While law enforcement officials will concede that the group engages in 'gang-like activity,' they refuse to designate the group itself as a gang. This may have something to do with the fact that this little knot of miscreants is composed of LA County Sheriff's Deputies employed at the Men's Central Jail." ...
