"A lawsuit by the Bloomberg administration has revealed that the firearms industry received key gun data denied to a gun control group, the group charged yesterday."
"When the Brady Center to Prevent Handgun Violence requested the report under freedom of information laws, it received a heavily redacted version, with crucial sections blacked out."
"But the city's subpoena to a firearm trade group found that group had an unexpurgated copy of the November 2000 document, the Brady Center said. The center provided the Daily News with both copies of the document." |

"To Alexis Simms, a custodian at Augusta Elementary School, it was "just a cub, the cutest thing you had ever seen." But to animal control officers and the local police who had tracked it for more than an hour through the closely packed backyards of this Essex County town, it was an addled and frightened black bear that had reared up as if to charge."
"Taking no chances, the police shot and killed the 218-pound bear about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. It was the second bear in five days to be killed after wandering into an urban area where a new state bear management policy allows the animals to be shot and killed. Wildlife officials said the Irvington bear was 1 or 2 years old." |

"The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) today accused perennial anti-gunners including Senators Dianne Feinstein and Chuck Schumer, and Rep. Nancy Pelosi of 'world class hypocrisy' in their snit over disclosures that the National Security Agency (NSA) is checking phone call data, when they have no problem at all snooping into the privacy of American gun owners."
"'The hypocrisy here is staggering,' said SAF founder Alan Gottlieb. 'Feinstein, Schumer, Pelosi and others are having fits about the NSA's possible invasion of privacy over telephone calls, but they've never had such reservations about mining gun trace data from federal law enforcement agencies, or demanding other invasive measures against law-abiding gun owners.'" |

"An incident that unfolded in Tacoma this week, in which a legally-armed citizen was instrumental in helping a Tacoma City Council member who was the victim of a vicious attack, clearly demonstrates how people with firearms contribute to public safety."
"...Initially, only the Tacoma News Tribune and KIRO Eyewitness News were interested in the fact that Korba came to Talbert's aid after grabbing a pistol he keeps at the dry cleaning shop where he works. Talbert was confronted by a motorist who struck him at least twice and then reportedly threatened to kill him while motioning as if he was reaching for a gun." |

"The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearms industry's trade association, called the conclusions of a gun tracing report issued by an antigun group 'ludicrous' and referred those who want an unbiased explanation about the relevance of trace data to the real experts, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)."
"NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane dismissed 'Without a Trace,' a report published by the antigun lobbying group the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. 'Without a Trace' shows antigun groups are without a clue. This so-called report is the last gasp of a desperate extremist group that remains intent on pursuing junk lawsuits against a critical U.S. industry -- despite the clearly stated will of the American people through the actions of Congress and state legislatures to block such lawsuits.'"
"Keane noted that ATF has said that gun traces 'indicate only that a gun has come to the attention of law enforcement. They do not automatically implicate a dealer or purchaser in any wrongdoing.'" |

"I don’t know how many times something like this has to happen before people learn their lesson. Our society is plagued by guns, yet the government does nothing to try to cure the problem."
AND THE REPLY
"Our society is plagued by toddlers. How many people have to die before we do something?! Did those people have a license for that toddler? It was probably one of those assault toddlers that can fire up to five rounds in a single second. It was probably even the toddler of choice for criminals and terrorists. Now did any of those comments sound ridiculous to you? ..." |
