Understanding the political Left is a mind-boggling exercise for normal Americans.
One need only take a peek at its clown car - now a Greyhound bus, actually - of hopefuls vying for the Democratic nod in next year’s presidential election to see why. While the front-runners are wrong on every issue, they are completely off the hook when it comes to the one that warms the cockles of their hearts, and the one they seemingly know least about - guns, and AR-15s in particular.
On that issue, they are foaming-at-the-mouth nuts.
Democrats recently have veered hard left on guns.

The resolution topped Tuesday’s council meeting agenda, and the council chambers was filled beyond capacity, forcing many people to wait outside. Anti-gunners have long infringed on gun rights by spouting off about the need to constrain magazine capacity, to limit how much ammunition you can buy, and to define what kind of gun you can’t own with those every-changing and meaningless definitions of so-called “assault weapons.” Now, they are putting the squeeze on by trying to limit the age of gun ownership at both ends of the age spectrum. Their mantra seems to be, “Well, if you can’t ban the product, find a way to bar people from exercising their rights another way.” |

In 2008, Federal Premium Ammunition collaborated with Sturm, Ruger & Company to develop the .327 Federal Magnum, making it a relative newcomer to the firearms world. The companies’ joint goal was to improve on the .32 H&R Magnum, which was never loaded in a factory round to its full capacity. The .327 cartridge features a .312-inch diameter lead bullet that sits in a straight-walled, rimmed casing that measures 1.20 inch – one-eighth inch longer than the .32 H&R Magnum case (the parent casing on which it is based). Together the cartridge measures 1.47 inches in total length. |

A Detroit man said he scared off two men with a BB gun Friday when they broke into his Boston Edison home.
"I hear some rustling and then I hear a loud boom. I came downstairs and they saw me and took off running through the alley," Corey Watts said.
Watts said he encountered two men who busted into his house through the back door.
At the same time of the break-in, police received reports of shots fired, but Watts said he only used a BB gun.
"I heard shots but I don't know where they came from," he said.
The men tried running to a Ford Escape that was parked by a nearby alley. The SUV is registered to a neighbor on the street.
Police are investigating the incident. |

"Disarmament of American gun owners and the death of their rights will be a very gradual and well disguised process. There obviously is not enough support for such extreme measures of gun control, given that 43% of all American households own at least one firearm. They wont be coming for your shotguns and bolt action rifles and commonly owned handguns… yet."

On Sunday evening, the NBC Nightly News actually ran a balanced report on gun control which included the views of sheriffs who preside over Second Amendment "sanctuary counties" who refuse to enforce new gun control laws. Fill-in host Kate Snow set up the report: "An intense debate over gun laws in this country reignited last week after a deadly shooting at a school in Colorado. Well, that same state is about to enact a controversial law meant to reduce gun violence, but the move is pitting sheriff against sheriff."

Alice told me that if I knew someone, a birder type, that also had a head for business, well, she believed such a person could make a good living taking folks across the border to spend a week bird watching at Rancho Mababi. I searched my brain as far as the quaint beauty within my camera’s viewfinder would allow me to venture, but alas, I knew not the name of the particular yellow bird sky-dancing in the threshold of a red feeder. Nor did I know the names or even general types, other than the prevalent and obvious hummingbirds, of the multitude of avian species I’d spent the last two hours trying desperately to photograph. |

The New York Supreme Court recently ruled that a man shot by a gang member did not have standing to sue the retailer that legally sold the gun. The court has been winding its tortuous way through the process for over a decade. Williams was shot in 2005. Williams v. Beemiller is about injuries sustained from an assault committed by a New York High School gang on an innocent bystander, who was mistaken for a member of an opposition gang. Daniel Williams was shot and injured. High school gang members do not have lots of assets.

It's almost time for Maine's moose hunters to submit their applications for a fall hunting season that could expand for the second year in a row. The deadline to apply to participate in the 2019 moose hunting season is Wednesday. There are typically thousands of more applicants than permits, and the state uses a lottery to determine who will be able to participate.
