In a recent interview with the Washington Post, retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, whose memoir is being released tomorrow, shows why the conflict over the kind of judge a president appoints is so important. President Richard Nixon appointed Stevens, who turned 99 last month, to the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1970 and, five years later, President Gerald Ford appointed him to the Supreme Court. The Senate confirmed him to both judicial positions without any opposition. Stevens is the third longest serving member of the Supreme Court in American history. |

CCI Ammunition is one of the most well-known producers of aluminum-cased cartridges, having popularized this style with their "Blazer" line of ammunition. However, if you are looking for aluminum-cased ammo in 9mm, .40 S&W or .45 ACP, Blazer is hard to beat. The difference between brass vs. aluminum is a common question. The debate over a controversial gun control initiative has led to North County’s own homegrown group of Second Amendment hardliners as the North County Sons and Daughters of Liberty (NCSDL) are working to see resolutions passed in local governments. The group formed following many members attending rallies by Vancouver-based Patriot Prayer, then eventually picking up steam on social media. Their primary rallying cry is opposition to I-1639. |

Some Democrats in the Ohio Legislature say more needs to be done to keep guns out of the hands of children. State Rep. Brigid Kelly (D-Cincinnati) is sponsoring a bill that is on the books in 23 other states. “The purpose of this bill is to keep kids safe and make sure that if there are firearms in a home, on a property that they are locked up and stored appropriately so kids don’t have ready access to them," Kelly says. |

Support for strict gun control measures proposed by fellow Democrats is “almost non-existent,” the leader of Delaware’s Senate said Monday in declaring that the measures will not be coming out of a committee he leads. The statement by Senate President Pro Tem David McBride comes after a committee hearing last week in which critics blasted the proposals as unconstitutional restrictions on gun ownership that would do nothing to address gun crime in Delaware.

It's no surprise that Sturm, Ruger's (NYSE:RGR) reported first-quarter sales tumbled, as the firearms industry remains mired in an unprecedented downturn. Revenue fell 13% to $114 million, while earnings dropped 9% to $0.74 per share. Yet the gunmaker remains financially solid, having no debt and generating some $52 million in free cash flow over the last 12 months. With a lineup of new products -- a key component of Ruger's growth -- being introduced, the company will be ready when the market turns up again. |

When The Wild Bunch mock gunfighter shows begin on the street outside The Irma on June 3, actors will capture the audience’s attention by shooting a shotgun. “A gal will shoot a double-barreled shotgun in the air a couple of times and say, ‘Let’s get this show on the road,’” Kenny Martin, long-time organizer of the western re-enactment. “Boom, boom, and that’s it,” he said. |

Adam Armenta of Verona told his son Riley, 11, he’d likely spend the rest of his life trying to top the large turkey he shot during a Learn-to-Hunt session before the regular season opened in mid-April. Riley, a fifth-grader at Sugar Creek in Verona, was being mentored by Ron Drone, while Adam Armenta, also a novice turkey hunter, was mentored by Bill Compty. Adam Armenta was happy for his son so much so he didn’t mind going home with memories but not a prize. |
