... "That these are all positions our own 'gun control' advocates would like to enact domestic parallels for, there’s one other similarity -- aside from the demonstrable fact that such efforts don't produce their promised results and that determined people will develop workarounds when their incentives become strong enough -- between turbulent Egypt and the increasingly discontented U.S. that seems eerie, particularly by the choice of words used." ... |

... "The effect of such attacks, besides the carnage, is psychological, and when done by terrorists can be motivated by an objective to produce public fear and despair. With the conduct The Mail boys disclosed and with the official reaction to it, it's difficult not to view this as an act of government-sanctioned terrorism, given a pass if not pre-approved, because it serves a desired state end." ... |

... "That the school says 'The pistol course has been offered since 2008 and is popular with the community,' and that 'This class has filled with waiting lists, or been near full since we began offering it' does not factor into Silverstein's and his fellow official hoplophobes’ self-induced case of the vapors. That the neighborhood busybodies don’t want it trumps the fact that other people do, and that it’s none of their damn business doesn’t stop them from trying to derail rational behavior by those who don't share their Orwellian 'Ignorance is Strength' delusions." ... |

"The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence harbors a great deal of hostility toward most American gun owners, but they reserve their greatest fear and loathing for those gun owners to whom they refer as 'insurrectionists.' What's an 'insurrectionist,' you ask? Pretty much anyone who believes that the entire purpose of the Second Amendment is to protect the people's right to the means of defeating tyranny. If you believe that--if you, in other words, agree with Tench Coxe (and a great many other Founding Fathers), you are an 'insurrectionist,' guilty of 'treason,' and deserving of death." ... |

"There is one aspect of the raging controversy around the release by Defense Distributed of designs for 3-D printable 'high capacity' magazines, AR-15 lower receivers, and most famously (or, in some circles, infamously), the 'Liberator' pistol, that has perhaps not received as much attention as it deserves. Congressman Steve Israel's (D-NY) H.R. 1474, would, remember, not only ban printing firearms, receivers and magazines, but also apparently require a federal license of some kind for manufacturing magazines by any process." ... |

As far as I know this is the first gun forum devoted to the senior gun owner. Although anyone is welcome, let’s try to keep it focused on seniors. No suggesting that we sign up for a 3 days 5000 round tactical training course. This is a forum where we can learn from each other and listen to what others like us have to say." ... |

"I am often surprised about how many people carry a semi auto without a spare magazine. The reason most often given is that their gun holds 15, 17 or even 19 rounds so they do not need extra ammo. With seniors it is usually an issue of no place to carry a spare magazine as they can barely fit their LCP’s and NAA mini revolvers into their too tight pants pockets as it is. However they are missing the main reason to carry a spare magazine and it can get them killed." ... |

... "Not too long ago M.D. asked the group if he could get some product reviews, and he had a list with suggestions for review. In the list was the Mini 14, newer style. I got mine about 4 or 5 months ago, and I guess that qualifies as new, or at least the newer style. What’s different from the previous versions? I don’t think any of the internals changed. Really, the difference is in the sights and the barrel. You can tell a new one from the old one because the new one will have a barrel that’s thicker towards the receiver then it tapers in. The old style has a barrel that’s the same length all the way down." ... |

"Many U.S. citizens consider their right to own a gun as basic as their right to eat, vote or go to school. Passions run high about the second amendment and, since the Newtown shootings, has served to stir a national debate about gun control, with good guys and bad guys speaking out on both sides of the equation. Newtown was more than just a national tragedy; it was also an event which polarized the American public about gun safety, child safety and our inalienable rights." ... |
