A far-right party in Hungary said Tuesday it was forming a uniformed “self-defense group” in the spirit of another vigilante group ordered to disband a decade ago after it intimidated Roma residents in the countryside. Laszlo Toroczkai, head of the Our Homeland Movement, said the new National Legion would primarily focus on the “guarding of traditions” and teaching basic military skills. He says it would be available to provide help after natural disasters and to support people facing evictions from their homes.

The palace on the Rue du Marché-aux-Herbes in Luxembourg City is one of three Grand Ducal residences in the country and it presents an impressive appearance. A representative democracy, Luxembourg is the world’s only remaining Grand Duchy and the current reigning constitutional monarch is Grand Duke Henri. When he is in residence at the palace in Luxembourg City, a sentry from the Army guards the main entrance. Although it numbers fewer than 500 members, the Lëtzebuerger Arméi is a modern and well-equipped fighting force that is, to this day, armed with a classic military rifle that dates back to the 1970s.

New Zealand’s prime minister has said she cannot understand America’s failure to ban automatic and semi-automatic guns, despite dozens of mass shootings. Jacinda Ardern told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in unusually blunt language: “Australia experienced a massacre and changed its laws. New Zealand has had its experience and changed its laws. To be honest with you, I don’t understand the United States.”

While reading this book, I found myself at about every third or fourth page exclaiming—“I never knew that!” Not only does John D. McAulay thoroughly cover the subject of U.S. naval small arms in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, he also brings a wealth of detail about the time period to the story, and expertly puts these firearms into their historical context. For example, many readers may not be aware of the political and diplomatic reasons for the Navy to “land the landing force” around the world in the period between the Civil War and World War I, but McAulay showcases each of them, and uses the story as the backdrop to discuss the small arms that sailors and Marines carried ashore.

Guns Ownership is a Dangerous Virtue.. and We Need to Defend It

Free speech is dangerous. The right to petition our government and to own guns is dangerous. Those rights are particularly threatening to entrenched politicians and the special interest they represent. Besides being dangerous, those rights are also the safest way to organize a society.

It is time we defended them, not because they are safe, but because they are virtues.

Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens is at it again with a new book in which he evidently revives his philosophical battle against the Second Amendment, as detailed in reviews appearing in the New York Times and Washington Post.

The new 531-page book—his third since retiring in 2010 to be replaced by Elena Kagan—provides another opportunity in which he reiterates his long-held argument that the high court’s 2008 ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller was “Unquestionably the most clearly incorrect decision that the Court announced during my tenure on the bench,” as quoted by the Washington Post.

A report published in the New York Times claims that Baltimore’s war on guns is almost exclusively conducted in black neighborhoods. The report, written by Baynard Woods and Brandon Soderberg, says: “The war on guns, like the war on drugs, is primarily waged on poor people by small operations units that drive around in unmarked cars looking for trouble.” And the “poor people” being targeted in Baltimore are black people.

Flint remains one of the most dangerous cities in the United States, according to data reported to the FBI, but groups are working together to create change.

Guns Down America, a gun control advocacy group, hosted a town hall at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Flint.

The organization made the stop during a 20-city tour that began in April. Its start coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting.

Igor Volsky, executive director of Guns Down, said his organization would like to see a reduction in guns and make them harder to acquire.

“There is no question that the right to keep and bear arms extends outside the home,” attorneys Alan Beck and Stephen Stamboulieh argue in a friend of the court brief filed Tuesday in the Supreme Court. “To argue otherwise is to render the phrase ‘bear arms’ superfluous within the Second Amendment.” The case is New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. City of New York, challenging restrictions on transporting licensed firearms outside the home. Beck and Stamboulieh represent George Young in his complaint against the State of Hawaii for denying him a carry permit.

The debate over gun control, gun violence and gun rights refers repeatedly to the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights. While we keep arguing over and over on this controversial issue, no action has been taken to stop the killing of innocent people and children by a gunman. The mass shooting has been recorded in any place and anywhere in the United States. It is unequaled the number of mass domestic violence we experience nowadays in the United States. No one is safe regardless of where you are.

Minnesota House and Senate negotiators failed to agree on stronger gun control laws Tuesday, while Gov. Tim Walz and top legislative leaders met once again to try to bridge the deep divisions on taxes and spending that are holding up a budget deal. The meeting of the conference committee on the main public safety budget bill marked the first time this session that senators had a chance in an official forum to debate a pair of gun control proposals that passed the Democratic-controlled House but didn't get a hearing in the Republican-controlled Senate. Both proposals failed on 5-5 party line votes, meaning they didn't make it into the broader bill.

Last week, conservatives once again cried “bias” after Facebook banned a spate of popular fringe pundits and conspiracy theorists. Meanwhile, the week’s most important content moderation story went, for the most part, unnoticed. Had conservatives paid more attention to the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s ruling in Daniel v. Armslist, they might feel differently about the utility of platform intermediary liability protections like Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, a bedrock indemnity that prevents internet platforms from liability for user behavior.

House lawmakers are scheduled to vote Wednesday on a bill requiring a 24-hour waiting period for handgun purchases. S. 169 passed the Senate overwhelmingly in March. Backers called it an effort to provide a 'cooling off' period for Vermonters in crisis in an effort to reduce suicide. But the bill saw no action in the House until the Judiciary Committee voted 7-4 to recommend passage late Monday.

Parents will have to lock up their guns or face a felony if a new bill becomes law in Ohio. Two Tri-State lawmakers say they're introducing common-sense gun legislation, but some gun advocates disagree. The two Democratic lawmakers say their proposed law could help prevent the next school shooting, but those on the other side say a new law is not necessary. Instead, some gun advocates say educating your kids about firearms would be a better solution.

Illinois State Police admitted to wrongly issuing the Aurora shooter a FOID card despite a felony conviction for aggravated assault.

The National Rifle Association paid powerhouse Tallahassee lobbyist Marion Hammer more than a quarter million dollars last year in the wake of the Parkland school massacre, according to an internal NRA document obtained by Florida Bulldog. But you won’t find that payment disclosed on quarterly compensation reports that lobbying firms and contract lobbyists are required to file with the Florida Senate. Hammer, both an NRA board member and a Florida registered NRA lobbyist, hasn’t filed any compensation reports there since at least 2007, state records show.

A Look Back at the Ruger Single-Six Revolver

Old Bill Ruger was a cagey guy with a hand—and heart—sensitive to the pulse of shooters. During the early post-World War II years Colt had decided to finally move on from single-action revolvers. After all, its Model 1911A1 had been the handgun of choice during the worldwide dustup, and double-action revolvers largely ruled the law-enforcement community. Only a relative handful of rank, old cowboy types still clung to the thumb-buster, and most of them couldn’t scrape together enough cash to buy a new gun. Besides, the tooling to build single-action revolvers was worn out and obsolete. It made absolutely no business sense whatsoever to continue to make single-action revolvers.
