I was once perusing my local gun forum and someone posted a question, “Which is better for big game hunting in North America? 300 Win Mag or 300 WSM?” The users who answered all began debating differences in ballistics, case capacity, terminal performance, and ammo selection. |

Many gun experts totally dismiss the viability of the .380 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) cartridge AKA 9x17mm, 9mm Short, 9mm Corto, 9mm Kurz, as a viable self-defense cartridge, while other experts, such as Massad F. Ayoob of the Lethal Force Institute and John S. Farnam of Defensive Training Solutions consider the caliber to be marginal, the absolute bare minimum acceptable defense caliber. |

When people think of the Soviet 7.62x39mm cartridge, they normally associate it with Russian guns like the SKS and the AK-47, not the Ruger American Rifle. And for good reason – the Russians churned out millions of the intermediate-power cartridges from the 1940s and continue to make them today. |

There’s an urgent search to get stolen guns off the streets. Thieves broke into a Mississippi gun shop, getting their hands on loads of firearms. It was all done in less than 3-minutes early Wednesday morning on May 10. When FOX13 crews went inside the store several glass casings remained empty, a few shards of glass still on the floor as owners contemplated what to do next. |

An elderly Arizona man was found with “serious and bleeding” face injuries after an altercation with his stepson that resulted in justifiable homicide. Last month, Arizona police responded to a 911 call from 74-year-old Stan French who explained that he had shot his stepson in self defense. French, who had an order of protection against his stepson, was greeted at his home by 40-year-old Derek Christopher Farar. Farar violated his order and assaulted French. From there, the two’s physical altercation escalated until French feared for his life and shot Farar with his handgun. |

Springfield Armory is trying something new when it comes to the ever-growing micro 9 market: making them suppressor ready. The company earlier this month debuted a $199 threaded barrel kit for the standard 3-inch barreled Hellcat, including both a 3.8-inch hammer-forged barrel and a self-indexing compensator as well as a thread protector. Drop-in with no gunsmithing needed, it includes standard 1/2x28 pattern muzzle threads. |

We find ourselves living in a highly consequential time for the legal clarification of the 2nd Amendment. Extremely aggressive, wide-ranging bans of semi-automatic firearms have been enacted in various parts of the country, drawing legal challenges. While the ultimate resolution of these challenges is unknowable, many observers believe the Supreme Court will eventually arrive at a decision prohibiting the wholesale banning of semi-automatic firearms. Those who dream of eliminating all private gun ownership in the United States face the prospect of a devastating legal defeat. |

Turkish firearms manufacturer Tisas has been cranking out budget-friendly 1911s for several years, but perhaps none comes as close to the classic U.S. military service pistol as the company’s affordable Model 1911 A1 U.S. Army. Imported to the states under the SDS Imports banner, this GI-style 1911 hosts only the most basic of sights while still sporting Series 70 internals and nicely textured grip panels made from Turkish walnut. It’s a close – though not perfect – clone of John Moses Browning’s ingenious design. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Those, who have the command of the arms in a country are masters of the state, and have it in their power to make what revolutions they please. [Thus,] there is no end to observations on the difference between the measures likely to be pursued by a minister backed by a standing army, and those of a court awed by the fear of an armed people. — Aristotle, as quoted by John Trenchard and Water Moyle, An Argument Shewing, That a Standing Army Is Inconsistent with a Free Government, and Absolutely Destructive to the Constitution of the English Monarchy [London, 1697]. |
