FULL TEXT BELOW:
A bizarre shooting incident resulted in a school lock down Monday in Chesapeake.
Two Indian River High School students reported seeing a man firing a rifle or long gun away from the school.
According to a school official, the students say it's possible the man was shooting at ducks.
A youth services officer responded to the lake, but the man had left the property.
The lock down lasted 45 minutes until the school was secured.
Two other schools were in lock down also, and notes were sent home to parents. |

A New Haven police detective has been reprimanded after her service pistol -- which she had lost -- was used in a December shooting.
Detective Lynn Meekins lost the gun in December, and three days later it was used to shoot a man inside a city apartment building.
The gun was recovered, and 20-year-old Skyler Smith of New Haven is charged with stealing it. He has not been charged in the shooting. |

Springfield gun-maker Smith and Wesson has received an order from the California Highway Patrol for 97-hundred new pistols.
Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
The pistols will be shipped over an 18-month period starting in June.
Each officer will receive a new 4006 T-S-W pistol to replace early-model pistols used for 16 years.
The order will also provide inventory for future California Highway Patrol officers. |
