"It seems Mr. James Madison had quite a different view concerning our rights than that held by the politicians and government officials of today. So much so, that it is hard to reconcile his views, as the main author of the Bill of Rights. With the views commonly held today by our supposed representatives. An alarming discrepancy to say the least. But, of course, that is just my opinion. If you take a look at the following debate, think that you will probably arrive at the same conclusion; ..." ...

"Many gun owners would be shocked to learn that Wayne LaPierre, the NRA Executive Vice-President, made $633,823 in salary, plus another $258,343 in benefits in 2004 according to the NRA's 990 form ( http://gunguys.com/lapierresalary.pdf )."

"According to Gun Guys.com ( http://www.gunguys.com ) it is possible that LaPierre's total compensation package from the NRA for 2005 exceeded $1 million though the 2005 tax reports are not yet available. In fact, it takes more than 35,000 NRA membership renewals (at $25 a piece) just to cover LaPierre's 2004 compensation package." ...

A bizarre shooting incident resulted in a school lock down Monday in Chesapeake.

Two Indian River High School students reported seeing a man firing a rifle or long gun away from the school.

According to a school official, the students say it's possible the man was shooting at ducks.

A youth services officer responded to the lake, but the man had left the property.

The lock down lasted 45 minutes until the school was secured.

Two other schools were in lock down also, and notes were sent home to parents.

"Prime Minister Stephen Harper will have a tough time convincing Canadians it's time to completely scrap the country's expensive gun registry program, a new opinion poll suggests."

"The Ipsos Reid survey ... indicates two out of three Canadians believe the government should revamp the gun registry system." ...

"'There's nothing ambiguous about this,' said John Wright, senior vice-president at Ipsos Reid.

"The concept of a gun registry has taken root across the country. There's a majority, 67 per cent, that's not a small majority, who believe that Stephen Harper shouldn't be doing away with all gun registries." [emphasis added]

KABA Note: Then the poll is meaningless, because Mr. Harper is talking about scrapping the long gun registry, not the 28 year old handgun registry.

"An undersized black bear chased, caught and mauled a bicycle rider on a mountain trail in Canada's oldest and most popular national park, refused to leave the area and was shot and killed, a warden said."

"The biker, Greg Flaaten, 41, a Web administrator for the town of Banff, was being treated for severe arm injuries at Foothills Hospital in Calgary following the attack, and reconstructive surgery in the biceps and triceps area was scheduled Monday." ...

"A predatory bear evidently ran down and attacked Flaaten on Friday evening along the heavily wooded Hoodoos-Bow River Trail through the park east of the town, he said." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: And the cyclist was defenseless because Canada banned handgun carry in 1930.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As an individual, I believe, very strongly, that handguns should be banned and that there should be stringent, effective control of other firearms. However, as a judge, I know full well that the question of whether handguns can be sold is a political one, not an issue of products liability law, and that this is a matter for the legislatures, not the courts. The unconventional theories advanced in this case (and others) are totally without merit, a misuse of products liability laws. Judge Buchmeyer, Patterson v. Gesellschaft, 1206 F.Supp. 1206, 1216 (N.D. Tex. 1985)
