"Stanley Fish, professor of (in?)humanities and law, wrote an op-ed for the New York Times Monday speculating that perhaps the NRA is 'un-American.' Not all NRA members, mind you--not the recreational shooters, or those who believe that the Second Amendment protects the right of self-defense (although Fish describes himself as 'deeply unpersuaded' by that argument). So to whom does he refer? Only the 'militant' members, and most of the leadership. Let's have him explain who the 'militants' are:" ...

... "The CDC reports that for 2010 (the latest year available), one single six-year old died from a gunshot. For all children younger than 10, there were 36 accidental gun deaths, and that is out of 41 million children. Perhaps most important, about two-thirds of these accidental gun deaths involving young children are not shots fired by other little kids but rather by adult males with criminal backgrounds. In other words, unless you send your child to play at a criminal’s home, she is exceedingly unlikely to get shot." ...

"Gun control activists do not want to confiscate our guns. Really. Just trust them about it. They don’t. Instead, they just want to pass simple, common sense and reasonable gun laws that have nothing to do with confiscating lawfully owned property. Trust them. They really, really don’t want to take our guns. Really." ...

"Today’s Seattle Times reports that the National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) wants to ratchet down on the legal limit for blood alcohol to reduce the number of fatal traffic accidents involving drunk drivers, leading some gun rights advocates to wonder why gun crime is treated differently."

"People who violate the drunk driving law are punished individually, but when someone commits a crime with a firearm, gun prohibitionists want to ban firearms. If the logic of self-appointed 'gun safety' advocates were applied to drunks who kill, then cars would be banned, along with quart bottles of whiskey, gallons of wine and cases of beer, gun activists suggest." ...

"By now, you have probably heard about the Liberator, a 3D printed plastic gun designed, assembled, and test-fired by Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed. Is it legal?"

"Last week, the State Department’s arms export office demanded that Defense Distributed remove CAD files for the Liberator from its website. Defense Distributed complied with the takedown letter right away, despite strong language on its website promising it would be 'a home for fugitive information' and 'No object file will be censored unless it is malicious software.' Predictably, it didn’t take long for the CAD files to make their way to BitTorrent, where they’ll be available forever." ...

"The world’s first entirely 3D-printed gun has been manufactured, proven to work and immediately declared verboten by your government. Just after the plans for the weapon were seized by the feds, the usual rationalizing of government overreach was spewed by the State Department. Cody Wilson, who owns the company that manufactured the weapon, says he was asked by the U.S. Department of Trade Defense Controls to pull the files – pending their determination of whether they actually have the power to control the information. "Colt introduced the now-iconic Mustang pocket pistol in 1983. Three years later the Connecticut-based manufacturer introduced a PocketLite version. And now that Ruger’s sold twenty trillion LCPs (and LC9s) Colt’s rolling out their polymer Mustang XSP. 'The new XSP takes the best of its predecessor models and adds features that will make it appealing to an even wider customer base,' Colt Marketing Veep Joyce Rubino proclaims in her presser. "Ages ago, when TTAG was still in its infancy, RF reviewed the modernized and shiny Charter Arms Undercover .38 Revolver. I’ve tried a couple of the newer .38 snubbies out there, and I absolutely hated the way the big, over-molded rubber grips made it look like I was smuggling a pineapple in my pants whenever I carried them. So when I ran across this very lightly used classic version in a local gun shop, with thinner wood grips and a more 1920′s look to it, I had to try it out for myself. "We just looked at some fine choices of 5.56 ammunition, and to balance it out I think it’s a good idea to do some .308 ammo as well. With the ammo shortage hitting all the major calibers, the local shelves are starting to re-fill and this time there’s nothing available except some brands that either I’ve never heard of or don’t usually associate with quality. Sure there’s a flashlight sitting in a charger behind the front right (AKA my) seat anyway, but it’s massive and weighs a ton. My Defender, with its variable output, allows me to either light up the scene of a car accident or check a patient’s pupils with a single flashlight. That versatility has also earned it a spot as an every day carry item, giving me a non-lethal option when dealing with bad guys (i.e., blinding them).  QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Those, who have the command of the arms in a country are masters of the state, and have it in their power to make what revolutions they please. [Thus,] there is no end to observations on the difference between the measures likely to be pursued by a minister backed by a standing army, and those of a court awed by the fear of an armed people. — Aristotle, as quoted by John Trenchard and Water Moyle, An Argument Shewing, That a Standing Army Is Inconsistent with a Free Government, and Absolutely Destructive to the Constitution of the English Monarchy [London, 1697].
