The accused 'peach cobbler shooter' is speaking out after a squabble over the dessert led to a shooting. WREG was first to tell you about the incident left one man recovering from a gunshot wound and another man behind bars facing attempted murder charges all because of an argument over cobbler. Stanley Woodson says the alleged victim, Logan Novascone, didn't tell the whole story when he said Woodson was mad his cobbler didn't have more peaches in it. Now, he's speaking to WREG to share his side of the story.

A former Kent State University student and her rifle went viral after graduation photos showcased an AR-15 strapped to her back while walking through campus, but the school has no issue with her shot thanks to a well-timed loophole. The Blast spoke with Kaitlin Bennett, who commemorated her graduation at KSU over the weekend with a photo shoot highlighting her firepower. She took major backlash online, including death threats from people who thought the picture was in incredibly poor taste. Bennett says she took the pics “Simply because I am so passionate about the second amendment and gun rights.” |

Officials in a Maine town say a man who had 17 guns and 45,000 rounds of ammunition stolen in a burglary is offering a reward for their return. Milbridge Police Chief Lewis Pinkham says the burglary occurred sometime between when the man left for the winter in November and last month, when he returned to discover evidence of a window break-in. The Bangor Daily News reports the victim is offering a $1,000 reward. |

A convicted felon was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for stealing over 100 guns from a cargo train that was parked overnight on the city’s South Side. On April 12, 2015, 47-year-old Alexander Peebles and seven other men burglarized the train while it was parked in an Avalon Park neighborhood railyard, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois. The train was traveling from a Ruger factory in New Hampshire to Spokane, Washington. |

The vast majority of Michigan school staff members do not want to see educators given guns in an effort to deter school shootings, a new poll released by the Michigan Education Association has found. The survey, which polled 1,005 public school employees who are MEA members, found 71 percent oppose allowing school employees to carry concealed guns in schools, and 67 percent say allowing school personnel to carry firearms would be "ineffective at preventing gun violence in schools." |

A newly-rekindled fight over guns and the Second Amendment within the outdoors, hunting and shooting community has erupted, and the timing – with a critical midterm election just over the horizon – is curious.
Hostilities between “hunters” and “gun rights activists” were rekindled by a recent open letter in the Huffington Post published under the byline of Daniel Ashe, who served as USFWS Director in the Obama administration from February, 2011 to January 2017, when Donald Trump moved into the Oval Office. This “Open Letter from Hunters about Gun Reform” seems almost designed to create a chasm among shooters and hunters, who ought to be on the same side in the fight to protect Second Amendment rights. |

Saying there was no evidence of past aggression or statements threatening harm, a Horry County judge rejected a murder suspect's claims of "Stand Your Ground" for when he shot and killed his nephew. On Tuesday, Judge Larry Hyman issued his ruling denying Roger Grate's request for Stand Your Ground protections related to the slaying of Darrell Doctor on Christmas in 2016. "By all testimony, he was shot because he stuck his hand in his pocket,” Hyman said. |

A virtual firearm training facility where participants of all skill levels can train with real firearms plans to open Aug. 8 at 13201 RM 620, Austin. Valor Defense Academy will house multiple 12-by-7-foot video screens that simulate various scenarios in which a person may need tactical self-defense knowledge. Participants use real firearms without ammunition that are rigged to replicate the same recoil a person would feel when firing a firearm with ammunition, owner Daisy Angel said.

A Hatfield Township man was acquitted by a jury of all assault-related charges in connection with a 2016 domestic disturbance during which his onetime girlfriend claimed he slashed her in the neck and hands with a knife. After a five-day trial, the Montgomery County jury acquitted Jamie Richard Kennedy, 45, of charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and possessing an instrument of crime in connection with the May 13, 2016, disturbance at his former apartment in the 100 block of Penn Street.

We don’t have a final tally of how many of the record-breaking 87,000+ members in attendance at the 2018 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits at Dallas, Texas, were women, but there is no denying that the female impact and commitment to NRA’s fight for freedom was demonstrable. Whether through participation in target shooting, competitive shooting, hunting or personal protection—or by attending the Dallas NRA show—women continue to flex their Second Amendment muscles.

A Louisiana Senate Judiciary B Committee voted 3-2 Tuesday (May 15) for a measure to clarify that people with concealed weapons permits can carry guns up to a school or university property line, but not actually on campus. The proposal is a substitute for House Bill 602, sponsored by Rep. Blake Miguez, R-Erath, that would have allowed people with concealed weapon permits to carry guns into schools and universities, both public and private. That measure passed the House but faced major opposition, particularly from universities, who threatened to derail it in the Senate. |

The Columbus City Council has approved new laws aimed at reducing violence in Ohio's capital city. The council voted 6-0 on Monday to ban bump stocks in the city; prohibit people from brandishing imitation firearms like Airsoft guns in public while prohibiting sales of imitation guns to minors; allow the city to shut down businesses where violent crime has occurred; and include people who are dating to victims and suspects of domestic violence. |
