Supporters said they were confident the McCain-Lieberman bill would draw enough Democratic and Republican lawmakers this year to turn it into law.

President Bush favors such legislation, but said he wants instant background checks to avoid a waiting period.

Each has agreed to pay fines of $500 or less, and prosecutors have agreed not to seek jail time or probation for any of the defendants.

"Handguns are inherently dangerous." -- Opinion of the 'San Jose Mercury News'

"That is the gist of a licensing bill, AB35, sponsored by Assemblyman Kevin Shelley (D-San Francisco), and its companion Senate bill, SB52. It would treat handguns for what they are: inherently dangerous consumer products."

S.261 (and companion bill H.3010) were introduced at the urging of GrassRoots South Carolina, your state's premier no-compromise state-level grassroots gun lobby. Now, S.261 stands poised to receive a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Winning that vote would send the bill to the full Senate for passage. S.261 as amended is expected to make the following changes to the CWP law: (SEE LINK!)

NV SB172 Allows Multiple Concealed Weapons To Permit Holders

The (Nevada) Assembly on Monday approved 32-8 a bill to let those with concealed weapons permits carry as many guns as they want.

Assembly Minority Leader Lynn Hettrick (R-Gardnerville), contended that only law-abiding citizens will secure the permits to carry multiple concealed weapons. He maintained they have a constitutional right to have those weapons. Criminals will do as they wish, regardless of any law, he said. "A deranged person never will be stopped by a piece of paper," said Assemblyman Bernie Anderson (D-Sparks).

Assemblyman Morse Arberry (D-N.LasVegas), spoke against Senate Bill 172, saying it would lead to black men being shot by police. Arberry said police "aren't going to ask for papers" or concealed weapons permits when they see young black men with five guns.

KABA NOTE: If the police see the guns, they aren't concealed, are they? (DUH)

Jeff Elkins: "MSNBC, in its documentary The .50-caliber militia has been kind enough to reveal the true nature of one of the state’s most noxious congresspersons: Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA)... Waxman wants to reclassify all .50 caliber rifles as either destructive devices or Class III weapons, thus making them effectively unavailable to commoners. Actually, what Waxman really wants is to take away all your guns… so he can enslave you – or kill you."

One of the world's leading advocates for non-violent conflict resolution told students it would be "reasonable for you to shoot back with your own gun" if someone were trying to kill you.

The Pope has said the same thing.

Why don't American "liberals" (certainly not liberty advocates) get it?

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Some of the worst abuses of government force in recent years were precipitated by technical and victimless gun-law violations. For example, the BATF claimed that the Branch Davidians possessed machine guns without paying the required federal tax and filling in the proper registration forms. So a tax case worth less than $10,000 led to a 76-man helicopter, machine gun, and grenade assault on a home in which 2/3 of the occupants were women and children. — Dave Kopel and Dr. Michael S.
