"There has been no repeat of the September 11 hijackings in the United States...yet."
"If the unpleasant thought of hijacking becomes reality, the sad fact is that the hijackers might very well succeed again, despite the fact that Congress passed legislation in 2002 requiring the newly formed Transportation Security Administration to implement a program to arm pilots."
" 'The armed pilot is the first line of deterrence, and the last line of defense against terrorist attacks on airliners in flight,' explains Captain David Mackett, the president of the Airline Pilots Security Alliance."
"Mackett explains that only a small percentage of flights are covered by Federal Air Marshals and that expanding the FAM program to cover all commercial flights would be very costly to taxpayers."

"Quick quiz. What looks like a gun but isn't a gun but can be just as deadly?"
"Answer: A replica gun, usually a BB gun or a pellet gun that looks like the real thing."
"Why deadly?"
"Because, with so many real guns on the streets, a police officer might make a fatal mistake when encountering someone holding a realistic imitation." ...
"Realistic-looking toys are supposed to be sold with orange tips so they do not unnecessarily frighten anyone." ...
"Nationwide, police have documented numerous cases of people brandishing BB guns or so-called airsoft guns within their presence. Airsoft guns use air pressure to fire plastic pellets while BB guns fire metal pellets." |

"Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 is without doubt the most flaming-hot ticket at the Cannes film festival. And with good reason: Moore hopes that it will bring down the US government."
"The American film-maker has hitherto kept a tight lid on the contents of the documentary, saying only that it includes evidence of alleged links between the Bush and Bin Laden families. However, in two appearances in Cannes at the weekend before its premiere today, he revealed that the movie contains shocking footage from Iraq."
------- Considering his past record of lying and misleading in "Bowling for Columbine," don't expect this documentary to be factual. |

"If we are indeed supposed to learn from the past, then damn it -- LET'S LEARN. The same people that told me I should vote for Mr. Bush because Mr. Gore would surely take us down the road of larger federal budgets bolstered by excessive spending, are now telling me we should back the Democratic nominee because outrageous federal budgets and out-of-control spending have put us in debt that will consume a portion of our grandchildren's earnings as they continue footing our bills long after we are gone."

A Bill that could keep guns out of the hands of some mental patients may be signed into law today.
Governor Riley could sign a Bill to keep guns away from some mental patients with a history of violence. The shooting deaths of two Athens police officers prompted the change.
Farron Barksdale, who has a history of mental problems, is accused of killing them.
Barksdale bought an assault rifle last year. Under the new law, anyone who had been involuntarily committed would be added to a gun database. Gun shop owners would screen the data before selling a gun.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Let us contemplate our forefathers, and posterity, and resolve to maintain the rights bequeathed to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance. Let us remember that `if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.' It is a very serious consideration...that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event." --Samuel Adams, speech in Boston, 1771 |
