What did they propose to do with these weapons? Shoot the virus? Shoot the governor? Shoot themselves in the foot?
They didn’t seem to have a plan. They were there to rail against Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s pandemic restrictions, though hers are not so different from those in other states, even those run by Republican governors. They howled about “tyranny” even though the country is now run by the man they helped elect. They fretted about losing their Second Amendment rights even as they carried guns, legally under Michigan law, into the Capitol. They complained about runaway government spending and money-printing even though Trump and the GOP have championed it. |

A firearm range operator in Illinois says if the industry doesn’t get clarity on whether it can open, he's preparing to sue.
Eric Callis, president of Aurora Sportsmen’s Club in Waterman, said he was told by state officials his operations couldn’t continue because there’s no firearms retail component. They’ve been closed to members since April 10 and their website has events scheduled for May 2. |

In Michigan alone, as of Thursday, there were 41,379 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and it had killed 3,789 people. The state reports that cases are doubling in Western and Northern Michigan every six days, or faster. Yet as stay-at-home orders issued by Governor Gretchen Whitmer were set to expire Thursday night, hundreds of people demonstrated inside and outside the Lansing statehouse, many with firearms in tow. Whitmer, who had ignored an earlier April protest (and President Trump’s “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!” tweet) to stay steadfast on her strict orders, was not in sight, but the Michigan Legislature was in session. Using their unmasked mouths and their guns, the demonstrators sought to return things back to “normal.” |

The Supreme Court should and will take a Second Amendment case very soon, and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D., R.I.) won’t be happy. When Whitehouse basically threatened the Supreme Court over a recent Second Amendment case, perhaps he didn’t realize that he could get what he wanted and still lose the fight. This week, although the Court dismissed as moot the case that had Whitehouse in a tizzy, the Court is reviewing a slew of Second Amendment petitions that he’ll like even less. |

About 6:45 p.m. an assailant ran past the fireman and several of his friends who about talking near an alley or gangway and fired thirteen times at them near the 9900 block of South Yale Avenue in the Fernwood neighborhood, Langford and police said.
After bullets ripped through the fireman’s ankle, buttocks and right leg, he returned fire in self-defense, but didn’t hit anyone, police said. He was not the intended target.
Patrol officers from the 22nd District who rushed to the scene spotted a suspect and gave chase on foot, eventually taking a 25-year-old man into custody.
Officers retrieved the alleged gunman’s coat and gun in a garbage can near the shooting scene. |

Chief Justice Roberts has drawn a sharp rebuke for condoning the Supreme Court majority’s April 27 decision refusing to take up a Second Amendment case. But the critique of the decision as politically motivated is deeply misguided — and potentially harmful — to the perceived legitimacy of the federal bench and the rule of law itself. The decision was not an “enormous abdication” of judicial prerogative, as some have irresponsibly claimed but, rather, a routine and proper refusal to take up an issue that had been rendered moot. |

And indeed, after Monday’s ruling came down, no fewer than 10 Second Amendment cases vying for consideration were distributed for the Court’s May 1 conference, during which the justices vote on whether to add to their October 2020 term docket. Some of those cases raise bigger issues than the ones raised by the New York one, like the constitutionality of bans on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, or restrictions on carrying handguns in public. |

It happens at least once a year at the Michigan Capitol: Armed demonstrators openly carry firearms into the historic building and watch the Legislature from galleries overlooking the state House and Senate chambers.
There are no metal detectors, no weapon checks and no policy to prohibit loaded weapons.
But longtime observers say the scene that unfolded Thursday at the Michigan Capitol — where riled protesters armed with rifles heckled lawmakers from the spectator gallery and shouted at police, garnering national attention — was far different than annual Second Amendment rallies, where gun activists celebrate their rights. |

This week, NRA joined the Gun Owners’ Action League and filed an Amicus Brief in support of federal court action taken in response to Gov. Baker’s decision to close gun shops in Massachusetts.
Governor Baker’s administration has used the COVID-19 pandemic as a means to brazenly threaten our Second Amendment rights. On March 23rd, Gov.Baker issued COVID-19 Order. No. 13 which failed to designate gun shops as “Essential Businesses.” On March 31st, Gov. Baker issued COVID-19 Order No. 21, which designated gun shops as “Essential Businesses.” |

After a legal challenge before federal courts, firearm retailers across New Mexico will be able to resume sales early in May as the state continues with plans to reopen amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, made the announcement amid other actions to begin economic recovery.
"Federally licensed firearm retailers may open by appointment only as needed conduct background checks and to allow individuals to take possession of firearms ordered online," Grisham's office said in a statement on Thursday. |

However, even an American public that has long been aware of his shortcomings was taken aback in early March when the former vice president launched an unhinged attack on a pro-Second Amendment autoworker. |
