"The state Senate Judiciary Committee ignored the voice of prosecutors, and reason, and approved a package of bills that would essentially sanction fatal shootings of intruders into homes or occupied vehicles."

"These bills are not only dangerous but unnecessary. Courts have already given broad latitude to people defending themselves in their homes or vehicles. Citizens legally possessing a gun have the right to self-defense, including the use of deadly force, if they have an honest and reasonable belief that they're in danger of death, serious injury or sexual assault. That right is maintained even if the belief turns out to be wrong." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

I just wanted to ask why our paper rarely, if ever, runs anything about the subject of the Second Amendment. Even if someone chooses not to keep and bear arms, it is still one of the pillars of our republic. Just as you cannot take away a free press, so it is with any and all of our rights.

I only read this paper because I like to keep up on the spin going on in this conservative town.

And that brings me to another subject -- the illegals who are so glorified by this paper. That's one for another time.

"If New Jersey were an island, the tough gun-control laws it has enacted to protect its citizens would be far more effective. But New Jersey is one of 50 states among which traffic freely flows, and its immediate neighbor on the west is Pennsylvania, where gun laws are far less restrictive. Therein lies a large part of the problem."

KABA Note: Like England?

"Many of the guns used to shoot or threaten people in New Jersey are bought in Pennsylvania, in some cases by 'straw purchasers' ... For instance, in Camden County, 36 percent of the 252 traceable guns recovered in 2003 and 2004 came from Pennsylvania. Others originate in the South and other regions with lax gun laws." ...
