Commonly referred to as “non-U.S.” ammunition (due to the U.S. leaning heavily toward Boxer-primed ammo), Berdan primers are often used in other countries around the world. But that doesn't take away from their significance within the ammo industry. Ironically, Berdan bullet primers were created by an American named Hiram Berdan (while Boxer primers were created by Englishman Edward Boxer.) It's unclear as to why the use of these primers is inverted, however, we do know what distinguishes each type as its own. |

A number of audible sounds in the shooting world are undeniably associated with different kinds of guns. Those sounds, when heard, are immediately recognized by those of knowledge within the shooter realm. When a pump shotgun’s slide is racked, it gains everybody’s instant attention. The same can be said for the clam shake slam of the action on a Garand M-1 Rifle. How about the closing slide on a 1911 pistol? A classic lever action rifle emits a sound known by any shooter.

Oregon gun owners were relieved when the onerous and multi-faceted Senate Bill 978 died several days ago in Salem, but it may only be a temporary reprieve, because the legislation is likely to be resurrected in 2020, according to the Salem Statesman-Journal.
And in the third paragraph of that story, a remark by Hilary Uhlig with Moms Demand Action in Oregon probably told Beaver State gun rights activists more about the gun prohibition lobby than anti-gunners would want to telegraph. |

A common trick of big-government loving politicians is to give legislation names so appealing that it seems no reasonable person could oppose it. The truth is, the more unobjectionable the title, the more objectionable the content. Two well-known examples are the “PATRIOT Act” and the “Access to Affordable and Quality Care Act.” |

A new article by National Public Radio’s Supreme Court reporter offers yet another instance of NPR’s left-leaning bias. NPR operates on federal funds and other public subsidies. So it has a special obligation to make sure its news reporting is balanced. But Nina Totenberg’s report of her interview of former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens is anything but balanced. |

As a series of storms moved across Chicago, at least 15 people were wounded —four of them fatally— in shootings within city limits over the weekend, including a 19-year-old man who was killed early Monday in West Town. Cortney Lamonte Foy was getting picked up about 1 a.m. in the first block of North Hermitage Avenue and was about to get in the vehicle when he was shot in the back, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. His friends took him to Rush University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He lived in Joliet. |

A federal prosecutor on Monday said that authorities have recovered only 73 of the 654 guns stolen from a UPS facility in Springfield two years ago. In October 2017, investigators say a group of men from Texas infiltrated the UPS facility on North Le Compte Road and maneuvered several trailers around the lot until they could access one bound for Bass Pro Shops. From that trailer, the men stole 600 Beretta .380-caliber handguns and 54 Beretta 12-gauge shotgun. |

Back when our grandparents went shopping for firearms, they were greeted by rifle racks filled with fine blued steels and handcrafted hardwood stocks. Prior to World War II, a rifle shipped with a wooden stock. But just as every other facet of the shooting sports has been affected by technological advances, rifle stocks too have continued to change and evolve with the introduction of new materials and manufacturing processes. Today you'll find rifles outfitted with shock-resistant polymers, multi-layered composites and milled-metallic chassis systems standing right alongside the natural hardwood models. |

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Native American rights in a 5-4 decision in a case out of Wyoming. Justice Neil Gorsuch, the only Westerner on the court, provided the decisive vote in this case, showing himself again to be sensitive to Native American rights. The court held that hunting rights for the Crow tribe under a 19th-century treaty did not expire when Wyoming became a state. This case centered on a member of the tribe, Clayvin Herrera, who faced charges for off-season hunting in Bighorn National Forest in Wyoming. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Let us contemplate our forefathers, and posterity, and resolve to maintain the rights bequeathed to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance. Let us remember that `if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.' It is a very serious consideration...that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event." --Samuel Adams, speech in Boston, 1771 |
