"I've said it before and I'll say it again. You don't solve the problem of armed robbers and gun killers by taking away their victims' right to be armed against them. Washington, DC Mayor Anthony Williams' press secretary Tony Bullock says: 'The last thing this city needs is more guns.' Allowing honest citizens to be armed will have a 'chilling effect' on crime. Wherever it has been tried, arming innocent people so that criminals don't know when they approach a potential victim whether or not that person will be armed and well able to blow them away makes many criminals go into other areas of crime where they don't stand a chance of being shot themselves. They're basically cowards who are only 'big stuff' if they're armed and their victims aren't. Yes, we do need more guns on the streets; in the hands of honest people who can shoot the criminals instead of letting the criminals shoot them. The number of guns out there is not the problem. The problem is whose hands the guns are in, and whose hands do not hold guns."

"Dr. Martin Rosenberg, my high school English teacher, having had it with my classroom antics whilst he drilled us in English grammar, told me, 'Williams, teaching you this material is like casting pearls before the swine.' That was in 1952 before everyone became concerned about self-esteem, but it was precisely the kind of dressing down that I needed to challenge me and turn my high school academic performance around. Two years later, it was Dr. Rosenberg who proudly coached me with my salutatorian address for our graduation ceremony. I thank G-d that I received my education before educators and psycho-babblers became concerned about self-esteem; I'm also thankful for having received it before it became fashionable for white people to like black people. It meant my grades were honest."

"But there is another federal 'military' in America, and it is much less glamorous. Its activities are not nearly as well advertised, and its mission not nearly as clear. Soldiers in this 'military' stand poised not in America's front yard, but at America's front door. Instead of scanning neighboring territories for threats to American sovereignty, these soldiers scan each room of America's house for threats to government authority, and opportunities to harass its residents. These soldiers do not aim their guns outward; they aim them inward at American citizens. And they've got a lot more guns than one might think. Not surprisingly, soldiers in this quiet 'military' often wear facemasks. After all, they are not just soldiers; they are thugs."

"Confusion, and dismay, abound among businesspeople about how to keep guns off their premises under Minnesota's new conceal-and-carry law."

"By many accounts, businesses don't want firearms on site as the law goes into effect May 28, prompting an estimated 90,000 more Minnesotans to start packing."

-------
Here's a suggestion: print a huge sign that says, "No guns allowed on these premises." No doubt the criminals prefer their prey be disarmed. You'll be doing them a favor.

"Notwithstanding considerable talk to the contrary, the natural relationship among people is one of peaceful cooperation, based on the recognition of the higher physical productivity of the division of labor. This is not to say that there will be no crime and aggression. Mankind being what it is, murderers, robbers, thieves, thugs, and con artists will always exist."

"However, their anti-social behavior is typically suppressed by means of armed self-defense and mutual assistance and insurance arrangements. In most cases, conflicts are settled peacefully through arbitration and by judges endowed with natural, voluntarily acknowledged authority (typically members of the 'nobility' or social elite). Men have thus cooperated for thousands of years without the help of a State (as defined below). Even today, in every small village the workings of a natural order are still discernable."

"Charleston gun dealer Scott Hornsby sees a mix of good and bad if Congress lets the ban on selling assault weapons expire."

"The good, he said, is that it will erase a poorly crafted law written by lawmakers he contends are out to end all gun ownership in America. 'It's kind of a ludicrous law put in place under a hysterical attitude,' he said."

"The bad, he said, is that lifting the ban will allow thousands of assault weapons to quickly flood the consumer market, deflating prices for the increasingly rare pre-ban guns that collectors and sportsmen desire most."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

An off-duty Caney City police officer fatally shot an armed robber Tuesday after he tried to hold up a men's clothing store in north Dallas, police said.

About 3:30 p.m., a man entered a Big & Tall Fashions for Less store in the 9100 block of North Central Expressway and pretended to buy clothes. He pulled out a gun and ordered the cashier to hand over money from the cash register, Dallas police Sgt. Curtis Brown said.

At the time, an off-duty officer from Caney City in Henderson County was in a changing room, Brown said. When the officer came out, the robber raised a gun at him, and the officer shot him, Brown said.

The robber was taken to Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, where he died from the gunshot wound.

The names of the officer and the robber were not released.

"Eleanor Helper said she turned into an instant gun-control advocate on May 9, the day her daughter was shot by a gunman at Case Western Reserve University."

"Just 11 days later Helper was standing before a Senate committee urging lawmakers not to approve a bill allowing licensed Ohio residents to carry concealed handguns."

" 'Some might argue that if Sue had had a concealed weapon she could have defended herself,' the Columbus woman said. 'But what chance would she have had against two semi-automatic handguns carried by an aggressor wearing bulletproof clothing?' "

-------
Her chances would have been slightly better if she'd had a gun. They certainly couldn't have been any worse.

The aggressor was already armed, regardless of Ohio's current lack of concealed carry laws. But what a pathetic attempt at a strawman!

"But, at The Times as in most of the guilt-ridden socialist left, 'diversity' is only a code word."

"Was the internship program used to bring into the newsroom more gun owners (who might have a differing view from the editorial board on one of the nation's most divisive issues), more fundamentalist Christians opposed to abortion (offering a divergent view on the nation's other most divisive issue), more militia members, more Reagan Republicans, more Libertarians, more property-rights advocates, more folks who agree with Gordon Phillips and John Kotmair and Irwin Schiff that current law requires no American to pay a federal income tax on his in-country wages?"

"Of course not. The monochrome leftist Times doesn't seek any 'diversity' of political views. When it says it seeks 'diversity,' it means it's hunting for a few more highly visible 'Puerto Rican and house Negro' faces — assuming they're of the proper collectivist persuasion — to grace the front window."

"When Oakland police opened fire with less-lethal weapons on a group of anti-war protesters at the Port of Oakland on April 7, the question was why? There had been violent protests in other U.S. cities, but no other police force in this country responded with such force. Police officers claimed protesters were throwing rocks, bolts and locks at them, however, neither a videotape shot by the department nor radio communication between officers indicate protesters were throwing anything at the officers. So why did they shoot wooden slugs and stinger grenades at unarmed, non-violent protesters?"

"The answer may be even more disturbing, with far-reaching implications, than the welts and bruises suffered by peaceful protesters." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
For, in principle, there is no difference between a law prohibiting the wearing of concealed arms, and a law forbidding the wearing such as are exposed; and if the former be unconstitutional, the latter must be so likewise. But it should not be forgotten, that it is not only a part of the right that is secured by the constitution; it is the right entire and complete, as it existed at the adoption of the constitution; and if any portion of that right be impaired, immaterial how small the part may be, and immaterial the order of time at which it be done, it is equally forbidden by the constitution. [Bliss vs. Commonwealth, 12 Ky. (2 Litt.) 90, at 92, and 93, 13 Am. Dec. 251 (1822)
