"It appears that Michael Daly, a writer at the New York Daily News, has a problem with guns."

"He writes articles decrying the '500,000 illegal handguns' that apparently flood this city. ... In his thinking, it's clearly the gun's fault these heinous crimes were committed, not the gun user's." ...

"So I will offer here a modest solution to the problem of a half-million illegal handguns in New York. ... We'll offer a 'path to legalization' for these weapons. (Please don't call it 'amnesty.') Those who own these guns will be asked to simply register them. After standing in line, filling out forms, paying some fines, ... these gun-owners will be henceforth 'legalized,' with full conceal-carry permits ..." ...

"The First Law of Nature is that every man ought to endeavour peace, as far as he has hope of obtaining it; and when he cannot obtain it, that he may seek and use all helps and advantages of war." ...

"Among the natural rights of the Colonists are these: First, a right to life; Secondly, to liberty; Thirdly, to property; together with the right to
support and defend them in the best manner they can. These are evident branches of, rather than deductions from, the duty of self-preservation,
commonly called the first law of nature." ...

"The right of self-defense is the first law of nature; in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. ..." ...

"Mayor Bloomberg's decision to hire private investigators to conduct undercover stings at Southern gun shops has potentially jeopardized several criminal cases, law enforcement sources charged."

"Four cases were compromised and an additional 14 were put at risk by the six-week sting ... the sources said."

"The sources argued that several suspects being watched by authorities had frequented some of the 15 gun shops - but are now cleaning up their acts or lying low because of the publicity. ..."

"However, there are no 'sports clubs' who plant landmines for recreation. ... Especially in the USA 'gun control' is a contentious political topic, and the 'pro-gun' lobby is well organized and funded. ... The pro-gun people organized into a 'World Forum on the Future of Sport Shooting Activities' and started to be active, especially toward US diplomats. The World Forum brought to the UN their US slogan 'Guns don’t kill; people do'. In a sense the slogan is correct. ... "When 'Little Sure Shot' Annie Oakley became one of the first women superstars as a renown markswoman on Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in the late 1800's, her fancy shooting opened the flood gates to the idea that women had a place behind the trigger of a gun."

"Although much has changed since the days of Oakley, women and guns remain somewhat of a taboo subject, while in recent years, the popularity of firearms with women has reached an all time high."

"According to a survey taken by the National Rifle Association in 2004, over 17 million American women own some type of firearm."

"The first gun I shot was a Stevens Crack Shot 22 rimfire rifle that belonged to my Grandfather Platt. This was during WW II about the time I started grade school. We would go to Uncle Harve Brooks' house at Avilla and shoot 22 shorts at tin cans. Ammunition wasn't available during WW II but my father had two cartons of Federal 22 shorts saved from before the war. After Uncle Harve returned from the Army we would hunt sitting rabbits in the corn fields and blackberry patches. There were no high-powered rifles in the family but everyone had a 22 and a shotgun. Two of my uncles had Stevens Crack Shot rifles like the one I shot, but everywhere I went, there would be a 22 hanging on the wall or standing in the corner and they were all different. ..." ...
