"Steve Zorbaugh believes that the Second Amendment should be repealed, because “guns are too costly for society.” Normally when I see someone talking about “repealing the Second Amendment” I point out that the Bill of Rights protects natural, fundamental, and inalienable human, individual, and civil rights — subject neither to the democratic process nor to arguments grounded in social utility. But Steve is way smarter than I am and has nipped that argument in the bud right off the bat . . ." ...

"The June 2012 edition of Playboy, which hit the newsstands last Friday, features an article by Pat Jordan entitled 'Armed & Dangerous: Has Gun Culture Gone Too Far?' In the article, in which I am quoted, Pat discusses the open carry movement and the concerns that some have expressed about gun owners 'baring it all.'"

"Jordan, an admitted concealed carrier and believer in self-defense rights, clearly has a problem with open carry. He stereotypes, generalizes, and often just plain gets it wrong. Despite the fact that I am inordinately proud to have been quoted in Playboy, I feel duty bound to offer a point by point rebuttal to his article." ...

"According to Investors.com, the jump in stock value came after Smith & Wesson reported a much higher quarter earnings than anybody had expected."

"The company itself had projected profits around $115 million, while analysts were a bit more gracious and estimated $124.4 million. Smith & Wesson surprised everyone when the reported an impressive $129 million for the fourth quarter, a 28 percent climb in sales since April -- when its stock hit a 52-week high." ...

Gun Review: SIG SAUER 516 Patrol Rifle
Submitted by: Bruce W. Krafft

"SIG introduced the 516 at the 2010 Shot Show. The 516 is actually a line of rifles with varying configurations aimed at specific markets. They are gas-piston operated with a 3-position (4-position optional) gas regulator and employ a piston to reset the bolt as opposed to the DI method that vents much of the gas into to bolt chamber to reset it. While much ink and plenty of electrons have been spilled on the pros and cons of piston ARs version DI models, the basic advantage claimed by team piston is that venting the gas directly into the bolt also vents a lot of crap in there as well. That leads to a buildup of gunk in the bolt carrier area which could eventually lead to a failure to fire if the gun is not kept reasonably clean . . ." ...

"H&K makes a pretty nice grenade launcher for the military. It swings out to the side instead of forward (like the M203), which allows it to take the slightly longer medium velocity grenades in addition to the low velocity ones and just plain looks cooler. "Most, if not all of our readers know what a plinker is. For those who have recently joined the shooting sports family (and welcome, by the way) 'plinker' refers to a handgun, typically chambered in .22 caliber, and mostly used for recreational shooting, such as at tin cans for instance, which make a 'plink”'sound when hit (hence the name 'plinker'). The small percentage of gun ranges that allow holster draw and uninhibited movement don’t provide on-demand choice-based training (i.e. shoot/don’t shoot drills). ... "So if picking up a loaded, damaged firearm to make sure that some kid won’t doesn’t qualify as a good reason, Chevilott’s work-related justification should suffice."

"Anyway, as noted, Chevilott originally wanted to turn the weapon in to a passing-by police vehicle, but he didn’t see one. So, essentially, he was forced to hold the piece while he went about his day, and then he turned it in to the proper authorities later."

"No harm, no foul – right? Wrong."

"Once they found out what happened, the powers that be at the Department of Public Services suspended Chevilott’s foreman for his employee’s deeds, and then they went ahead and just fired Chevilott altogether. Two years short of his retirement, no less." ...
