Constitutional carry for guns did not pass this year in Indiana, but some of the lawmakers who introduced the bill are working on reintroducing it after what's called a "summer study" on it. If the bill passes, it would allow you to open carry a gun without a license. Rep. Jim Lucas, a Republican, said he believes it's not a matter of if Constitutional carry will pass, it's a matter of when.

Lawmakers in the Kansas House have twice rejected efforts to hold a debate on the issue of concealed weapons in public buildings, but the issue could keep popping up. This summer, college campuses and public health facilities will be required to allow guns or install more security to keep weapons out. The top Democrat in the Kansas House, Jim Ward, says they should debate amending the concealed carry law to exempt some facilities from the requirements.

As a category, over/under shotguns don’t lend themselves to innovation. There have been a couple of interesting internal tweaks to how these guns operate in the last few years, but in truth, gunmakers long ago perfected the platform. So the issue becomes, how do you build one well and at a price that will make shooters take notice? Barrett—and, no, that’s not a typo—has jumped into the fine-shotgun game with the Rutherford. Made in Italy in partnership with Fausti, this is a classically styled double that hits all the right notes—including price.

The Dan Wesson Guardian 1911 had a considerable advantage going into this review: the CCO configuration (Commander-length slide, lightweight Officer-size frame) is my favorite for 1911-based, concealed-carry pistols. The grip, not the barrel, is the most difficult part of a semi-automatic to conceal. A 4.25-inch barrel seems the ideal compromise between concealability, balance, quick handling, enhanced sight radius and good velocity. Also, it allows the preservation of John Browning’s original system and internal geometry. All that was required of Dan Wesson was to execute the concept well.

A couple of weeks before last Christmas, I traveled to Springfield, Mass., to unwrap a raft of new presents placed tantalizingly under the wide-reaching boughs of the American Outdoor Brands Corp. tree. While many of the things presented to gun writers at the event were interesting, some were mere stocking stuffers, as it were, while others were the kind that could make a full-grown firearm enthusiast whoop and holler with childlike joy—if only on the inside, of course. |

Last week, attorneys on behalf of the NRA filed an amicus brief in Kitsap County v. Kitsap Rifle and Revolver Club (Kitsap II), the case which challenges Kitsap County’s firearm discharge ban and range licensing scheme. Kitsap Rifle and Revolver Club, a local shooting range that has served the Kitsap community for almost 100 years, is at risk of being shut down by the regulations set forth in the Kitsap County anti-gun ordinance. In the amicus brief, the attorneys establish that Washington state law preempts firearms and shooting range regulations and that the Kitsap County ordinance is in violation of the state’s preemption statutes.

Stephen Hunter is the author of twenty novels and the retired chief film critic for The Washington Post. He joins the Federalist Radio Hour to discuss writing, movies, guns, and his newest novel in his Bob Lee Swagger series, “G-Man.” Hunter contrasts the feelings of critiquing others’ work and putting his own work out their to be critiqued. “The same thing is true of critics as is true of serial killers, is that they’re sort of in the same business. They’re very good at compartmentalizing,” he said. “I was able to be a novelist and I was able to be a critic and not really let them interfere with each other.”

Right now, Savage Arms is in the midst of a brand evolution. For years, the company had a traditional, old-school feel. Even its now-defunct brand logo, the Savage Indian Head, hearkened back to a time when “rifle” and “bolt-action” were synonymous, and the gas-operated semi-automatic was in its infancy. However, all that has changed with the new Savage MSR-15 Recon.

There are only two publicly traded gunmakers in America: American Outdoor Brands (NASDAQ: AOBC) (formerly known as Smith & Wesson) and Sturm, Ruger & Company (NYSE: RGR). Today, we're examining each company's revenue over the past four years, as well as estimates for 2017. Gun sales don't consistently rise. Instead, they're influenced by current events and politics. NICS background checks for firearm purchases -- the key gauge of gun demand -- generally rise after mass shootings and Democratic proposals of tougher gun regulations, and fall when Republicans are in power.

It would also lower the annual renewal fees from $70 to $40. The Abilene Convention Center hosted the Texas Gun and Knife show, where KTAB spoke with attendees and business owners to get some insight on the bill.
