Billionaires Paul Allen, owner of the Seattle Seahawks and co-founder of Microsoft, and venture capitalist Nick Hanauer have each donated a million dollars to a Seattle-based gun prohibition lobbying group to finance its latest gun control initiative campaign, and rights activists are reacting.
The money will support the Initiative 1639 campaign, sponsored by the Alliance for Gun Responsibility. According to the Seattle Times, the Alliance has “a stable of well-heeled Washington residents.” They also helped bankroll Initiative 594 back in 2014. That was the measure mandating so-called “universal background checks” ostensibly to prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands. |

The recent shooting at Santa Fe High School has sparked more discussion on the issue of gun rights, gun control and the power of the gun lobby. Those same issues took center stage at Lake Forest’s Gorton Community Center when the League of Women Voters hosted a forum earlier this month featuring Sen. Richard Durbin, Rep. Brad Schneider, D-10th, and Lake Forest High School senior Elizabeth Porter.

The things we don’t know are fascinating. Judging by recent news reports, we should keep our children at home so they won’t be killed by a crazy kid with a gun at school. On the other hand and again judging by the news reports, we should send our kids to a “gun free” school simply to get them out of any home that might have a legally owned gun on the premises. Neither claim is true, but they are entirely understandable if you reached the wrong conclusion by watching the “news”. The media lies to us as they struggle to sell advertising. Let’s look at the facts, and I’ll show you my sources at the end of the article.

Cocoa, Fla.-based Kel-Tec CNC Industries, Inc., forever changed the accepted idea of defensive shotguns with the debut of its highly distinctive, dual-magazine, pump-action, 12-ga. KSG. Its successful launch lent credence to expanding the line, which the company promptly did with the KSG-NR, KSG Tactical and KSG-25, the latter of which is reviewed here. Like most line extensions, the core characteristics of the KSG-25 stem from the original design. Somewhat unusual in the shotgun world, the KSG-25’s bullpup configuration results in a shorter overall length, even with an almost unheard of 30.5" barrel. Despite that, the KSG-25’s overall length is 38.25", which is slightly shorter than most defensive shotguns.

New research from the University of Washington shows gun owners in this state must do a much better job of securing their weapons at home. The research based on telephone health surveys conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found just over a third of Washington gun owners reported their weapons were locked properly and unloaded when not in use.

A bill that is seen as a limit to their Second Amendment rights for some and lifesaving to others, passed one giant hurdle today, but still has a way to go before it can become law. "The bill has passed it now goes to codes," Senator John Bonacic (R-Delhi) said. The Senate Democrats forced the Judiciary committee to vote on the Extreme Risk Protection Order bill. This bill would allow a judge to block people who are likely to hurt themselves or others from purchasing or possessing guns.

Anti-gun rights liberals are attempting a boycott against Florida-based grocery store Publix after news reports about their contributions to the campaign of Adam Putnam, who is seeking the Republican nomination for Florida governor, but it’s already shaping up to be far more of a blip of social media static than a tidal wave. The kerfuffle began with a May 15th Tampa Bay Times article with this dramatic headline: “Publix is supporting Adam Putnam’s run for governor like no politician before.” The story describes how Publix, along with its corporate leaders and family members of the company’s founder, George Jenkins, have donated $670,000 to Putnam during the past three years.

It is not often that a story generates so much interest and enthusiasm, but this isn’t just any story. This is the story of 8,000 pieces of American history—8,000 artifacts that speak to the American experience during the 20th century. They were born of the World Wars, and they remind us of the era when imperial dynasties crumbled, when fascism threatened the international balance of power, and when the United States sent men to war with a .45 Automatic. These 8,000 pistols fought on battlefields from Europe to Southeast Asia, only to then be consigned to long-term storage in a government warehouse. Although at one time it looked like they might be destroyed, the story of these pistols has a happy ending.

With only one lawmaker voicing opposition, the Rhode Island House of Representatives on Tuesday passed legislation that, in effect, bars jurors from considering “gay or trans panic” as a legal defense for a violent act. The vote was 68-to-2 for the legislation which House Judiciary Committee Chairman Cale Keable reflects a resolution passed by the American Bar Association House of Delegates. The two dissenting votes were cast by Democratic Rep. James McLaughlin and Republican Rep. Justin Price. |

In boxing terms, the Putnam County Gun Club’s Junior Smallbore Team is a bantamweight fighter who punches like a heavyweight.
The team, which usually has just 10 to 15 members in any given year, has developed a reputation for developing shooters who excel in local, state and national rifle competitions. Bill Shank, the team’s longtime head coach, said his squad has earned the respect it gets.
“Our kids do a good job,” he said. “We teach them the fundamentals of precision shooting, and the kids take those skills and make the most of them.”
“Mitchell Nelson will be going to the Univ. of Kentucky, and he’ll be considered for the team there,” Shank said. “WVU coach, Jon Hammond is interested in Bryce Ward...”

The stage was set Tuesday for Ohio’s version of “stand your ground” to receive its first full chamber vote even as Gov. John Kasich pushes in the opposite direction for gun reform. Along a 7-3 party-line vote, the House Federalism and Interstate Relations Committee voted to send House Bill 228 to the full chamber. The measure would generally require prosecutors to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a shooter did not act in self-defense or to protect others, or his or her home. |

Dan Ashe, the director of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service under the Obama administration, recently penned an open letter on gun control measures he claims hunters support. He’s wrong. America’s hunters know that none of his recommendations would make us any safer, much less deter mass murderers or other violent criminals. As Ashe well knows, his proposals have nothing to do with hunting and everything to do with gun control. |

Sounds like Piers Morgan is hoping that Ted Nugent will choke on his own words. British media personality Morgan tore into the musician and gun-rights advocate Nugent on Tuesday, branding him an “idiot” after Nugent seemed to suggest that poor diets for children could be a contributing factor to school shootings. Morgan took aim at Nugent in reaction to a tweet published by Media Matters stating, “NRA board member Ted Nugent blames school shootings on unhealthy diets: ‘Check out what we are feeding our children and you will find the answer to this calamity.'” |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
For, in principle, there is no difference between a law prohibiting the wearing of concealed arms, and a law forbidding the wearing such as are exposed; and if the former be unconstitutional, the latter must be so likewise. But it should not be forgotten, that it is not only a part of the right that is secured by the constitution; it is the right entire and complete, as it existed at the adoption of the constitution; and if any portion of that right be impaired, immaterial how small the part may be, and immaterial the order of time at which it be done, it is equally forbidden by the constitution. [Bliss vs. Commonwealth, 12 Ky. (2 Litt.) 90, at 92, and 93, 13 Am. Dec. 251 (1822) |
