"New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg should be investigated for obstruction of justice, and possibly prosecuted under the federal RICO statutes, for his headline-hunting 'sting' operation of alleged law- breaking gun dealers, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today."
"'According to the New York Daily News, 'Quick-Draw' Bloomberg's decision to hire private investigators for this gun control stunt has apparently jeopardized several genuine criminal cases,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. 'In his foolish zeal to drum up support for an anti-gun campaign, Bloomberg quite possibly has put real investigations at risk. This appears to be as clear cut a case of obstruction of justice as I've ever witnessed and Bloomberg should be investigated, and prosecuted if necessary.'" ... |

"Several gun dealers operating in the South, including Georgia, are finding themselves at the center of a lawsuit filed by the city of New York. The suit is gaining national attention for what could be a new trend in the legal assault on gun violence. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he's fed up with his city's streets being flooded with guns bought from somewhere else. He claims most of the guns are coming from the South, but a local gun shop owner says the lawsuit is nothing more than harassment. Ed Darr, owner of Darr's Shooting Supply in Red Bank says, 'I believe they're way off base.' He believes New York City is trying to tear down the gun industry by attacking them financially, forcing them to defend themselves in expensive lawsuits. ..." ... |

An Allegheny County judge on Monday convicted a fired Pittsburgh police officer of aggravated assault for shooting at a tractor-trailer during a road-rage incident on the Parkway West.
Common Pleas Judge Anthony M. Mariani rejected a defense attorney's argument that Paul "Tony" Palmer, 38, of Sheraden, was acting in self-defense when he fired seven bullets into the wheel of a rig driven by Oliver Sherwood.
Sherwood, of Hazelwood, was not injured during the incident, which occurred Dec. 2, 2003, near the Campbell's Run Road exit in Robinson. Palmer, who was off-duty at the time, was fired in May 2004. He faces up to 10 years in prison when Mariani sentences him on Aug. 21. |
