"New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg should be investigated for obstruction of justice, and possibly prosecuted under the federal RICO statutes, for his headline-hunting 'sting' operation of alleged law- breaking gun dealers, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today."

"'According to the New York Daily News, 'Quick-Draw' Bloomberg's decision to hire private investigators for this gun control stunt has apparently jeopardized several genuine criminal cases,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. 'In his foolish zeal to drum up support for an anti-gun campaign, Bloomberg quite possibly has put real investigations at risk. This appears to be as clear cut a case of obstruction of justice as I've ever witnessed and Bloomberg should be investigated, and prosecuted if necessary.'" ...

"Many of you will remember Shaun Kranish. A few months ago, I blogged about his run-in with school officials over his attire, which included a small, empty nylon fanny pack with the name of his organization on it -- ICarry.org -- and a jacket with his organization's logo, which apparently gave security and administrators at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Ill. heartburn."

"If you remember that story, you will recall the school's shoddy treatment of this student. Well... here we go again."

"MEMBERS OF CONGRESS ARE COMPLAINING about the FBI raid on Rep. William Jefferson's office. The separation of powers argument seems to be pretty weak to me: The actual scope of Congressional immunity under the speech and debate clause is quite narrow (narrower, oddly, than the judically-created immunities enjoyed by judges and prosecutors) and certainly doesn't include immunity from search in a bribery case." ...

"Several gun dealers operating in the South, including Georgia, are finding themselves at the center of a lawsuit filed by the city of New York. The suit is gaining national attention for what could be a new trend in the legal assault on gun violence. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he's fed up with his city's streets being flooded with guns bought from somewhere else. He claims most of the guns are coming from the South, but a local gun shop owner says the lawsuit is nothing more than harassment. Ed Darr, owner of Darr's Shooting Supply in Red Bank says, 'I believe they're way off base.' He believes New York City is trying to tear down the gun industry by attacking them financially, forcing them to defend themselves in expensive lawsuits. ..." ...

If it did, and if the Gotham City was hit by a massive storm such as Katrina, millions of law-abiding New Yorkers would be totally at the mercy of lawless thugs such as those seen on cable TV by tens of millions of viewers watching coverage of the aftermath of Katrina."

So it is encouraging to see Mayor Michael Bloomberg make getting illegal guns off the streets a focus of his second term. An Allegheny County judge on Monday convicted a fired Pittsburgh police officer of aggravated assault for shooting at a tractor-trailer during a road-rage incident on the Parkway West.

Common Pleas Judge Anthony M. Mariani rejected a defense attorney's argument that Paul "Tony" Palmer, 38, of Sheraden, was acting in self-defense when he fired seven bullets into the wheel of a rig driven by Oliver Sherwood.

Sherwood, of Hazelwood, was not injured during the incident, which occurred Dec. 2, 2003, near the Campbell's Run Road exit in Robinson. Palmer, who was off-duty at the time, was fired in May 2004. He faces up to 10 years in prison when Mariani sentences him on Aug. 21.

Apparently, during Hurricane Katrina, some people had their guns taken away from them by law officers while the citizens were patrolling the streets."

"It seems that now even the NRA realizes that this administration is not to be trusted, even though while he was running, Bush made a big deal of saying he would protect gun owner's rights. The one odd thing is that, in its demand for legislation, the NRA wants law enforcement to leave 'law abiding' citizens alone, and only take guns from criminals." ...

"Indirectly, a gun amnesty is a small but potent anti-crime, anti-gang tool. Each gun removed from our community is a weapon that can never find its way onto our streets and into unsavoury or reckless hands through theft or some other means."

"By itself, an amnesty isn't a magic solution for reducing crime; rather it's a useful baby step as part of an overall strategy. ..." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Our Founding Fathers were proud that Americans were trusted with arms because they knew that only when people are armed could they truly be thought of as free citizens. And that's where the circle closes. Those who want to deprive you of your right to keep and bear arms are intending to deprive you of your freedom, period. Like the criminals their policies encourage, these elitists know that it is always best to disarm victims before you enslave them. — Charley Reese
