West Virginia residents are now free to carry a gun hidden or in plain site when they move about the Mountain State. The new conceal carry act which won approval earlier this year at the legislature took effect Tuesday. Under the new law a government issued conceal carry permit is no longer necessary to pack a firearm under your clothing or in a purse in West Virginia for those over the age of 21. |

Ruger’s R&D guys have been quite active over the last several years. They have listened to input from both law enforcement and the private sector in the process of developing new guns and modifying older models. To this baseline of civilian and law enforcement suggestions they have added some military requirements gathered from the U.S. Military’s Joint Combat Pistol specifications and, later, the Modular Handgun System Program. The end result is Ruger’s next generation striker-fired polymer-frame pistol called, simply, the Ruger American Pistol. The company’s hope is that the new family of pistols (there will be additional models) will fill the needs of all Americans who exercise their Second Amendment rights. |

From the sounds of a baby crying to gunshots at a range, these are stark contrasts for my girlfriends. Ten years ago I didn't know a woman with a gun. Now everyone I know either has one or they're talking about it. I can easily count a dozen girlfriends who are now armed with guns. Even though their husbands have guns, they wanted their own. A few of them agreed to go on camera to talk about why. |

Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson said Tuesday that he believes a fatal shooting by a Republic police officer last February was legally justified. Sgt. John Tinsley shot Destry Meikle after Meikle ran his car into two garages and then seemed to back up as if he was going to run over Tinsley. Patterson said he reviewed the Greene County Sheriff’s Department's investigation of the shooting on Feb. 16. He said it was a legally justified use of deadly force in self-defense. |

A Bergen County man has lost his bid to fight the confiscation of his guns and ammunition following a domestic violence arrest and charges that he had high-capacity magazines and hollow-point ammunition. An appellate decision on Tuesday upheld a Superior Court judge’s earlier ruling that Arthur Vinogradsky was no longer qualified to be a gun owner even though the charges against him were eventually dropped. |

A defense lawyer in the Oregon wildlife refuge occupation case argued Monday that a federal conspiracy charge leveled against over two dozen people is constitutionally vague, could threaten free speech and should be dismissed. Attorney Amy Baggio made that argument and others on the first day of legal motions in the case stemming from the Ammon Bundy-led 41-day armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge that started Jan. 2, The Oregonian reported. |

Late last week the New York Post ran a story that would be the stuff of nightmares for every law enforcement officer in the United States. ... There is simply no way that the story reported by the Post is true. A 9mm bullet moving at over 1,200 feet per second isn’t going to be slowed, much less stopped, by anything less than soft body armor. |

Yet others say gun owners shouldn't have to be entered in a database to practice a constitutional right. "You're curtailing that right by requiring that a name be entered into a database without doing anything wrong," said Kenneth Lawson, faculty at the University of Hawaii's William S. Richardson School of Law.
Legal experts say the bill could face challenges, but would probably hold up in court. Recent Supreme Court rulings have clarified states' ability to regulate gun sales, said David Levine, a law professor at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Mike Coombs feels like he is in the crosshairs of Seattle lawmakers, who this year implemented a special tax on the guns and ammo his Fourth Avenue store has sold for more than 40 years. On January 1 Seattle began imposing a $25 tax on every gun and a 5-cent tax on every round sold within city limits. The stated objective was to raise up to $500,000 per year to fund programs to prevent gun violence. But Coombs claims the real effect is to kill his business, and a gun rights legal foundation is battling the city for figures it believes will show the law was never about taking in revenue. |

The coalition started in 2013 when the Rhode Island General Assembly did not pass common sense gun legislation. Last Thursday, the coalition held a rally at the State House asking House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello to move gun control legislation out of the Judiciary Committee for a vote on the House floor.

This is a bolt-action rifle. There are many like it, but this one is a Mauser 98. It is legendary. It is the culmination of much tinkering and testing by its creator, Paul Mauser, and the final result is a thing of strength and simplistic beauty. The Mauser 98, or Gewehr 98, was adopted as the German service rifle in 1898 and became the mother of all bolt-action rifles; Britain’s Pattern 1914 Enfield service rifle took cues from it; our 1903 Springfield copied Mauser’s design and its stripper clip so explicitly the U.S. government paid royalties to the German company in order to produce it. |
