"The right to keep and bear arms is black and white. Any politician who attempts to convince you otherwise is a petty tyrant who does not deserve your vote. Any politician who attempts to tell you how, when, where and under what circumstances you can exercise your Second Amendment rights either has no understanding of the right to keep and bear arms or no respect for it."

"Either choice is unacceptable." ...

"The time has come to support a candidate who will respect your rights as absolute – not as privileges to be granted by the government and taken away at whim."

"We, at Armed Females of America, believe that candidate is Aaron Russo."

"John Kerry owns a shotgun and a rifle, has taken time from the campaign trail to go hunting and relied on firearms during the Vietnam War. But the Democratic presidential candidate's fondness for his guns will not save him from a political assault by the NRA."

"The 4 million-strong NRA could be an obstacle in Kerry's bid for the presidency, not simply because of the size of its membership but because of the significance of the states where those people live. About one-fourth of NRA members live in West Virginia, Ohio, Florida, Michigan, Missouri and Pennsylvania — all battleground states with 101 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency." ...

"The NRA says it doesn't matter how many guns the Massachusetts senator owns or how often he hunts because he nearly always votes against gun rights in the Senate. Kerry supports extending the ban on assault-type weapons and requiring background checks at gun shows. He opposes granting gun makers immunity from civil lawsuits."

-------
Of course, if the NRA had any actual principles, they would endorse a Libertarian candidate!

... "Whether the subject is concealed handgun laws or bans on semi-automatic so-called 'assault weapons,' gun control debates have been filled with apocalyptic claims about what will happen if gun control is not adopted. One common prediction is that laws allowing the carrying of a concealed weapon will result in crime waves, or permit holders shooting others. However, with 37 states now having right-to-carry laws, and another nine states letting some citizens carry, permit holders have continually shown themselves to be extremely law-abiding. It is becoming more and more difficult to attack those laws." ...

"Is it possible for bad domestic law to be a detriment to our fighting forces overseas – even to the point of getting some soldiers killed? Absolutely, say veterans, who want lawmakers to fix the problem ASAP."

"According to a report in the July issue of Soldier of Fortune magazine, many of the ammunition magazines for the M-16/M-4 family of rifles used by troopers, along with 9 mm magazines for sidearms, are increasingly failing because they are either old or of poor quality."

"The result, say troopers, is that ammunition fails to feed properly – a situation which can turn deadly in a hurry during a firefight."

"In a remarkable speech in October, which I missed at the time but the transcript of which I recently ran across, U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor told a 'Guns, God and Guts' conference that a Democrat can compete in the South if he's gun-loving and deeply religious. More to the point, Pryor said a candidate needs to be showy about both because 'silence is not golden ... silence is an admission of guilt.' " ...

"Pryor's remarks seemed cynical until you noticed that he asserted the blessed coincidence of personal sincerity. How con-,veeen-yent, as the Church Lady might say. How inconvenient, though, for the poor Southern political candidate who doesn't want to wear his shotgun on one sleeve and his Bible on the other."

"...the biggest threat Iraq faces in the near term is subversion from within and without. There are still a significant number of domestic terrorists and foreign militia groups in the country. Their goal is to overthrow the new Iraqi government and impose some form of anti-American, anti-Western Islamist regime."

"That's why it makes absolutely no sense for the U.S.-led coalition to continue its policy of disarming Iraqi citizens."

"For more than 200 years, Americans have operated under the constitutionally protected principle that citizens have the right to defend themselves by bearing arms."

"Yet, right now, the United States is leading an effort to disarm the Iraqi populace – leaving them at the mercy of groups and individuals who will never willingly give up their guns or a future government that will rule over the people by force."

-------
Joseph Farah calls a spade a spade.

This is not the way to empower the people. This is not the way of freedom. This is not the American way.

Once the extraordinary situations have passed, the new balance of power is preserved as if it was the original. Thus, the great barriers to change set in place by the founding fathers to preserve liberty have been perverted to preserve oppression."

In each of these robberies, he preyed upon a small business. In each of these robberies, he threatened the immediate use of deadly, physical force with a firearm. On Oct. 30, 1995, he pleaded guilty to the above crimes. He received another sentence of 15 years for these crimes."

"Marie Schabel has been forced to enroll her 11-year-old son in a self-defence course after he was robbed of his pocket money by a group of youths."

" 'It's not to win fights but to protect himself,' the mother of three said."

"Mrs Schabel's decision to initiate her own measures against crime is part of an increasing trend in Dubbo."

"Private and commercial property owners are spending thousands of dollars to secure homes and business premises; retailers are employing guards from security firms to protect them during opening hours; and the city council is budgeting to spend a record amount on public security, including the possible extension and operation of surveillance cameras in the central business district."

"Several pro-gun groups are pushing Utah legislators to throw out an instruction requirement for obtaining a concealed-carry permit. They argued last week before the Legislature's Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee that such regulations don't change the way law-abiding citizens handle firearms." ...

"But one statement during the hearing oversimplifies the enormous responsibility that comes with owning a gun, especially those that can be concealed. At one point, one of the group members said that handling a firearm is not much more complicated than owning a stapler."

"That's true in that only one motion is needed to activate both devices. But staplers typically don't have the power to kill a person."

"It is that difference that makes mandated instruction important. To be clear, guns don't kill people. Only people have the power to point a gun and pull the trigger. The vast majority of gun owners cherish their right to own weapons and follow the laws of our land." ...

"Should concealed-carry permits be allowed? Absolutely. The Constitution gives people that right. ..."

-------
Wrong! The Constitution recognizes that pre-existing right and prevents governments from infringing upon it.

"He was shot during an exercise-yard fistfight by Carlos Jacobo, an officer involved in about 30 shootings in his first 18 months on the job. That was more than any other officer at the prison during that time and helped him earn his nickname, according to Perez's attorneys."

"The settlement of the federal court case comes as the state prison system is reeling from legislative inquiries into hundreds of millions in budget overruns and a federal court monitor's January report that the department failed to properly investigate rogue officers." ...

"Twin Falls police responded to a burglary in progress in the early hours of May 12, 1998, and found a man lurking near the building. Sgt. Mark Marvin chased the man into the parking lot as Staff Sgt. Dan McAtee arrived at the scene."

"The suspect fired a shot at McAtee -- missing -- and ran behind a house."

" 'I pursued him into a cul de sac,' McAtee said. 'He was weaving his way in between the houses. I could have shot him but if I'd have missed ... I chose not to fire back at him because of the situation.' "

"Officers train in shooting techniques, but they also learn when not to shoot, he said."

"ILLEGAL firearm owners in NSW have until June 30 to surrender their weapons to police without fear of prosecution."

"NSW Police Minister Mr John Watkins yesterday warned anyone caught with a banned gun after the NSW firearms amnesty ended faced up to 14 years jail."

"He said almost 9000 weapons, including 6201 rifles, 1656 shotguns, 835 handguns and 72 other weapons had been handed in across the State."

"In Albury more than 300 weapons have been handed to police, which includes more than 200 in two days during January."

"Insp Richard Harvey said the gun amnesty was the perfect opportunity for people with illegal, unregistered and disused guns to hand them over without consequences." ...

Also, people who used guns in crime and don't want those guns traced back to them. It appears the Aussie government wants to aid and abet criminals.

"Women going home late at night might like to arm themselves with a can of pepper spray with which they can ward off any unwelcome attention."

"With working hours going longer into the night, women employees are increasingly feeling the need for security devices."

"This has created a market for personal security products — such as pepper spray. According to industry sources, the number of women carrying a can of spray in their bags is slowly picking up in the city."

"A 100 per cent indigenised pepper spray promises 45 minutes of excruciating pain once spurted on the face in case of an assault. ..." ...

-------
There are a few major problems with pepper spray. If the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, you could incapacitate yourself with a face-full of the stuff. Also, it is not recommended to allow your attacker to get so close to you that he is able to outpower you physically. Use of pepper spray precludes self-defense from a distance. The use of a firearm does not.

"The officers were suspended and, after a lengthy investigation, four were charged with the little-used offence of 'misfeasance in public office" - allegedly misconduct on a criminal scale - in relation to their roles in the background planning and preparation of the raid." ...

"All charges were withdrawn, although the officers remained suspended for three years. The officers are suing the force for their treatment during this period."

"The report came in two parts - a 6:00 p.m. broadcast featured OFCC-supporter and Ohio Concealed handgun license (CHL)-holder Bruce Beatty on a walk through downtown Toledo. The reporter followed Beatty on his walk for an hour, interviewing passers-by as to what they perceived to be 'different' about him. Not one single person was able to discern that he was carrying." ...

Innocent until proven guilty of course, but their own board found questionable conduct. And yet, in Indonesia, it's nearly impossible for the non-connected, non-rich to get permission to carry a gun, while these guys run around the country armed.

"Grenades, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and artillery rounds were also collected."

"Sometimes it's complicated being married to a law enforcement officer. Spouses tend to shrug off concerns about danger and scheduling annoyances, saying it's more than worth it to be married to someone who's devoted to his or her job and to improving other people's lives."

"The stresses of law enforcement life are serious enough that the Tacoma Police Department recently began a Life Partners Academy to help spouses and significant others of officers better understand the police life."

"A bill passed by the California Senate that would require ammunition buyers to provide a thumb print at the time of purchase amounts to "an insidious invasion of privacy," the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today."

" 'California lawmakers are trying to reinvent a broken wheel,' said CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron. 'Recording ammunition sales has proven to be ineffective in solving crime, and requiring a thumb print moves this idea into the realm of the ludicrous. It's a waste of time and taxpayers' money, but more importantly, this constitutes a serious privacy issue. If this measure dealt with something other than a gun control issue, the ACLU would be screaming about it.' "

"The shooting outside the market let two men wounded and a third man dead. Police believe that the dead man was the intended target, and the other two men were simply victims of a powerful weapon in the hands of a criminal who couldn't control it. The suspect is still at large."

"Police say gangs are brazenly firing off the weapons to scare off the competition. They've got the good people scared, too."

-------
It is said that the definition of insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting different results. The ban is already ineffective. All it does is prevent the "good people" from defending themselves with a more powerful weapon than what the armed thugs are wielding.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
You must understand, therefore, that there are two ways of fighting: by law or by force. The first way is natural to men, and the second to beasts. But as the first way often proves inadequate one must have recourse to the second. — Niccolo Machiavelli in "The Prince."
