"First, there was the McCarthy-Dingell bill ... to greatly expand the Brady Law. They say it will stop future Virginia Tech shootings. And, oh yes, there's one more thing: they want you to believe the McCarthy-Dingell gun control bill isn't really gun control. Now, they want to bring you an anti-gun immigration amnesty bill. ..." ...

"So let's say your local gun store sells two or three firearms to Mayor Bloomberg's thuggish agents under New York City's extraterritorial 'sting' operations. Your gun shop is now a 'criminal gang.'"

"The proposed gun laws are not in harmony with the Supreme law, which affords us the opportunity of protecting these God-given rights. Our guns are not to protect us from each other as much as they are for protecting us against usurpation from a tyrannical government."

"Government is defined as society's instrument of 'organized force,' and it has always been a problem to keep this force under control; this is the reason that their effort to disarm the American people is even an issue." ...

"The indictment of Jacob Nickels, son of Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, on charges relating to a conspiracy to cheat casinos is enough to suggest that the anti-gun mayor -- who supports laws that would treat all gun owners like criminals -- perhaps should look closer to home to find someone who really needs his character scrutinized [CCRKBA] said today."

"CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb noted, 'While Mayor Nickels, a member of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun mayors' coalition, has been devoting so much energy looking for, or trying to create, criminals in the firearms community, he may have had one living right under his nose. But what can you expect from a man who looks the other way when Bloomberg mounts an illegal sting operation ..." ...

"An Australian movie fan on his way to pose for a Star Wars 30th anniversary photo shoot was arrested by police after his replica laser pistol was mistaken for a more earthly machine gun, media reported on Friday." ...

"Police said despite being a harmless replica and a close match to a weapon from a galaxy far, far away, the man would be charged with possessing an unregistered firearm."

Submitter's Note: And the Brady Campaign holds up Australia as a reasonable model of gun control. Now I guess we know what to expect if they get their way.

The idea is to prevent New Year's revelers and other trigger-happy folk from firing away foolishly in parts of the county that have ceased to be rural and thinly populated."

"The recent seemingly thoughtful commentary ('Getting our sights on gun control,' May 14) by Richard Schaaf deserves comment."

"He references an April 21 Economist Magazine article citing the number of gunfire and suicide deaths in 2006. The numbers are meant to impress us. How many of the deaths were criminals killing each other (gang shootings) or killed by police? How many were caused by law-biding citizens exercising their right to self-defense? Without categorizing the numbers, analysis of the data is meaningless."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

A CARE-WORKER from Cleator Moor bought herself a cattle-prod for her own self defence after being attacked in her home.

Anita Dunne, 41, of Aldby Place, bought the weapon on eBay for her own protection, magistrates heard this week.

Joe Kelly, defending, said Dunnee had suffered a nasty assault in her home in the presence of her 10-year-old daughter.

He said the police had so far not taken action and Dunne was a “nervous wreck” and frightened. This led to her getting the prod, and a CS gas canister, which were both classed as unauthorised weapons. [emphasis added]

They had never been taken outside the house and his client was of previous good character. She was fined £200 and told to pay £80 costs.
