Taunton High senior Rylie Roderick said being a member of the Taunton Rifle & Pistol Club’s marksmanship team improved her ability to play on Taunton High’s volleyball and tennis teams.

“I can only say the marksmanship has helped me with my mental game,” she said during a recent interview at the Taunton Rifle & Pistol Club.

Rylie, 18, said she developed an interest in rifle shooting competitions after discovering the Taunton Rifle & Pistol Club website during her sophomore year.

“I heard about their team and I went to the rifle club to visit,” she said. “They let younger kids go to the rifle range and try it out. If you shoot well, they will bring your scores to you and talk about them.”

Courthouse sparring is ramping up in a case that could eventually decide whether Washington’s newly adopted ban on the sale of semiautomatic rifles is constitutional.

Gun rights advocates filed the lawsuit in federal district court in Tacoma on April 25, the same day Gov. Jay Inslee signed the legislation. On Monday, Attorney General Bob Ferguson registered his opposition to the challengers’ request for a preliminary injunction to block the law’s enforcement while the litigation unfolds.

Much of the tyrannical torrent today comes from the ATF itself, an organization whose very existence is anathema to the principles of freedom upon which the U.S. Constitution was founded. There should be no agency devoted to infringing on the right of the people to keep and bear arms. However, just because such an agency has been allowed to be established, it does not mean that we must permit its perpetuation.

Enter the Second Amendment Foundation’s Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA).

A recent article published on guns.com reported on the effort by the Second Amendment Foundation to investigate the ATF:

The United States is ranked number one globally when it comes to gun ownership, according to World Population Review. Estimates show there are anywhere from 200 million to more than 350 million guns in the U.S. While gun ownership is most common among men, Pew Research Center reports the number of first-time buyers is on the rise. One-third of those first-timers are now women, according to CBS. In fact, it says there’s been a 77% increase in female gun ownership from 2005 to 2020, and those numbers keep rising. The reason why? Women say they don’t want to be a victim.

While Oklahoma is an open carry state, public schools are often reminding patrons, parents and students that it is illegal to have weapons on all school properties.

After an incident on May 16 at Tahlequah High School, local administrators again found the issue at the forefront. What was initially seen by some observers as a possible threat turned out to be a parent picking up his child at the track. The man stepped out of the vehicle at the school, with a pistol on his hip that he had forgotten was there. Superintendent Tanya Jones said the SRO was immediately contacted and was on the radio with local police as he made his way to the subject.

Since the 1970s, I’ve written editorials about what was then called “gun control.” In recent years, I largely passed over the subject.

Back then, it was unthinkable elementary school kids could be gunned down in a classroom, Bible classes and synagogues profaned, or that shopping malls, cinemas, restaurants and music festivals would see mass killing after mass killing.

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham knows exactly where to go to get fawning media coverage and an agreeable viewing audience for her all-call gun control platform.

Gov. Lujan Grisham joined MSNBC’s Morning Joe just days following the murders of three innocent Americans by a mentally troubled 18-year old. She knew there would be no serious pushback or correcting by the host of her false statements about firearms and lies about the firearm industry.

Then again, that was most likely her goal. And, sadly, its standard operating procedure for much of what passes these days for “mainstream media” and journalism.

On May 17th, the Legislature adjourned sine die from its 2023 legislative session. During this session, the Legislature passed NRA-backed House Bill 61, sponsored by Speaker Cathy Tilton, to protect Second Amendment rights during declared states of emergency. Sen. Scott Kawasaki sponsored and championed its companion, Senate Bill 63. Both bills enjoyed bipartisan support. HB 61 is currently on Gov. Dunleavy’s desk awaiting his signature.

In addition, pro-Second Amendment lawmakers did their duty to ensure that House Bill 162, to create “red flag” gun seizures without due process, and House Bill 164, to impose a one-size-fits-all firearm storage mandate, were defeated this session.

Gun banners in Hartford have been busy all session cooking up a concoction of more gun control. In a state where there is already a large buffet of gun laws, it’s time for Connecticut gun owners to say “Enough!” There is no shortage of gun laws in the state, and this is nothing more than political pandering. Your immediate assistance is needed! It is imperative that you contact your representative NOW and urge them to OPPOSE HB 6667 which severely restricts the second amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen! Additionally, please share this alert with your family and friends, and ask them to do the same.

Connecticut lawmakers on Thursday advanced the most wide-ranging package of gun safety measures since the legislation passed after the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre, with proponents noting the state is not “recklessly retreating” from regulating guns like other states.

The bill, which cleared the Democratic controlled House of Representatives on a 96-51 vote, bars openly carrying firearms, among other changes.

There’s a renewed interest in the Browning Hi-Power, which was discontinued in 2018. If you want one today, you essentially have four options. Springfield Armory and EAA are offering new Hi-Power clones, you can pick up an original, or have any of the three customized. With prices ranging from around $400 to $3,000, you might be wondering which is the best option.

I’ve been carrying Hi-Powers for more than 20 years and currently own four of them.

United States District Judge Jane L. Boyle of the Northern District of Texas issued a preliminary injunction against the ATF’s ban on pistols equipped with stabilizing braces on Thursday in the case Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) v. ATF. Drawing on the injunction issued against the ban on Tuesday by a three-judge panel of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Boyle said similar concerns over administrative procedure and Second Amendment rights were at issue in the case before her court. She limited her injunction to just the plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

President Biden on Wednesday renewed his call for Congress to pass new gun control measures, including an "assault weapons" ban, during a White House event commemorating the first anniversary of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, which claimed the lives of 19 children and two adults.

After honoring the victims and lamenting the lives that were lost, Biden said American schools have become "killing fields" and that people are crying out for policymakers to "do something."

"We did something afterward, but not nearly enough," Biden said. "We still need to ban, in my view, AR-15 firearms and assault weapons once again. You know, they’ve been used time and again in mass killings of innocent children and people."

He claimed the former president’s 2018 proposal to take guns from potentially dangerous people before courts can vet claims against them violates several parts of the constitution.

“That’s unconstitutional,” DeSantis told conservative radio host Dana Loesch. “It violates the Second Amendment, but I think, even more important, it violates the Fifth Amendment because they can’t take anything from you without due process. It’s not just firearms. And, so, the idea that you’re seizing people’s property and then promising due process later; that is wrong. That’s not something I would support.”

“The range needs to feel open and it needs to feel friendly to welcome everybody — that’s not something we see across this industry,” said Kurt Lieberman.

Liberman, the president and owner of Youngsville Gun Club & Range and Tar River Arms, said after a year of construction, they opened the facility to the community on Franklin Park Drive. He said the shooting range is open to all ages but it is unlike what people might have experienced before.

The Second Amendment doesn’t shield a man from prosecution for unlawful possession of unregistered firearms, the US District Court for the Northern District of Indiana ruled.

Jeffrey Sredl sought to dismiss four counts of unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm under the National Firearms Act, 26 U.S.C. Section 5861(d), arguing that the charges violated his Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms in light of the US Supreme Court’s 2022 decision in N.Y. State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n v. Bruen. Bruen held that the Second Amendment safeguards people’s ability to carry a handgun outside of their homes for ...

But that's not surprising. Many, if not most, metropolitan newspapers are staffed by people who support all manner of civil rights, except for the one enumerated as "Amendment II" of the U.S. Constitution.

Hawaiians can now carry billy clubs and batons for self-defense as the legal fight over the weapons ends.

On Tuesday, United States District Judge Jill A. Otake implemented a permanent injunction on the law prohibiting Hawaiian citizens from carrying billy clubs as a condition of a settlement in Yukutake v. Shikada. The settlement allows law-abiding Hawaiians to own and carry “cudgels, truncheons, police batons, collapsible batons, billy clubs, or nightsticks” for their protection. It also orders the state to pay $50,000 to cover the plaintiffs’ legal fees.

Around one in the afternoon, February 7th, close to Wrigley Field in Chicago, a 53-year-old man shot two dogs. Despite not being on a leash, the barking dog’s owner claims she told the man they wouldn’t harm him.

The dogs followed the 53-year-old man around a corner and down the alley. The 53-year-old had his concealed carry license and told police, “The dogs advanced towards him in an aggressive manner.” He fired multiple shots, hitting both dogs. After shooting the dogs, he went into a nearby building, and that’s when all hell broke loose.

Former President Barack Obama (D) had a lot to say about our Second Amendment rights in a recent interview with CBS, where the headline read, “Barack Obama says public attitudes around gun rights have to be reshaped.”

“I think somehow, and there are a lot of historical reasons for this; gun ownership in this country became an ideological issue and a partisan issue in ways that it shouldn’t be. It has become sort of a proxy for arguments about our culture wars,” said Obama in the interview.

It’s curious, if not troubling, that a former president would state that a constitutionally protected right is “ideological” and “partisan,” but he wasn’t done.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The gun-control movement is driven by raw emotion. Facts are irrelevant. Logic is spurned. Utter nonsense is solemnly intoned. It's little wonder that our most emotive president has made gun control his signature domestic issue. — Don Feder
