No longer just a rumor, now an event. Chicago gun owners are encouraged to attend a peaceful demonstration at Grant Park on Independence Day. We'll be trying to send a message to State's Attorney Dick Devine that he doesn't get to write the law, by stapping on fanny packs. Since handgun possession is illegal in Chicago, regardless of the state standards, it is recomended that participants not carry functional guns to the event.

Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown is a big booster of the city's "Operation Beat Feet" program that allows the city to seize cars driven by those who solicit prostitutes or try to buy drugs on the street. Said the Mayor, "We're going to keep it going as long as we have to, until these neighborhoods are safe."

I'm all for safe Oakland neighborhoods too, but not if it means punishing innocent people, and not if it means the punishment far exceeds the crime. --Debra Saunders

Memorial Day delivers an important lesson to those who will hear: When nations drop their guard or ignore the reality of evil, innocent people die. Nations endure crises and epidemics, but nothing sears the heart as much as war. If we want to avoid the necessity of building more Arlingtons, we should hear the testimony of those who repose there now: Walk softly. Carry a big stick. And never forget. --Tony Snow

It is "Small Arms Destruction Day" on July 9, 2001. Plans are underway for government agents to ignite huge bonfires of handguns, rifles and other firearms in major population centers worldwide.

Organizers of the Conference say "the public destruction of weapons" is good because it "is one of the best ways to attract attention" to global civilian disarmament.

Tucson may decide not to give a gun show promoter a contract, but cannot require private sellers to check buyers' background for sales, the Arizona Court of Appeals says.

The City Council adopted a policy in February requiring background checks in all gun sales at Tucson Convention Center.

Judge Stephen C. Villarreal of Pima County Superior Court ruled that the policy is "invalid and unenforceable" because it conflicts with state law.

I was wondering why I was so depressed today, but I realized it was less of a depression and more of an anger. The reason: Traitors in our midst. The traitor in question is one Senator James Jeffords of Vermont. I should be mad at the Democrats. But punishment should go to the GOP.

"I just don't want people getting the feeling they can shoot people for property crimes" police chief Bobby Haulk said. "I know he says he was in fear for his life, and I am not saying he wasn't. But all he had to do was go and shut himself in an office and call the police."

~~The man had his wife and kid with him. I doubt he was fearing for his life. I think this police chief should read the book "Dial 911 and die".

A 14 year old boy took a pistol and ammunition to his top private school last week to protect himself against another boy who had threatened him with a knife.

He told his friends the boy with the knife did not go to Oakhill, but he was afraid he would be waiting for him outside the school grounds.

One of the friends told his father he had seen the bullets and other boys had seen the gun. The father tried to call the school, but the office was closed so he rang police.

"This article is interesting and very concise. It should be read. Much of it speaks truth. Anyone who has read the Constitution can see his points, and can see how the changes are as he pens them.

We are no longer living the Constitution as it was proposed 250 years ago. We are now living in a political system that is for itself, not the people." --Comment by A.Edmons

By now, many of us have doubtless read several accounts of the California Supreme Court's decision in People v. Williams, where Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Paul Teilh's decision to replace a juror who told him he was not willing to follow the law was affirmed--as a duty of the court, no less. One such report appeared in the May 8 Daily Journal, in "High Court Rejects 'Jury Nullification'", by Peter Blumberg. ... by Larry Dodge

"Many Americans believe that data collection has already gone too far. But information experts say this is only the beginning of an era in which more people and institutions will seek access to personal details not available in the past." --Robert O'Harrow Jr.
