What a morning it was. The birds were hammering from the roost before dawn and continued gobbling even after fly-down. We shared vocal volleys with two vociferous toms for a lengthy duration but just couldn’t coax them close enough to seal the deal. Off we went to another location where we struck gobbling gold a second time, but again failed to fool our feathered foes into shotgun range.

Fusion is a line of ammunition from Federal Premium well known for deer hunting. The name comes from the fact that the jacket is electro-chemically fused with the lead core, so there is almost no chance of early separation. When these impact a target, the skived tip allows very good and consistent expansion, even at very long ranges. This line of ammo also has quite a variety of different sizes for hunting, from handgun to African game and everything in between. |

While people are laughing hysterically about the Wenatchee, Wash., felon who is in big trouble with the law after shooting himself in the genitals last month, the case should be embarrassing for Evergreen State anti-gunners whose legislative schemes and initiative sales jobs have only resulted in impairments against honest citizens.
Cameron Jeffrey Wilson, a 13-time convicted felon at age 27, is now facing charges ranging from drug offenses to witness tampering. He is also a walking—albeit uncomfortably—testament to the failure of gun control laws. |

When I started with NRA in 1995, most of the attention our organization received was over legislative efforts in Congress. Firearm-related legislation at the federal level obviously has an impact on far more law-abiding gun owners than that of a single state. As I wrote last month, though, Congress often moves at a glacial pace. To see a more rapid advancement of our right to keep and bear arms, just look at what we have been doing at the state level. |

Several motions were filed in court the week before a preliminary hearing was set to take place in the case of the Pinson man accused of the deadly shooting in the Trussville Cracker Barrel parking lot. Randy Young was shot in the parking lot of the restaurant on Norrell Drive on March 28, 2019. Bryan Hancock was originally charged with attempted murder. After Young died two days later, the charge against Hancock was upgraded to capital murder. He was given no bond and was not given the opportunity to bond out of the Jefferson County Jail. |

The 2019 U.P. Regional MYHEC (Michigan Youth Hunting Education Challenge), an outdoor skills and safety program for young outdoor enthusiasts, is scheduled for Saturday, June 22 at the Chippewa County Shooting Association (6710 S. Ridge Road) in Sault Ste. Marie.
MYHEC is an NRA youth program which is recognized as the most comprehensive youth hunting program anywhere in North America. In order for youth to participate in this event, they must have a current hunter education card and be under the age of 18 on the day of the event.
Because events are conducted in simulated hunting conditions, MYHEC provides the best test of a youth hunter’s skills short of an actual situation afield. |

In a new interview, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban proposed an “update” to the Second Amendment that would protect the rights of gun owners and bolster the authority of states to dictate firearm policy within their borders. “I would go to change the Second Amendment in ways that people probably wouldn't expect,” says Cuban, who backed Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election and is mulling a 2020 bid as an Independent.

Grizzly bears are expanding their range in the U.S. Northern Rockies, spreading from remote wilderness into farmland amid a legal fight over proposed hunting. New government data from grizzly population monitoring show bruins in the Yellowstone region of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho expanded their range by about 1,500 square miles (3,900 square kilometers) over the past two years. |

The U.S. hunting population likely fell by about 1 million between 2006 and 2016, according to surveys by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), even as annual hunting participation held firm and grew in some states and regions. The FWS has conducted a survey of outdoor recreation every five years since 1955. In 1980, the survey estimated 17.5 million Americans 16 and older hunted (7 percent of the population). In 2006, it estimated about 12.5 million Americans 16 and older hunted. The number sank in 2016 to 11.5 million, or roughly 5 percent of the nation’s population.

It’s undeniable that many gun owners also enjoy a fine cigar, but what many firearm enthusiasts might not realize is that the opposite is also very true. We have all been at the range and noticed the aroma of a fresh stogie in the air, but how many of us have been to a cigar convention only to be overpowered by gun owners and discussions about the Second Amendment? Believe it or not, the connection is deep between these two industries, and I set out to shed some light on why.

Ever since California Democrats got a real stranglehold on the legislature with their "supermajority" several years ago, they have been feverishly attacking the Second Amendment rights of the state's citizens. Earlier this month, the California Assembly moved along a bill that was rather Soviet-esque in its creepiness. I've been asked in many interviews over the past few years about the various exceedingly anti-Second Amendment laws issuing forth from Sacramento. I'm no legal expert, but my reply each time was that none of them would survive close scrutiny in court.

In an attempt to avoid what will likely be a strike-down of its unconstitutional gun laws by the U.S. Supreme Court, New York City recently revised part of that law. But according to Chris W. Cox, NRA-ILA executive director, the move doesn’t change the case New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. City of New York.

The Illinois State Police say gun dealers can certify federal firearms licenses online to comply with a new state law. They said Friday that dealers can certify their licenses on the state police website to comply with the law intended to reduce the opportunity for illegal gun transfers. The law requires each licensee to file with the state police a copy of its license with a sworn affidavit indicating that license belongs to the dealer and is valid. |

At a library two miles from Sandy Hook Elementary School, where 20 students were among those killed in one of the nation’s most horrific mass shootings, John Hickenlooper sat Saturday among two dozen survivors, listening to their ideas on how to curb gun violence and pitching a few of his own. Universal background checks are a must, the former two-term Colorado governor said. Then, maybe, an assault weapons ban. As president, he would go community by community, House district by House district, with data to convince reluctant federal lawmakers to pass meaningful gun control legislation.
