It is common knowledge that books, and many other publications, may foster bad behavior, even criminal behavior, and wrong beliefs. Some books may stimulate hostility towards a helpful government. Others may actually enable criminal activity. Some books may expose to public view information about government activity better kept confidential. |

Tens of thousands of Illinois residents whose gun licenses have been revoked could still be in possession of firearms, according to an analysis of state records by the Chicago Tribune. The failure of the system was underscored in February when a man killed five former colleagues and wounded five police officers in Aurora, Illinois, using a gun he kept despite the revocation of his Firearm Owner’s Identification card in 2014. |

As city leaders, we’re among the first to get reports of a shooting. We hear the stories of the victims, see the fear from those affected and understand the damage such violence causes to our neighborhoods and the families they support.
In a time when state and federal policy has failed to address gun violence that now even permeates into our schools, it is incumbent on local leaders to work to understand the problem and present solutions.
For us in Jackson, much of the violent crime we experience is the result of the behavior of about 150 people. |

In Corpus Christi, Texas, officers were called to an apartment to treat a young woman for non-life-threatening injuries. Earlier in the evening, a man answered the door to his apartment to discover two men and two women asking him to lend them gas money for someone he knew personally. Pepper spraying the man, the four intruders forced their way into his home. In self-defense, the armed citizen drew his firearm and shot several rounds to protect himself, striking one of the women. Afterwards, three of the home invaders fled and were at large. |

Being a responsible gun owner actually starts with a pen rather than a firearm in your hands. That’s part of the message taught at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Concealed Weapons Permit Class that took place Saturday. Sgt. Joe Hersey leads the class in hearing what is and what isn’t allowed by law, how to carry a gun, gun safety, gun holsters, safety tactics, how to handle law enforcement in a traffic stop, where guns are allowed and where they are not, in addition to how to shop for, care and clean a gun. |

A bill that would allow deer hunting on Sundays in Pennsylvania is stalled in the state Senate Appropriations Committee. And although there is little hope of it moving forward this session, those working on it say there is room for compromise. Hunting of all but crows, coyotes and foxes on Sundays has been banned in Pennsylvania for decades. Currently, this prohibition is the only game management decision that the Legislature has put into statute, according to a memo for the bill by its prime sponsor, state Sen. Daniel Laughlin, an Erie County Republican. |
