"'It’s worth examining the Hofstra killing in light of the constant mantra from the National Rifle Association that the best way to deter gun-toting criminals is to arm as many ordinary citizens as possible. But in this case, it wasn’t a civilian who made a mistake. It was a trained cop. And if cops can make mistakes, what can we expect of civilians?' Mike Kelly of nj.com‘s referring to a recent police shooting wherein a beat cop entered a house with a known hostage situation and shot both the perp and the hostage. Kelly’s conclusion. If cops can’t get it done with a gun, civilians shouldn’t even try. As our regular readers no doubt know . . ." ...

"St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner has been very much caught up in the excitement about 3-D printed guns, but there is no denying that at the moment, and for the foreseeable future, printing an entire gun out of plastic is quite likely the least sensible approach for acquiring useful firepower. As a proof of concept, and as a shot across the bow of 'government monopoly on force' advocates like the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence and Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), it's perfect, but if you need to anonymously acquire a 'regime change rifle' right now, don't look for it to come out of a printer." ...

"The gun rights debate in the United States has been smouldering for decades, but has become white hot since Newtown. And while the gun rights advocates are a very large and vocal group, they don’t do the whole 'polished presentation' thing very well. Michael Bloomberg, with his bottomless wallet, does a great job of putting out slick propaganda pieces, but gun rights advocates don’t seem to have the same kind of capabilities. That’s where Kris Koeing comes in, a filmmaker from California who is wrapping up production on a new documentary, ‘Assaulted: Civil Rights Under Fire‘. The film looks at the gun control debate in the United States and will be released in theaters on June 20th. ..." ...

"TTAG reader Dale clocked theatlantic.com‘s Guns for Hunting People Are Different: Legislation Should Reflect That and asked 'So now we’re hunting people?' His email drew our attention to this excerpt: 'In most states, it is illegal to hunt animals or birds with more than six rounds in a rifle or three in a shotgun. Why? Because if you can’t kill within those limits you need remedial marksmanship (of the sort NRA Executive Vice President Wayne R. La Pierre might require to bring reportedly poor marksmanship up to snuff).' Dale begs to differ. 'Um, no, the idea is to give some of the game a chance to get away so that it can replenish. "Gun-control advocates are compulsive liars. They have to be because the truth doesn’t support their agenda. Ongoing claims that 90 percent of Americans ... support 'universal background checks' for gun purchases was a lie when it was first uttered and has become an even bigger lie as time passes. The pronouncement that 40 percent of guns sold each year are sold through 'private sales' with no background checks is a lie. Claims that gun control is needed to 'make our children and our communities safer' is a lie. ..."

"I am fairly new to gun forums but been shooting and buying guns well before Glocks were invented and during the time when the 9mm was considered a caliber best suited for those who pee sitting down. One of the things I notice about gun forums is that they tend to distort reality. By its very nature, gun forums attract those who are into guns much more than most. However, some fail to recognize that gun forum members are a very small part of gun owners and sometimes forum members tend to think things are as they read in their forums. Let’s just look at one example." ...

"Reininger was moving from Maine to Texas, but only made it as far as New Jersey. He got tired and parked behind a building in Readington Township, a quiet, rural area of the state near the Pennsylvania line. Had he held out for another 20 minutes, there wouldn’t be a story about Dustin Reininger because he wouldn’t have had a problem in Pennsylvania, but he was tired so he stopped in New Jersey." ...

"Seattle Times readers are in something of a huff about a story running Saturday about a federal judge’s ruling that Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his Maricopa County deputies have been profiling Latinos 'at the expense of fighting crime.'"

"The gist of comments in reaction to this ruling is that profiling is wrong."

"Too bad that doesn’t apply to gun owners. An interesting observation is floating around cyberspace these days about the liberal hypocrisy of profiling. "Since moving to Texas I have immersed myself in not only trying to learn the intricacies of Texas pronunciation ... but also Texas history. One of the things I have found in looking at Texas lawmen history and the gun culture here is the use of the do it all carbine. In particular, the 30/30-lever action has played a prominent role. ... the 30/30 was sort of the day-to-day go to rifle for lawmen, ranchers, hunters, and everyday citizens for protection…a 'knock around' rifle. The 30/30 has the ability to do good work on every type of game animal in the state, and also has a long history of working well on two legged vermin as well. It is a solid tool for the self sufficient Texan." ...

"A shooting buddy of mine ran across a new product for cleaning firearms and we both decided to order a bottle to see how it works. According to some reviews, using FIREClean gun oil makes cleaning firearms so effortless, the only thing easier would be having someone else do the work. (From one testimonial: Now that I have started using FireClean my gun cleaning time has been cut in half. The stuff works great! I apply a small amount on the dirty parts and then wipe them clean. Burnt on carbon and grease do not stand a chance against FIREClean.) "One increasingly popular avenue of attack on the Constitutionally guaranteed, fundamental human right of the individual to keep and bear arms involves supposed 'gun owners' who nevertheless share in the frenzied enthusiasm for banning so-called 'assault weapons,' 11-round and larger magazines, etc. The thinking, apparently, is that if even gun owners approve of these new infringements on that which shall not be infringed, and only we 'extremists' are opposed, there is no excuse not to go full throttle for every ban and restriction offered up." ...

"GUNMAKERS SLOUGHING off their responsibility for preventing weapons from getting into the hands of maniacs landed like a thud in Newtown, Conn., Tuesday."

"'What we have learned since 12/14 is eye opening,' said Monte Frank of the Newtown Action Alliance, referring to the December date of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School."

"'The gun industry profits immensely from the proliferation of illegal guns, and they have lobbied hard to keep the spigot on.'" ...
-------

KABA Note: According to the FBI's UCR, in 2011 there were about 266,000 murders, assaults and robberies committed with firearms. Let's assume that 4 out of 5 criminals already had access to a gun and didn't need to buy a new one. This means that the Eee-vil Gun Companies sold about about 53,200 guns to criminals in 2011. According to the NSSF and ATF's figures, in 2011 Americans bought about 6,400,000 guns. So the "immense" profits that gun companies garner from "the proliferation of illegal guns" amounts to less than 1% of their sales.

"Much of the testimony was marked confidential, and transcripts were packed away in archives at law firms and courthouses around the country. "In Utah, as elsewhere in the Soyuz, 'battering' a police officer is considered an especially grievous crime. Until earlier this year, this offense was treated as a Class A misdemeanor. Under SB 131, a measure enacted earlier this year by the state legislature, it is now a class C felony."

"Any incidental contact between a Mundane and the sanctified personage of a police officer – including the act of breathing on an officer – can be prosecuted as 'battery.' This would apply to cases in which a woman is desperately trying to prevent an officer from violating her sexually: A victim who puts up resistance in such circumstances can expect to be violently subdued, arrested, and charged with 'assaulting an officer.'" ...
