The Real Dangers of So Called ‘Tough On Crime Bills’

Recently, GOA has been asked about bills such as H.R. 2837 that purport to “get tough on crime” by authorizing extended terms of imprisonment for offenses that involve firearms; irrespective of whether or not the offense was violent or possessory in nature. Gun Owners of America (GOA) has opposed bills of this sort for decades because they violate the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms...

...Gun owners should instead demand that unconstitutional laws be erased from the statute books. Gun Owners of America will continue to be a leader and push for repeal of unconstitutional laws and the defeat of bills which treat firearms, rather than predatory criminals as the problem.

The Run the Jewels rapper encouraged African-Americans and people of color to “to take seriously their Second Amendment rights” after the murder of Georgia jogger Ahmaud Arbery.

Louisiana is one of a few states which ban guns in churches but allow church leaders to allow guns on a case by case basis. According to Concealed Carry.com, as of 2018, there were ten states and the District of Columbia with this policy of religious discrimination against churches that approve of an armed population.

The laws in states that ban guns in church are a way to demonize guns. They fairly scream: Guns Bad! Good People Don't Have Guns!

As state lawmakers get back to work this week, several measures that would loosen gun restrictions are making their way through the legislature. These include allowing concealed carry on public college campuses with a permit, and no longer requiring a permit to carry a gun in the rest of the state.

It seems that in most cases, gun legislation and controversy go hand-in-hand, and these proposed measures are no different.

The nation’s first anti-red flag gun law is on the books in Oklahoma to strengthen and protect citizens’ Second Amendment rights. Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, authored the measure, which was signed into law by the governor Senate Bill 1081, also known as the Anti-Red Flag Act, prohibits the state or any city, county or political subdivision from enacting red flag laws. It also prohibits the acceptance of any grants or funding to enact red flag laws.

If it’s this difficult for black people to just be, imagine the barriers that prevent us from actually defending ourselves.

This raises some difficult but important questions:

Can black Americans exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms? Can they stand their ground? Can they claim self-defense in shooting someone who threatens them with physical harm? Does the castle doctrine, which grants a person the right to use deadly force to protect their home from an intruder, apply to them?

After a long delay thanks to the COVID-19 virus, the Democrat-controlled Colorado legislature is back at work.

In an unusual Saturday session the House State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee will act on two gun-related bills in the Old State Library, room 271 in the Capitol upon adjournment of the House floor session.

House Bill 20-1355 makes it a crime to not store a firearm in such a way that juveniles cannot access or use the firearm without permission of the parent or guardian. It also makes it a crime to store a firearm in a manner that allows a person ineligible to possess a firearm under state or federal law to do so.

The board brought forward a resolution that would designate Polk County as a second amendment sanctuary county, and passed that resolution by a 10-5 vote with Supervisors Prichard, Edgell, Middleton, Luke and Duncanson dissenting. The board discussed the resolution at length before the vote, and Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak also spoke to the board in favor of the resolution.

“Over the last couple of years there has been an all out attack on law abiding citizens gun rights in this nation,” he said. “For me as a sheriff it’s and honor to take people’s constitutional rights and be a guardian of them.”

Gun sales have been up during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, a proposed bill introduced by Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson is aiming to strengthen measures to prevent gun violence.

H.R. 5717, known as the Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act of 2020, is suggesting to tax ammunition by 50 percent. Community members feel like there are better ways to enforce gun safety.

“There is no reason to impose a syntax [sic] on a purchase of ammunition or firearms," said John Allen Annillo "What society must do and should do is go back to teaching civic responsibility.”

Why? According to the bill, the reason is “to reduce the stigma associated with firearm ownership and safe storage.” Furthermore, any course developed should be “culturally appropriate” while at the same time addressing “the concerns of firearm owners.” Hmm… now what group would jump to mind when you think of gun ownership groups? Can anyone say, “National Rifle Association?” How about the “National Shooting Sports Foundation?”

Ventura County's latest public health order amid the coronavirus pandemic reopened gun stores, but Second Amendment advocates are seeking a court ruling stating the closure was wrong in the first place.

"Because if the courts rule that the closing of the gun stores was unconstitutional, then we'll have a ruling that will be citable," said Ronda Baldwin-Kennedy, an attorney for a Camarillo man who alleges the county violated his rights.

Such a ruling would stand as precedent that the practice is not allowed under the law. Experts predict a possible second wave of COVID-19 cases could hit, causing some of the county and state stay-at-home orders to be issued again.

On June 3rd, the Iowa Legislature is scheduled to reconvene. Before the COVID-19 crisis forced the suspension of the 2020 legislative session, the House passed important legislation to protect shooting ranges from being shut down by unreasonable local ordinances and ensure that Second Amendment rights remain protected across the state. This bill, House File 2502, is still awaiting action on the Senate floor.

Consisting of a 12X12-inch lint-free cloth, the Tuf-Cloth by Sentry Products Group replaces traditional harsh solvents, patches and wet, tacky oils with a dry, oil-free, alternative lubricant that bonds to a gun’s surface for better overall function and performance. It works by applying a micro-bonded, crystal shield that safeguards guns from friction, rust moisture and wear (including extreme conditions and environments) without attracting dust, dirt and debris. Best of all, it maintains its viscosity across a wide range of temperatures, meaning cold won’t cause it to thicken, and it won’t thin out in extreme heat.

Gun control groups fearmongering about lawful firearm owners better be careful. New Mexico Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham just destroyed their narrative by saying the quiet parts out loud.

Gov. Grisham spoke to Moms Demand Action’s Shannon Watts for Everytown for Gun Safety’s Veepstakes with candidates auditioning to be second fiddle to 2020 presumptive Democratic nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden. Watts, who has repeatedly stated protests are “AstroTurfed” and fake, regurgitated the tired narrative that pro-Second Amendment rallies taking place across the country involved “armed protestors that we know are fueled by fearmongering and extremism.”

You must understand, therefore, that there are two ways of fighting: by law or by force. The first way is natural to men, and the second to beasts. But as the first way often proves inadequate one must have recourse to the second. — Niccolo Machiavelli in "The Prince."
